Just ranting about strollers

As one who had a stroller filled with DS on our recent WDW trip, I have to say what about the scooter crowd? As we were trying to leave MK one evening after the light parade, part of a huge crowd heading towards the exit, an older woman riding one of those scooters barrelled up behind us and yelled "get out of my way" and almost ran us over. A bit irritated by this, DH turned around to her and said "You know, everyone is heading to the same place. There's no way you're going to get there quickly in this crowd." She actually seemed cowed that someone talked back to her and called her on her rudeness. She must have been getting through the crowd with the beep, yell, and run over anyone in her way tactic prior to coming up behind us!

how rude. I can't stand people like this! :sad2:

My complaint about stroller wielding maniacs is not about the adults that are pushing the strollers. If the adults hit you they will almost always apologize and all is good. I have no problem with that. The problem is when the person that is supposed to riding 'in' the stroller is instead the one 'driving' the stroller. Almost every single time I am rammed hard by a stroller it is a child pushing said stroller. There needs to be an age limit to driving strollers; just like driving a car.

As a stroller wielding park-goer, I do my very best to avoid people, when even rushing. And I am proud to say that I have yet to run over a single toe or ankle. I just have one small tip for you: walk in a straight line! Don't make sharp turns or stop dead in your tracks and be upset when you get hit.

O.K. in defense of the strollers...I have twins and when they were little obviousely we used a double stroller. It can be MURDER trying to guide a stroller through those crowds! people are running to catch up with others, to get on rides or just hurrying to get through the crowd....they don't always look at where they are going and who they are running over! :rolleyes1
ON THE OTHER HAND...I HATE getting run over by strollers! parents aren't always looking at where they are going or they are busy talking to others too!
I have been tripped and thumped into many times and sometimes you just loose your cool!
So, I guess there is a no win situation here! busy place, lots of crowds...everyone just needs to watch where they are going and do their best to be courtiouse to others :thumbsup2

Well...if we're venting here...let's talk about the folks who just stop suddenly in the middle of forward moving crowd. You know the ones i mean, everyone is moving along nicely toward the exit pushing their strollers, driving their ECV's, walking with family...the crowd is moving slowly, but moving...and the motion is carrying everyone along. Then "bam", somone stops abruptly and doesn't bother stepping aside out of the flow of traffic...they just stand there. Then they get offended when others bump into them or try to go around them.

I typically don't have a problem with them running into me because usually it's my fault for either stopping suddenly or changing my path in direction. :teeth: The only thing I have a problem with is like you said, the use of strollers to push to the front of the line and what not. :furious:

:wave2: We must have been in WDW at the exact same time as we had a lady in a scooter saying the exact same thing "move outta my way" and beeping her way through the exiting crowd at Fantasmic. Of course, I said something to her and refused to move. :stir:

Someone posted on another thread about their brother that kept getting hit by a man in scooter numerous times. He was starting to get bloody. He took the key out of the scooter and did not give it back. I think he may even have thrown it....... I would have taken the key and given it to the first CM I saw and showed them the blood. Doubt that guy would learn his lesson though :rotfl2:

 Just wondering wouldn't a wagon cause less harm I mean the parent pulling it would first have to trample the person before the wagon hit and careless walkers could topple in it and get a free ride But then if you let go just think how many could be mowed down with a run away wagon. Guess that's why no wagons!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

I understand very much so I am hit is the legs and angles all the time. But my real pev is the double wide stollers these are the worst ever. I can't tell you how many times I have been wacked in my hip by these monster. They should be banned from the parks. The walkways are not wide enough for these. Much less in the stores. If they want 2 seaters they should be the ones with seat in back and front not side by side. I always get a sorry from the parents but its already too late I'm already hurtin and in pain and black & blue.

I have been to WDW and every time I go it seems that somebody has to bump me with a stroller. To get to the front of the lines at rides and "apologize" for bumping you, or hit you and nearly trip you to get the last souvenier you wanted and I just thought of this and it started getting me thinking about all the things people do to abuse stollers that urk me. Things like putting your bags into them and the kids are running around hitting people and the parents have no control because they dont feel like carring their kids. I am sorry if you are offended by my ranting but I felt like I needed to rant and if you do to go ahead thats what this thread is for.

I didn't read the whole thread..too lazy ;-) But I had to comment. Is there really a "last souvenier" at Disney?? Anyone ever see a souvenier that was one of a kind and not available in 10 stores in lots of 50??

Double-wide strollers banned from the parks? Heck, Disney rents them out to the public right and left! Not much chance of that happening!

Just had to respond to this thread because it is my DS who started it. :)
We are going to WDW in Nov with our new baby and DS, now 15. The other day we began discussing the fact that we have moved back to the stroller group after all these years and what the rules we were going to follow with the stroller. All this discussing brought back the bad moments we have experienced with strollers in the past thus prompting DS to start this thread.

For me I have no issues with the accidental bumps and understand when the are not always followed by an apology, especially if the bump is not that hard. And it is true that there are just as many people who cut strollers off as there are people who bump. My only real complaint is those who let young childeren who can barely see over the stroller itself to push them. There is nothing worse for me then walking through MK and seeing a preschooler zigzagging and running toward me while weilding a large stroller while the parent is either ignoring the behavior or simple saying stop but not stopping the child themselves. Other then those people strollers don't bother me, it is part of WDW.

As for scooters and wheelchairs all I have to say is dont' use one if you don't need one. I will never look at a person and assume one way or another if they really need them. However, I have had several times where I have seen a family or a group of teens rent either a wheelchair or a scooter and rotate people sitting in them throughout the day in an attempt to avoid lines. As a person with two family members that require these devices I get really irked when people abuse the use of wheelchairs and scooters.

That was my rant. :thumbsup2

Well, where to begin. First of all I have six small children. I use two cheep strollers with little clips to clip them. My husband pushes a set and I push a set and two others walk. These strollers are the best for us. They are side by side. My husband can not always walk in front of me since he is in charge of a stroller. Sometimes my six year old pushes the stroller if Dad is checking the map(while still walking) or tending to the wee one. He does a great job, sees well, and I would not allow him to go crazy with the strollers. With all that said, I do not try to hit people. I have hit poeple by accident in the past due to the people who just stop in front of me. This happens a lot of the time. My children have also been victims of the "hit and run" of adults trying to get to the middle seat in the middle of the room in the 3-D show. Just plow them right over. I do not believe this is on purpose. They just are so focused on the mission they so not even see them. I do feel that the stoller saves their life. At the end of a fireworks show, they would become part of the pavement if not for the stroller making them more visable. With all that said, the last time my husband and I were there without the kidos, I was hit many of times by stollers, wheelchairs and others kidos. I even heard noise in the resturants. It did not bother me because I know how it is. Sometimes I think having my situation makes me much more tollerent of others. And for the one who typed she will not take the stroller into the Osbourne lights at MGM when she has kids.....Be carefull what you say cause one day you may eat your words, I know I did. The human mind is a powerful thing. It amazes me how a good time becomes bad just because that little mind starts thinking negitive thoughts.

So after this long post, I will continue to drive with respect to others and if others see us struggling to get to the next attraction with our double double strollers please respect us! LOL :sunny:

I have an idea- kids should just be outlawed at Disney- that way there would be no strollers to worry about and all the restaurants would be quiet and all the adults wouldn't need to wait behind all those pesky kids to get autographs from other adults in large fuzzy hot costumes. Let's face it Disney is really for adults and those kids just get in the way! ;)

Way too funny!!! I was thinking the same thing. Why would anyone go to Disney and not expect to be inconvienced by kids or strollers. :rotfl2:

She hit him enough to draw blood?? That's horrible! I like his quick thinking in taking the keys ;) I wish I could've thought of that.

These "I hate the strollers" threads pop up every once in awhile. It's always the same comments. This is my take on it:

Most people are courteous when pushing a stroller. I know I always try to go at a slower pace so I can be able to stop on a dime when someone steps right in front of me. It's crazy, but everyone thinks they have the right of way. :confused3 Unless WDW puts lines down on the pavement, stop signs at the walking intersections, and teaches people to walk on the right side of the road, this will always be an issue.

I can remember loudly complaining to my husband about strollers blocking the aisles in the gift shops the first time we went to WDW. I think I said this in front of a stroller mom who just happened to bear the brunt of my frustration with dodging the things all week. Fast forward six years............yes, we're pushing the double-wide while holding hands with kid #3 and trying not to separate families or nip anyone's heels. Now that we're stroller-less again, I find myself much more sympathetic to those who need them.

Hmmm. You just made me realize that this is one of my biggest pet peeves in life. The world would be a better place if everyone followed this bit of advice.
