Just posted - Cruises Cancelled

What I mean is would I need to repay a new flight for my next cruise

Or would disney or insurance company help or refund the flight that was pointless
No I doubt that the flight would be refunded. As you would have been able to take the flight. But, cancelling/rebooking the return trip would probably be covered.

Yes, you'd have to repay a new flight for the next cruise.

Last year, there was Matthew, which caused at least one cruise cancel.

They've cancelled 3 for Irma, and if the next ones go (Jose isn't far behind), I predict some port shuffling at best, more cancels possibly. Tortola/Road Town got hammered, St. Thomas didn't do any better, and Puerto Rico is in a pickle.

I just got off the line with DCL. No info yet on future sailings.

I know its out of anyones control, but I am real anxious about the 09/25 sailing on the Dream. Like many folks, I have to plan for my family (due to work) a year in advance, sometimes longer.

Any storm that would be an issue in 3 weeks hasn't even begun to form yet. There is no way anybody could tell you anything about the possible weather on a sailing on the 25th.

I have family cruising on the 15th , and we are sailing on the 18th. I am very nervous.

It is impossible to know that far away in advance. The only thing you can do right now is getting prepared (make sure you have insurance, know exactly what to do and where to call if it gets postponed or cancelled) and trying to find a Plan B/satisfying replacement. The more you are prepared, the less stressed out you will be.

Great advice.

Yup. Got insurance for sure.
My employer said that considering the circumstances it should not be a problem moving my time off.

Plan B would either be a trip to WDW or a Christmas cruise. I would not gripe for either option.

I just saw some video from the Virgin Islands and it hurt my heart. Scared for those poor folks down there.

Very true but the destruction this storm is causing looks to be devastating to several popular cruise ports and may very well impact future cruises. It has certainly impacted those that live on these islands and will for some time to come. :(

It is possible, and even likely, that the results of Irma (or Jose or Katia) will affect Disney cruise ports for weeks or even months to come. However, once the storm passes through central Florida, it is unlikely that it will keep a future Disney cruise from sailing at all. That would happen only if Port Canaveral or the ship itself suffers damage that takes more than a week to repair. If Nassau, Castaway Cay, or other ports are damaged, ships won't stop there, but the ships will still sail somewhere (even if just at sea) if at all possible.

Another storm could form in two weeks that would close the port again, but as noted, any storm that would cancel a cruise on 9/25 hasn't formed yet. The storms that have already formed will be out of the area by then. So, no one can say for sure whether a 9/25 (or even 9/18) cruise will be changed or cancelled.

Yes, of course. How disappointing a change or loss of ports is to a person is completely dependent on why the person is booking the cruise in the first place. For me, the ship is a way to get from point A to point B and I base my choices on the ports 95% of the time, unless it is part of a vacation for extended family. So for me a change in ports is pretty disappointing, I try to never book the same itinerary twice and always visit at least one new place.

In any case the pictures out of St. Maarten are hard to look at and I am sure there will be more sad stories to come.

I agree with Pens Fan. The wording says "Guests are invited to book a future cruise at a 25 percent discount by calling us at 1-855-347-2784 or 407-566-7054 from September 18, 2017, through October 18, 2017."

"by calling us from September 18,2017, through October 18, 2017".

Not "Guests are invited to book a future cruise from September 18, 2017 through October 18, 2017"

I'd suggest you call and get the true story. Unless you're OK with the cruise you've got.

Your reply prompted me to check my post, and I definitely missed out on including that the cruise discount would be applicable if guests called between those dates for future; I was aware of the stipulations. I'm completely satisfied with the cruise I have as I saved more money with the Florida resident discount than I would have waiting for 25% off, and the CM I worked with confirmed it. I believe this to be especially reinforced due to Disney's price hikes overnight to compensate for the upcoming discount bookings.

We sailed right after a Hurricane went thru Bahamas and it was not as strong as this one. No CastawayCay and we could not get off at Nassau Day but came back there on CC Day. It was a short 3 night. Disappointed a little but still fun!

Good luck to cruisers in next couple of week. We are sailing out of NYC to Canada 10/2. Fingers crossed.

Port Canaveral right now is projected to get a direct hit. Even if the port doesn't sustain damage itself, the strong currents and storm surge could change the topography of the channel under the water.............then it would be possible that ships couldn't dock there until they were able to dredge out all of the shallow areas.

then why haven't they canceled the 9/15 cruise on the Dream?

They won't cancel yet, until the hurricane goes through and they know the extent of the damages. We were at WDW last year for Hurricane Matthew and were scheduled to sail on the Fantasy that weekend. They moved the start of our cruise from Saturday to Sunday before the hurricane hit. When I went to bed that Thursday night, the hurricane was heading straight for the port. It turned enough at the last minute that the port did not suffer major damage and the port re-opened Saturday afternoon. Once the hurricane goes through, they will assess and update on next weekends sailings.
