Just posted - Cruises Cancelled

I suggest, for those who don't live in Florida and must rebook a cancelled cruise, perhaps Alaska with the Wonder or Europe with the Magic are workable options. If the two bigger ships are headed far from Florida I wish a special cruise could have been arranged for folks, like us, who love "sea days." Trouble is, two days out we would probably be handed a paint brush or wrench.

The Dream left port within the last hour. The last tracking that I saw had the Fantasy south of Vero Beach. That was earlier this morning.
A Carnival ship is also at PC due to storm diversion. Don't know if they disembarked their passengers and are headed back out to sea.
Some of the other ships in Miami show destinations such as Cozumel. That might be 'old news'. I am sorry for those of you whose plans have been cancelled. But better before you left than after you arrived in Florida.
Stay safe everyone.

UPDATE: The Fantasy is headed up the ship channel into PC. As is Majesty of the Seas.
The marine traffic tracking has the Dream headed to Cozumel. As per marine tracking lots of other ships are also headed in that direction. Looks like there will be a lot of 'empty' cruise ships circling the western Caribbean over the next week. The 2 PTztv webcams in St. Martin are offline with the Maho Beach cam beeing destroyed. (I am way too addicted to their webcams.)
Stay safe everyone.

Hi All - need your help.

After my travel agent told me yesterday that my full cruise would be refunded including insurance, today she tells me can't refund insurance.

I am losing money on insurance for 7 people. I have it in writing where she told me entire amount will be refunded but are back tracking now.

What can I do? I see Allianz gives an option to change the trip date online. I don't know what that will be - I was thinking of putting a future weekend in 2018. Anyone experience something like this before and provide suggestions. I even am tempted to dispute with credit card after they told me in email full amount will be refunded.

Thanks

They won't cancel yet, until the hurricane goes through and they know the extent of the damages. We were at WDW last year for Hurricane Matthew and were scheduled to sail on the Fantasy that weekend. They moved the start of our cruise from Saturday to Sunday before the hurricane hit. When I went to bed that Thursday night, the hurricane was heading straight for the port. It turned enough at the last minute that the port did not suffer major damage and the port re-opened Saturday afternoon. Once the hurricane goes through, they will assess and update on next weekends sailings.

it seems to me that if they can't go to Castaway Cay or Nassau then they should cancel the cruise. They canceled the 8 and 11th so i was expecting them to cancel mine (15th). I would like to know because i don't want to go to WDW for only a few days if i can't go on the cruise.

I would probably reschedule for Merrytime Cruise.

Also, i paid with Disney Vacation Account for all of our vacation and i don't know how that will work with refunds.

was it one that Disney canceled? maybe check their policy? Good Luck.

The agreement you sign specifically states the itinerary is subject to change, if they can take the ship anywhere in those 3 days then they will. The only reason they cancelled the previous ones is because they are such short cruises and DCL knew they needed to get the ships out of that area. They have no idea what will happen at PC nor what things will look like at Nassau or Castaway and they won't make any decisions until they have time to assess the situation at all of those areas as well as any other options for porting. You will be lucky to get any official information from DCL before Tuesday.

Please call Allianz and explain the situation. They will most likely credit the insurance premium for your future cruise.

Although it was with another insurance company, that is what happened on my cancelled cruise.

I personally have never heard of trip insurance being refunded (have heard of it being transferred to new trip in some situations)- the whole point of insurance is to make you financial whole if you can't go on your vacation and don't receive a refund and in this case you received a cruise refund. Our insurance requires that you first seek a refund on anything that can be cancelled and they only pay the difference. Insurance is typically a lost cost and only serves for peace of mind (since the majority of the time you go on the trip and never need to make a claim-they don't refund you when you don't make a claim).

It seems like your agent misspoke or was confused about the refund, but any refund would come from your insurance company so you should review your contract with them.

Edit to add- I really do have sympathy for you and the situation really stinks. I realized rereading that by trying to explain my tone may have come across wrong.

More than one friend onboard was told that DCL have an estimated loss of $15 million due to the shortening and cancellations from this hurricane.
If the ships can get in and out of PC and load and unload they won't cancel any more cruises.
Many cruises happen with one or more port missed due to many reasons. You might get a little incentive onboard if ports are missed, especially if they know beforehand, but I highly doubt they would cancel a cruise because they know they won't be stopping at a pre-planned port.

why did you post this? just asking because it was completely irrelevant since I am aware of the contract DCL emailed me. i will keep following because hopefully someone will post about the next cruise on the Dream 9/15 and not just post to aggravate people.

They posted it because you said if they can't go to the ports on the itinerary they should cancel the cruise. So it was VERY relevant to your previous post.

then why haven't they canceled the 9/15 cruise on the Dream?

Due to Irma? The 15th is much too far out for them to make a decision at this point, they'll need to assess the damages and see what options might be available if necessary. As long as they can safely get the ships in and out of Port Canaveral, you may have a "cruise to nowhere" but I doubt it would be canceled completely. Cruise ships have been known to dock in Nassau within days of a hurricane; there's no requirement that all excursions be available or even all shops and island services be fully functioning as long as the port is open. The only reason I can see 9/15 getting canceled is if Jose follows the same track, but it's much too soon to know that. I'd be highly surprised if DCL makes any determination about next weekend's cruises until maybe Tuesday.

Enjoy your cruise -- hopefully next weekend!

thanks ! first cruise ever and I have been planning a long time. i will be disappointed if they cancel, but i wish they would cancel soon since i am going to WDW Tuesday and would like to cancel that also if they cancel cruise. I am not going to cancel because i want a full refund and the discount if they offer it. I know this is awful of me. My heart goes out to everyone who is experiencing this disaster and last week's.

I'm in the same boat! (pun intended). We are set to sail on the 15th. Plan to be at WDW the 13th and 14th. If they cancel the cruise we will spend 5 days at the Mouse House instead of 2. We have non-refundable first class air that we intend to use even if it gets us killed in hurricane! Just kidding. My hope is Irma moves on thru and Jose take a turn north and all will be well. Totally agree if we can't do CC they should cancel the cruise. I don't care about Nassau but I love CC.

There are always some cruises where they cannot make Castaway for various reasons. It is sad, but it is NOT guaranteed to stop there. Much better to be safe than sorry.

I have a eastern cruise booked for sept 2018

Mybe it would make sense to change the dates on that, seems crazy to go in sept and we are traveling from UK too
We were on the Fantasy last week, British Tortola, St Thomas and CC, and we had beautiful weather. You just do not know!!
