Just ordered Direct TV. Hope I don't regret it

Had it for 10 years. LOOOVVVVVEEEE it! We dont lose reception for more than an hour. Ever during blizzards, ice storms, etc!

Hopefully I won't have that problem here. If so, I have more to worry about then my tv going out. :rotfl::rotfl:

Other than one big storm our DirectTv has never lost reception or had bad reception.

The cable at my work on the other hand has bad reception every single time it even thinks about storming. I have to laugh ever time I see the Cable One commercial trying t make it seem like satellite goes out more than them.

LOVE our DTV here too...

my Birthday present to my husband each year is the Football package... Can't be beat!

I can't get NFL ticket or even the NFL network through my current cable company.
We don't have Verizon FIOS as of yet. I can get their internet and phone but the cable part has to be Direct TV.

I hope I didn't make a mistake. :scared:

They have a special going now to get NFL Sunday ticket. I hope you took advantage of that.

I'm a 4+ year DirecTV subscriber and love it. They called me a couple of weeks ago and offered a bump up to Premium level PLUS NFL Sunday Ticket for $2 more a month for 5 months. No contract extension and no penalty for dropping back to my previous level after the 5 months. No brainer. I took it!

I dumped cable long ago when I decided to bring a dish, receiver and TV to my football tailgates. Did Dish Network for a year or two, and then moved to DirecTV. Have never looked back!

Enjoy!

My parents also has Primestar before it was bought by DirecTV. I was a freshman in high school when the buy out happend and we never had problems with DTV other than the occasional lost signal during bad storms. When I moved to college I was living with a cousin who already had DirecTV for the football package and I'm a customer now and I have never had any major problems. I did a customer service problem one time. I also have Sunday Ticket which I love because I'm an out of market 49er fan.

The only thing I don't like about my DirectTV is my DVR is automatically filled with PPV movies so that the capacity is cut in half. Sometimes there is nothing automatically recorded, then one day half of the stuff we've specifically recorded is wiped out because of all the PPV.

I don't get any PPV movies automatically downloaded to my DVR without me requesting it. Sounds like you need to change a setting somewhere.

That's why I got it, for the Sunday ticket. Moved down to Florida from NH and I have to watch my beloved Pats. :rotfl: I am a diehard football fan!

Ours use to do that. I can't remember how we did it but somehow we turned off the "record suggestions" part. Look through your settings and see if anything pops up.

Oh yeah... that was a TiVo feature, so if you have an older DirecTiVo, that could be the issue. I haven't seen that setting in the DirecTV DVR. Haven't gone looking for it either. I rarely liked the things TiVo recorded for me, so I turned that off long ago.

Speaking of DirecTiVo, I have heard rumors that they are coming back, in HD!! :cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: Although, now I'm used the DVR interface. So I guess not that big a deal any more.

Same here. We did have a day with no satelite last year, but that was because of a blizzard. We continued to have spotty reception for a few days until some of the snow melted.

Other than a few bad-weather days, we are very pleased. I tried cable for less than a year but quickly switched back.

I did once have an issue with snow sticking to the dish and screwing with the signal. I had to go out and clear the snow off. Thankfully, that doesn't happen too often down here in the south. But storms rarely effect the signal for more than a few minutes, if at all.

I usually don't care enough to spend the money for NFL Sunday Ticket. DW is a Bears fan and doesn't like that we don't see many Bears games down here. So when the offer came for only $2 a month, I jumped at it. But without that kind of offer, I wouldn't get NFL Sunday Ticket.

DTV has added some interesting features in the last couple of years.
  • You can now record mutliple shows on one DVR even if you have just one cable running to it.
  • You can watch your recorded shows on your computer.
  • You can program your DVR from your computer or with an iPhone app.
  • They have a few 3D channels. Watching the Boise State vs VT game in 3D was awesome.
  • You can watch programs recorded on one DVR from a different receiver.

Okay how about this then :rotfl: last time we had a hurricane come thru (2004 Ivan) all of our town lost cable for over a week... once we got power back on (about 12 hrs later) we just saw in our living room watching TV while everyone else was still with out... booo cable.. plus its so much more money and they get so much fewer channels.. I wish my brother would switch.. when I go over there I miss the channels I get and he doesn't... and he pays at least 20$ a month more.... :confused3

How?! I didn't even know that was an option. Please, details!!

Some, if not most, of those things listed require a different setup or equipment.

I am curious about watching recorded shows on the PC....how does one do that?

Ooh, can you explain how to do this?

We're full-time RVers, and DirecTV has been a godsend. We have HD and DVR and a portable dish. We decided against the roof mount, because we like being able to park in wooded campsites. It took us a bit to get the hang of setting it up, but now it rarely takes more than a few minutes to get a strong HD signal. Love sitting in the middle of the woods watching HD programming while our neighbors curse at their plain old TV antennas :rotfl: And like others have mentioned, we very rarely lose the signal for more than a few minutes, even during strong storms.

We just had DirecTV installed yesterday, after being DISH network customers for 11 years. The picture quality is amazing, and we've actually been able to watch our TV. The DISH satellite signal would come and go depending on the time of day. It is a huge improvement!

It should be noted that the satellites used by the various satellite service providers are not in the same spot in the sky, so where you are located, and more specifically the obstructions and interference you'll encounter accessing the specific satellite(s) of the service you choose, may substantially impact the quality of service you receive. Indeed, your neighbor could have a significantly different quality experience from you.
