Ok, so this turned out long... sorry!!!
So I was in Florida last week for some other non-Disney related travels, but we did hit up Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom on our last day in Orlando, which obviously meant some Disney food!
Our party of four had scored last-minute dinner reservations at Be Our Guest on Tuesday afternoon for Sunday night, so we were excited, to say the least. Our original plan was to just do BOG for lunch mid-afternoon, but that was no longer needed.
We spent the first hour and a half or so of our day in Hollywood Studios, and the only food I ate there was a granola bar and a bottle of water from the cart at the park gates. It was your standard Nature's Valley chocolate chip granola bar and Dasani water and it was a perfect mid-morning snack, as the cup of applesauce I had for breakfast had worn off shortly before!
After a few rides (and Rock n' Rollercoaster being down
) we hopped over to Magic Kingdom to meet up with a few other friends. After riding a few rides (Splash - where we all got soaked - and I mean SOAKED - I am SO glad I wore a bathing suit under my clothes and had on my quick-drying gym clothes!, Thunder and Pirates) we decided it was time for lunch and we went into Pecos Bill's - the first place we found. Now, out of all my past trips and day trips to Disney, I have never been to Pecos Bill's. It was pretty good for counter service.
My mother and I split a cheeseburger, fries and a Diet Coke. The burger wasn't greasy and neither were the fries, which was awesome. (I don't eat fries too often because I don't like fried foods in general.) Oh and the toppings bar looked awesome, but it was so crowded that I only managed to get ketchup!
In our group there was one other cheeseburger and three salads and everyone liked their food, so this was successful.
Later in the day we headed over to Be Our Guest for dinner. I am a HUGE Beauty and the Beast fan - it was the first movie I saw in theaters when I was 2, I saw it on Broadway when I was 8, I worked on the New England regional theater premiere of the show when I was 15 and it was the last show I performed in when I was in high school. So anyway, we checked in a bit early and were seated on time and our table was in the main ballroom. Our server, Will, was fantastic - very funny! I just loved the details in the restaurant - and the snow in the windows! We peeked into the West Wing and into the Study when we met the Beast himself after dinner. He's very tall...
Anyways, we sat down, ordered our drinks (I had water, there were a few iced teas and a lemonade - pretty standard) and looked over the menu. When it came time to order, everyone else had ordered the chicken. I was last to order and our waiter joked, "Ok, peer pressure... let me guess!!!! Chicken!!!" Just to be different, I ordered the pork chop
I did get to sample the chicken, though! It was very good, but it came with asparagus, which I don't care for, and the pork chop came with green beans, which I do like. The pork chop was perfectly grilled on the bone (and it was huge) and the red wine au jus was delicious. The side of green beans was VERY generous and they were nicely steamed, but since there were so many I only ate about half of them.
And then there was the macaroni and cheese. Oh. My. Word. I am a HUGE mac and cheese fan. I love it, and I used to eat it all the time. I have recently developed an intolerance to milk fat, so my macaroni and cheese consumption has been reduced immensely, (that, and I have also lost 63 pounds and counting...) but at that moment, I didn't care and I ate the entire serving of mac and cheese. It was fantastic and creamy and I didn't get sick, so it must not have been cooked with whole milk.
We didn't order dessert (we were going to stop for treats on the way out), but we did get the Grey Stuff!
We heard you could only get it for special events, and one member of our party is heading off to Atlantic City in a week and a half to compete for Miss America, so when we said we had Miss Massachusetts at the table we got our Grey Stuff! It was a tiny little portion, but it was very good - I think it was cookies and cream flavored. But we all really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere at BOG and wouldn't hesitate to go back!
We stopped at the bakery and the confectionery store on the way out and between the four of us, we picked up a fairly large assortment of snacks for that night - chocolate covered almonds, toffee, a coffee cake, a cupcake and one very large, very delicious peanut butter cup - and brought them back to our condo to eat before bed.
