Just look up and reach to the sky, we all have the courage to fly! (comments welcome)

Another month with no updates, but there was really nothing to update anyways, since there hasn't really been anything noteworthy.

I'm a week from my half, and had probably my worst run yet yesterday. I set myself up to fail by not eating lunch. Then, as soon as my warmup was done and I started the real workout, my head went to a bad place and I just kept telling myself I couldn't do it. Lots of negative self talk, which is not usual. I could not shake it off, and skipped the last interval of the run. Now I'm questioning if can I even help pace my sister for this half on Sunday (logically I know I can, but emotionally? That's a whole different story).
A race is different than training. (well, yes, of course) There's something about being out on the course, with other runners around you--the pace you are "supposed to" run just seems to come. And I say this as someone who is not into "WooHoo you are so great, you can do this" kind of pumping up. I have just found that sometimes training feels like "no", but on race day it turns into "yes"--no explanation.

Trust the training you've done and good luck.

After unnecessarily worrying that I wouldn't be able to pace my sister for her first half, I helped her finish in 2:02:16! She went in set on finishing in under 2hr, but I convinced her to start off with the 2:10 pacers. We very quickly left them behind, but I kept an eye on my watch and got her to stay around a 9:30 pace until the halfway point, where we got a bit faster. I tried to push her harder once we were close to the finish, but she had nothing else. Overall, a really great first half for her with perfect running weather.

My son also ran the kids 2.4km race. He beat his usual running times by a long shot. We used a 75/30 run/walk/run interval, but ended up doing 75 seconds of hard running, 15 sec walk, 15 sec jog. He averaged a 8:21 running interval pace, with an overall pace of 9:02. He was disappointed about not placing in his age group, but I reminded him he was going against 10 year olds, and he's 7. Now he's really excited about the possibility of not starting in the last corral for MW.
