Just left my Labbie girl at the animal hospital...

Just found your thread and I'm glad your furbaby is home and resting. Lots of pixie dust coming your way for surgery next week. I know everything will turn out as so many people are wishing only the best for you.::yes::

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} I sure hope your doggie will be feeling better real soon.

We've been using Dr. Shaffer at the Flower Mound Veterinary Hospital just off 1171 for many years- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that man!!! He's wonderful and very affectionate with the animals, and very patient and understanding with their humans... He works very closely with the Flower Mound Humane Society, and takes care of the animals they have waiting for adoption.

But this crisis happened when he wasn't available, and his answering service sent us to Dr. Catoor at South Flower Mound Animal Hospital, by Anamia's on 2499. He was also wonderful, with several followup calls and a very gentle and caring way of explaining what he saw.

Sambuca and her littermate Bailey (such a sweetie, we lost her two years ago) were named for a sillier reason. We adopted them on the way home from happy hour. :o

Not planning to add to our little household of two at the time, we were with a friend who needed to pick up some stuff for her mutts, and we saw these two tiny furballs who needed a home... I picked up darling Bailey (Black with tan swirled on her legs, like a cup of coffee with a bit of Bailey's Irish Cream swirled in). Teasing DH, I said we should take her home. The big dummy was supposed to say no, we don't need a dog right now.

Instead, the big dummy said, "But if we only had one, she'd be lonely!"

So he picked up pitch black Sambuca, who reminded us of the licorice taste of Sambuca liqueur. Our household doubled in size instantly, and we learned (and cleaned and repaired drywall) as we went.:teeth:

So you've added two new babies at once, too? I'll bet you're having fun with the new kitty and the chocolate Lab.

But with a Lab puppy in the house, it's a good thing Home Depot is nearby!

So sorry to hear about your baby! I hope she will be okay. We have an 11 yr. old black lab and he sits on my toes when I'm at the computer too. When he thinks I have been on the computer too long he goes and gets a ball and puts it on my lap. Labs are great pets!
Please update us on Monday.

Sending P & PD your way for your labbie. We've had several and they sure make the house way too quiet when they're not here.

Oops! We just moved into a house that is "DONE!". Fancy faux painting on every wall, new hard wood floors, granite and traventine marble floors etc. Not very conducive to puppy and kitty, huh? I would have absolutely no clue how to repair any of these walls.
Oh well, they are members of our family as well and everything that comes with it.
Thanks for the Vet info. We were not real pleased on the compassion level w/ Garden Ridge Animal Hopsital in Lewisville when we had to our cat to sleep a year ago. They had no clue what to do w/ 2 30 and 40 somethings bawling about putting their mangy cat down.
Kitty gets spayed on Tues and puppy is not far behind.

Definitely call Dr. Shaffer's office! He and his staff were the absolute best when we lost Bailey.

The compassion, the amount of time they spent with us, the measures they took to help our old girl were truly unexpected.

There have been several times over the years when I've had to leave one of the dogs there for a few hours, and it was common to find that the girls the girls at the front desk had "adopted" them and had my dogs laying at THEIR feet during their stay, instead of being kenneled in the back.

I also have a kennel that we love if you're looking for one... Canine Courtyard on 407. Not a lot to look at, it looks like a warehouse. But they are wonderful with the pets, and my girls adore the people there.

So sorry about your "fur baby". It is so hard when they get sick since they cant really tell us what is wrong. I am dealing with a 16 year old chi/mix with congestive heart failure. We have been taking him in almost weekly to have fluids drained. It breaks my heart to see him sick. Best wishes to you and yours.

A little update on my sweet Sambuca for my friends...

We had kind of a rough weekend, kept her on the tranquilizers, which kept her acting drunk and confused. But that wasn't the worst- then they upset her tummy and we spent a LONG night comforting her and cleaning the carpet.

Visited the doggie surgeon on Monday, and he recommended surgery on her throat. The surgery would PROBABLY help her breathe, but could cause her to have trouble swallowing food. Being under general anesthia for the surgery has risks because of her age. And he explains that the breathing trouble is usually just the first manifestation of general neurological failures- that within time (maybe weeks? years? who knows?), she'll have other stuff start to fall apart. And the surgery's around $1500.

Right now, she's breathing hard but seems happy and perky. I can't bring myself to let them cut into her neck, because I'm afraid that might just make her feel worse! And DH is out of town, so I keep flip-flopping on what I should do, wimpy me.

For now, I've got the surgery on hold. I'm just keeping a close eye on her day to day, hoping she'll let me know when it's time to operate...

Thank you all for your kind thoughts for us. Getting old is rough. :(

Kathy, I'm sending good thoughts to you and your wonderful furbaby Sambuca. I hope she feels better soon.
