yet another sign of the downgrading of Disney. I went to pick up my preordered Incredibles today at the Disney Store after having to reverse my Incredibles online purchase when I was told that only full screen was available online (gotta get those Lithos, ya know). When I picked it up at the Disney Store, I was told that they would only have full screen, well I took it anyway, went to Best Buy, got widescreen and some other lithos), and will be returning to the Disney Store to get a refund. Very sad-from those days when going to the Disney Store was quite the experience.....

That's horrible! I was considering picking this up today at the Disney Store as a show of support. No way will I purchase "Fool-screen" titles. Widescreen only please!

The term "full-screen" is an oxymoron. It really means "less than the full theatrical screen."

Be advised that you may be asked to return the lithos you got when you pre-ordered. I went to pick up my pre-order when I was told only fool screen was available. I promplty wanted to get a refund but was told I needed to turn in the lithos. My wife and I decided to give the fool screen to my nephew (so we can keep the lithos) but I hope he doesn't cuss us out for giving him this. He's only three so we should be ok....

What an incredibly short sighted decision this was by Disney/Chidren's place or whoever is running the stores now. Look in any electronics store and all you see is WIDESCREEN TV's. Why would I want a DVD that is not in the correct aspect ratio? Amazing.

I was half way out the door when I looked in the bag and noticed that I had a full screen version so I turned back and said that I preferred the wide screen and was told that’s all they had. I stood there in shock for a minute. I think that they should have said before I purchased it. I haven’t opened it so I think I will take it back. Wal-mart is cheaper anyway.

FYI, Pixar features are not pan-and-scan 1.33:1, they are rebuilds with vertically extended master generated backgrounds. The theatrical feature is 2.39:1 anamorphic however, which is by definition a superior format if your equipment can handle it properly. Both formats include all of the theatrically displayed animation.

To my knowledge, Pixar is the only studio to do this.

Actually, you are wrong about this. The film has been pan & scanned, HOWEVER, Pixar will recompose certain shots that are hurt by panning an scanning. The entire movie IS NOT recomposed. Brian Bird, himself, on disc 2 mutters under his breath about full screen. Pixar did the same in "A Bug's Life".

Probably half of the "A Bugs Life" transfer was panned and scanned as well. They only recomposed/re-rendered on shots where a standard cropping would not yield a satisfactory 4:3 composition. You would have to pick a section of the film where the widescreen composition is really using the whole frame to be sure.

Disney is an amazing paradox. The release brillantly done Vault titles, Platinum collections, and Treasures, then screw up something like this, or by releasing "Follow Me Boys" in fool-screen only.

Bottom-line No OAR, No sale! So Best Buy happily took my money, and gave me a cool lithograph. The Disney Store lost my sale.

See this is why I don't like sticking up for something that I assume to be true from past performance. That's right when they stab you in the eye with a pointy stick. I'm guessing it's been done in the name of "family friendlyness" or some other marketing excuse.

Sad.

I ordered the fullscreen from Disney Direct to get the lithos, pin and plush. We really wanted the widescreen and figured we would give the fullscreen to someone else. We got the movie in the mail on Monday from Disney Direct and it was widescreen!! We were really happy but I wonder how the people who wanted fullscreen and got widescreen felt?

Why wouldn't you be asked to return lithos? Because you don't like the product offered? You want a gift given to you with a purchase without a purchase? So they goofed. Big deal. It was a mistake. How many mistakes did Disney Stores make prior to being bought out? Being a previous cast member I can tell you it was alot. Get over yourself.

I don't think this is a "goof". Statistics suggests that more than 60% of DVD sales are Widescreen. Don't tell us that Disney Store is not aware of this statistic.

This is deliberate.

How would you know it is not a ordering goof?
What is there to gain by this great scam? You don't have to receive their product. Furthermore it would be silly to ever let someone keep lithos if they return product. Considering the prices are always higher at the Disney Store.
Don't shop there. I think it is funny that people are complaining and saying that it is basically going downhill. The Disney Store had reached rock bottom years ago. Customer relations suck at the parks as well. I guess that would be Children's Place problem as well. My beef isn't with people not happy with product. That is understandable. But the fact that one gets upset because The Children's Place would ask for a litho back is laughable. Thousands of thousands would then pre-order to only ask for a refund at the time to pick up, keep the litho, and go to places like Ultimate Electronics buy the DVD for 11.95 and get a 5 dollar gift card. I mean I guess they should just hand product over as people walk by. :sad2:

OK, I know that I've gotten very little sleep lately, so I may have missed it but, where did anyone say that they were going to return the movie without the lithos? It seems to me that the OP said that they found lithos elsewhere with the dvd version they wanted and were going to return to Disney for a refund. They never said that they were not going to return the lithos did they? Or did I miss that? In which case (in my best Emily Litella voice), never mind.

I had to wonder about this too. Lots of people like those lithos and extras. And some are going to pay to get them and still get the widescreen elsewhere. Which was what I was going to do with this movie. :teeth: However, being that I am not rich, I would not do this with all of the movies and then would probably stop collecting the lithos, etc.

I ordered 2 from disneydirect and got 2 widescreen ones, no fullscreen. I called and they told me that the shipment did not arrive and they had not gotten any fullscreen. They told me to keep my widescreen version and in April they would send me 2 fullscreen versions. (we'll see). Anyway I thought I could possibly exchange the widescreen at a Disney Store for fullscreen. I shouldn't have to return the litho, since it's not a return, just an exchange. I'm afraid if I wait for disneydirect to fix the order, it might be too late to exchange or return.

Mommyboo this is what I am referring too.

My point is why wouldn't you be asked?
You basically entered into a contract. You purchase this dvd and we will give you lithos. You break the contract by not purchasing you SHOULD be asked to return the lithos. Did they advertise it as a widescreen you would be purchasing? Or was it an assumption? Why not be angry at Disney/Pixar. for distributing it in full screen? Why just stop and put blame on Children's place? Furthermore, I don't even know if TCP was in charge of making these orders considering that Disney Store product will have a 2 year lag because Disney buyers purchase in advance. I have no idea if this is a oversight or what it is. I definately wouldn't have the ignorance to just blame a company not knowing the facts. Quick to blame and call deliberate. Even though I don't see what TCP gain is to selling only fullscreen. Or how it is a scam in any way. I didn't even think they would continue the tradition of offering lithos.

I am curious how that will work out for you. Please update when this happens. You shouldn't have to considering it is would basically be an exchange. However, you aren't exchanging product with the same company. Do they still take Disney Direct returns? Good luck, I hope it works out.
