Just how many cliques threads do we need?

Oh Puleeze. The drama. There are only a handful of people still posting at this time of night.

Are we not supposed to post becuase we happen to be the only people left?

ETA: What constitutes hijacking? People from "clique" threads posting on the same thread? Is that all it takes?
Its not drama. Its fact. It happens way too often to be drama.

So just because the board is slow, any thread is fair game to inside jokes and off topic nonsense? :confused3

So are we supposed to just hand this thread over to people who want to talk about eating, drinking & appliances? If so, I'll gladly go start ANOTHER thread with the same topic so we can get back on topic.

Alot of this thread was OT.

It wasn't just by clique posters either. Where were the inside jokes? Please point them out.

I saw jokes referncing other threads...but not "inside" jokes. :confused3
It seems as though some of you wait for known clique posters to post consecutively..then claim a hijack.

but like I said, alot of this thread was OT all night.

Do you really think ther were, 8 pages, or whatever page we are on of people answering the question how many clique threads do we need?

People went of on tangents all evening. Pro and con.

ETA: ok 11 pages. :)

For a thread about such a potentially explosive topic it's remained suprisingly civil. We all know what happens when anyone posts a thread about "cliques" and hijackings. It appears this thread served exactly it's intended purpose.

BTW - almost forgot what I was gonna post - over a year ago, I popped into a big thread, said hello , was welcomed with open arms, and made some of the best friends I have ever had. They have helped me through a very rough time in my life. There have been times during the past year that one or more of these friends have called, sent flowers or cards or letters or gifts, just to let me know they cared about me. They have never criticized or judged, simply been my friends - true friends. What you may call a "clique" thread has been my lifeline to sanity for many months. If any of you would like to come chat with us, laugh with us, or if you need an ear or a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on, PM me and I would be happy to introduce you. I am very proud to be considered my friends' friend, and when I say "love ya" to them - I mean it  Come on over - the door's always open and the wisecracks are flowing - but behind them is the magic that makes the DIS so special.
hmmm, those friends sound very familar! I think I may know one or two of them! :grouphug:

Again more snarkiness. Does it never end?

Snarkiness and sarcasm together again:grouphug:
Isn't that what make the DIS, the DIS? Where would we be without it?

:confused3 I guess it's just a difference of opinion, because I read it censoring, but again, its just my opinion. You're opinion is not going to stop me from posting, and for the most part, I think I do tend to stay on topic, but whatever.

 Well, thanks, whoever you are. I'll take unsolicited and false praise anyday. It sure beats what others are dishing out most days. The funny thing is, when I first came here, I tried to be so nice and not stir the pot....ever. But I've gotten my butt handed to me so many times (and usually in PM's so no one else can see) that, frankly, I just don't care anymore. No one else seems to. I've been called every name in the book, told I was an unfit human and told I was ugly after posting a picture. In the whole scheme of things, I just started giving it as good as I get it. I stopped worrying about who's toes may be getting stepped on. There are a lot of people here I care deeply about, and some I wouldn't spit on if they burst into flames, but in the whole lesson of life, I've learned I'm the only person I need to make happy. But, thanks again. :thumbsup2
You know WD2, without you, Aimee, Las Vegas and moving sidewalks, I would still be in the Points Free Club! You are a true friend!

Yes sometimes I feel as if I CAN'T post on a thread because several of my friend thread have, and we'll be accused of taking over. Even if we stay on topic it happens. For instance, we are on topic now, but someone is bound to point out that several of us are from one thread.
That is so much the truth Paige. Why should we have to be afraid of posying on a thread, just because some of our good friends have already posted there?

i know i'm late to this fun thread, but if you don't like it don't read it. there are great people on those clique threads, even though I'm not part of them.
you may not be a cliquey person, but you are great fun to stalk!

do we think we're better, or do they think we think we're better - maybe they think we think we are better, when really we don't? my head is spinning again:scared1:
shall we change your name to Linda Blair?

if that's the case, I guess I should join ya'll.

if that's the case, I guess I should join ya'll.

I've been seeing you on every thread I read this morning. Should we report each other for stalking? or for starting a new clique? :rotfl2:

Seriously, I do see a difference between a lot of members of a mega thread posting on a different thread and them truly hijacking it. Everyone should feel free to post wherever they want to post, however, taking an on-topic thread off topic just for the fun of it is rude, especially one that is still on topic. It's different posting on a thread that is more silly to begin with. And I haven't seen the hijackings as much as I used to see them.

Of course posting here could be considered a hijacking, however when it's predicted in the first post that almost seems like a challenge.

Splash, If nothing else you started a thread that lasted 12 pages. :)

If I start a thread that gets to 2 pages I think that's good, although that rarely happens. :rotfl:

It wasn't a challenge. :sad2:

12 pages of being on topic would have been better. Take out the hi-jacking crap in the middle & the posting to try to get back on topic & I don't know how much is really left.

I'll be gone most of today so I won't be around to participate.

Sounds like a party. :cool1: Should I start a thread asking for the bathtub barbecue recipes now?

Wouldn't a barbecued bathtub be a little crunchy? :confused3

Oops sorry, didn't mean to wander OT there, it's just that my brain doesn't really know how to stay on topic. I think part of what makes the DIS so entertaining is the banter that goes on, but like I said before, I do get frustrated when a bunch of cliquers take over. I'm not sure that's what happened here... since many of the posters who went OT are from a bunch of different clique threads, and some are not from them at all. I think the case here is a bunch of people just got a little slap-happy and silly, and feel comfortable enough on the DIS to express that. Or something like that... I don't know, the darn phone keeps ringing and derailing my train of thought.

Yes, this is true but as usual only one group will get blamed.

What inevitably happens on a thread like this is the complete denial that cliques are exclusive, and we always hear that we can "Join in anytime! All are welcome!" The first couple of times I heard that, I actually did try to join in on some groups that seemed to fit my personality, but the few posts I made were hardly welcomed, and were quickly drowned out in all the shout outs and banter.

Anyway, I definitely see Splash's point, although I'm one of the "if you don't want to read it, skip over it." It does get highly obnoxious when the groups take over other topics.

What have we here? A thread complaining about cliques turns into a hijacked thread full of inside jokes. Shocker!!! :sad2:

If it's late and people stop posting to the thread, there's no rule against chatting on your clique thread or starting another one. Hijacking a thread, particularly when you're doing the exact thing the OP was complaining about, is rude.

I agree that they should be in their own section of the CB, like the game threads They all seem to start off innocuously enough, so they do belong on the CB at first.

At what point does it become a clique thread and get moved? I'd hate to be the moderator in charge of that one! :scared1:

I think it's great that people have made friends here though. I also predict that this thread will get nasty.

Thing is - sometimes we get moved here. The 'clique' thread Im on, started over on the resort boards.... And was actually more HELPFUL there, cuz when people were booking, or planning a trip, we'd be able to answer TONS of questions, and did.

They don't seem to care. :sad2:
