Just heard rumors on Sorcerer Radio...

I could get totally lambasted for saying this but... it is in any way possible that Guardians of the Galaxy could be a cool ride AND have a science/technology/future educational element, i.e. Mission Space?

It's possible for GoG to tell a story and educate people ... but it's difficult if they build a straightforward coaster in the style of Hulk, Rock'n'Roller, Rip Ride Rockit, etc. The storytelling has to be front-end loaded in the preshow and then it's basically wiped out by a mindless scream-inducing thrill.

A coaster that stops and starts with slow and fast sections like Revenge of the Mummy and Expedition Everest is better for telling a story.

They SHOULD do it that way ... but will they?

I'm just going to say this - I work at a very LARGE University and used to work in Procurement. If Whiting Turner is doing this, I have no doubt it will be delayed. They constantly got projects on campus, but I always felt like they took forever. But that's govt contracting vs private contracting. So take it with a grain of salt.
It's all about money when it comes down construction pace and schedule.

It's actually about bonuses and damages...

You get done early...we pay you $____

You get done late...we deduct $____

That's how things got done in the 20th century and now companies are averse to them.

Is that not money? or are bonuses and damages paid in dole whips?

They are creamy and delicious...

I was referring to add/deduct provisions in contracts.

But that would require more of a level of committment than what we have seen...

So…regarding the coaster coming to Epcot, I read all of the posts on the wdwmagic boards. The descriptions and hints given by the excellent insider martin describe it as having a backwards launch, lasting about 4 minutes in length, and there will be show scenes. He has also indicated that the entirety of the EEA ride building will be completely gutted, making this a new ride system. He even said that the building could be added onto to.

Indeed, one of his earliest posts stated that he was pleasantly surprised at the creativity that was being put into this attraction, indicating that there is thought being put into it from a story/learning perspective. The phase II part of this utilizing the Wonders of Life Pavilion does not sound as promising. He did say somewhere that there could be a show or an area to walk through (this being one edutainment area of the overall attraction).

To be clear, however, martin is an EPCOT Center purist. He has stated that the ride is going to be spectacular, but that it is in the completely wrong place. Much of what he has said regarding Epcot's future is that the old EPCOT Center is dead and everything that he is hearing indicates that in totality, if most of the plans come to fruition, we could be looking at a complete Epcot 3.0, but in no way will it be a return to classic EPCOT Center. Meaning, the park will be infused with IP-related rides and attractions, both in FW and in WS, but that the original mission of the park will be greatly diluted.

I don't want/need the giftshop fodder in Epcot...and neither does anyone else...

...they just don't realize it yet.

This is just as misguided as eisners balk on the update circa 2000. If they have to go thrill ride - at least don't tether it to comic books and cartoons.

Very sad/disappointing if true.

As long as ToT is still there in June 2017...if it truly is on the table for a re-do, I want to experience it as much as possible.

Hopefully the Florida one stays. Again, let's write ACTUAL letters, not stupid social media comments. This is your best hope to get through to The Bobs.
Why in the world do they think THIS ride of all rides needs a re-vamp? It's got a great story and is still popular. I just don't get it. This is how they start ruining things.

...and...(this is my queue)...

That Iger let all of WDW basically stagnate for 10 years while they increased prices and cut perks/services and now they have big boy competiton up the street?

So they have little choice but to rip the place apart?

Lol...those that have been around here awhile know I have beaten that bongo for years until i have put my fist through it...and i truly wish I was completely wrong/paranoid about it years ago...

...but...it's a curse. ;)
Hear hear! Ever since Harry Potter went to Universal it's like the Disney powers started running around to Benny Hill music trying to compete, and they keep missing the mark. I wish they would do DISNEY and not everything else. I totally don't get the GoG thing. Did anyone go see that? It's kind of like hanging all of your hopes on Hunchback. ***? (which I would be more interested in mind you. :/ )

No....they'll do another simulator ride like they always do and then wonder why Universal is still doing so well. IMO Universal is continually advancing in the ride department. Personally I am thrilled that Universal got Harry Potter. Disney wouldn't have done it justice. It's like they just quit trying. Please God let Avatar land be something spectacular. Even if it's a complete joke of a shot at competition for HP.

I don't mind the Inside Out rumor to Imagination, although I think Figment is still a character they need to leverage more strongly for Epcot.

I was rather, "meh" about Inside Out the movie.

The GoG rumors boggle my mind. I just don't see how they fit in at FW, and certainly not at ToT at DL. Total head scratcher to me.
GoG wreaks of desperation. My God, they've got a gold mine of Disney that they just refuse to use. Why on earth is there no Tangled presence? Mulan for crying out loud. The reason the movies seem to just die and go away is because they won't shove them down our throats with rides and whatnot. Just about everything could be a Frozen if they would just market them. I mean I get that some things have no hope because they are just weak movies ie; Atlantis....but Princess and the Frog etc....I could go on and on. Some of those movies were really good. When I die and get to heaven it will be a Disney full of actual Disney ****e. lol:tongue::tongue:

They have definitely lost all initiative to technological innovate.

They're putting a boat ride in avatar..

A jungle cruise through a movie that barely anyone can tell you any details on...

I get it...they want capacity...that's always been a problem.

But it's such short tem thinking...when RSR opened...they had four hour waits and I'm guessing (pretty much certain) that there polling said that was bad for spending mentality by the customers...

But here's the thing...RSR will still be a draw 10-20 years from now...will the avatar boat ride be?

Silliness for stock has
Completely taken over.

My wife, who is not a huge Disney fan, but has learned to appreciate it, heard the rumor, and even she said, "WTH?" She watches the Marvel movies with me as they come out on BluRay, but GoG is the first one she got up and left after 25 minutes. Said it was too weird for her. I agree, they're trying to work a property too hard into the parks.

I'd love to see a Mulan ride in the China pavillion, a Ratatouille in France, or a Brother Bear ride in Canada, etc.

See...this is where I always get flak...

I TRY to be fair...I really do...but you can't change the reality of this:

They don't want to give up their free marvel money...they have no clue what to do in Epcot or want to invest...

So they try "next best thing" with guardians.

It's tacky. And how do they justify this simple approach? They convince themselves that if they force guardians on everyone - like in the frikkin tower of terror - then it will become spiderman or xmen.

No...no...NOOOO!!!

...nevermind...I need to go cut grass or something...

I'd take all of those 3 first...my how things change in 5 years?

I'd even take inside out in imagination...but that's even a cop out.

You can say that the other pavilions are antiquated/cause issues because of updates...horizons had to go...so did world of motion...maybe even universe of energy.

But imagination? That's a dead concept, huh?

It is in one building at the hq in Burbank, apparently...several, a actually.

Hmmm... Did anyone go see the movie that grossed $775M?

If anyone does simulator rides, it's universal. The vast majority of their attractions are: sit in car, put on 3D glasses, whirl around and look at screens. Heck, transformers and Spider-Man are even the same ride vehicle. Yes, forbidden journey is a creative ride... Everything else, not so much.

However, I agree while heartedly that Avatar was a knee jerk reaction to missing out on Potter. The true test will be Star Wars land.

Yes Yes Yes!!! If you're gonna do it, do it! Don't stop at just Frozen and have that sticking out like a sore thumb. Pinocchio in Italy and Alice in the UK! I love the Alice ride at DL. There should be a dark ride in each of the countries if you ask me. The diehards shouldn't have an issue, you can either ride them or not...just like the couple that are there now.
