Just Got Upgraded!!!

YIPEE!! My mother just called AAA to make the final payment on our 11/29/03 cruise and the travel agent told her that we were assigned to room 5000 cat 8 - we booked a cat 11 gty!!! Has anyone had this room before? It is all the way to the front of the ship on deck 5 with a porthole. It will work out great being on the same deck as the clubs since I will be traveling with a 5 year old!!!!!

They must be selling a lot of the lower cats and making room by giving upgrades.

Help me out here. We are going on our fourth cruise in Nov. How are upgrades determined? Is it arbitrary or do you make a request?

I didn't think they happened this far out either, but when we called to make sure the TA recieved the final payment that is when they told us!

This was an arbitrary upgrade, we did not request it at all. We were just happy to be sailing, CAT 11 or not!

I've always wondered if one way they choose to upgrade is if someone requests a room that is already taken -- for example if you call to reserve and want a Category 11, mid-ship, near the elevator bank. That would be fairly popular, but if you called DCL directly, they could make changes to get you your request, while giving the person originally in that room the upgrade. So if you have category 11 with decent placement on the ship that someone else might want, DCL might upgrade you to guarantee atleast the "profit" of two category 11s, rather than taking a chance that both the higher category room remains empty.

We did not request any room, and it is still very early for rooms tobe assigned???? Not sure why ours was assigned already. It is a nice little surprise though. We are also a party of 4, and it is harder to find those rooms in some categories.

I know some people out there are not happy when others get upgraded. They feel that if they have to pay the higher price for a higher category then so should everyone else. We were not looking for, or even hoping for an upgrade. It was a complete surprise.

I have always been happy for others that have been upgraded, knowing I probably would not. But I could still share in their joy. Who could have been upset that Verandah Man is getting a verandah?!?!
