Stayed in room 2229 Kudu Trail Arusha Savannah. Two Queen Beds. We requested bunks but we were traveling with another family and we had adjoining rooms, I was told that adjoining rooms are not both bunk rooms and since I have two daughters and they have one of each they got the bunks. No big deal. The Lodge was beautiful and it was cool to see Zebra, Giraffes?(sp) and other animals from the balcony. Our room was on the second floor. The Lobby and the main exit/ entrance are on the third floor and the pool and all restaraunts are on the first floor. Being in between was nice and our room was close to the lobby so we didn't have a far walk. Mara the food court was adaquate (good chicken Ceasar!!) but Dinner at Boma was out of this world!!!! The pool was busy and loud but you could find quiet corners if you looked. Although we tipped Mousekeeping daily nothing special was done, when we stayed at Dixie Landings animals were made and our refillable mugs were cleaned on a daily basis. The music from africa being played is a nice touch and the darkness some people complained about didn't seem to bother our group. It was cool sitting ouside by the fire pit at night having a few "pops" and talking with other guests. It does seem to take longer to get to the parks on the busses from AKL. I would recommend that you stay at AKL at least once. Would I go back? Probably not, but that's because I want to stay everywhere :goodvibes I love being outside and walking the grounds at Dixie Landings(yeah I know, POR) or CBR. I want to try the Poly, BW, WL and the GF. I wanna go back right now!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well I guess it wouldn't be as special If you were there to often. Well that's my take on the AKL for what it's worth. Any questions email me

Did you have savanna view reserved? Did you request a certain room location? We have only stayed at Dixie Landings (some 6 years ago) and we loved it but I was thinking of trying AKL and WL this next trip (Dec) and wondered if I would like them as much.
You spoke of long bus rides and I wondered if they compared to Dixie? I know when we stayed there the rides were sometimes made a little long by all the stops we had to make and if this compared when having only one stop but farther out Resort location?
Glad you had a good time...hopefully you will get the chance to try all those other locations and sooner rather then later :)

Thanks so much. We are sooo looking forward to our next trip...check the countdown timer!

tigerlilly--yes we reserved a savannah view, and we requested rooms close to the main lodge. If you've stayed at Dixie before I'd recommend staying at AKL. You can save money by getting a non-savannah view and hoping for a free upgrade (it happens very often) or just be content with the numerous savannah viewing areas through out the resort. The busses do not stop anywhere else but the AKL so you may be right about the rides being equal. I hope I didn't come across as disapointed that was not the case the lodge is a truly remarkable place. I think that from now on I will always split my stay between two resorts.
