Just got back from SSR- Trip Report

It was a good night. Got a little frustrating at times with lines and with our dear children who don't mind waiting for the things they like but want to leave as soon as they get what they want :rolleyes1 If you saw a family having words about kids being selfish on Sunset Blvd, it wasn't us :guilty: ;)

Gee.... I thought mine was the only kid (she's 12) that acted that way!

One of the many wonderful things about a 2BR is that we can get up in the morning, go in the kitchen, gather everything up for the day and never disturb the sleeping children :thumbsup2 DD is still recovering and needs her sleep and DS needs to sleep to recover from all of these late nights.

DH & I leave for our 10:10 tee time at Osprey Ridge. We walk up to the Carriage House and have bell services call a taxi for us. We arrive at Osprey Ridge in no time at all. After checking in we stop and get coffee & breakfast at The Sand Trap. Good food & good service and quick :thumbsup2 We were paired up with a Dad & son (shame DD didn't come today, he was 15 and cute) As always, some of the golf was good and some was not quite as magical  We finally heard from the kids around 1pm, they were on the bus headed to Epcot. I forgot my cell in the room that morning so DH was the one that kept getting the text messages & pics -guess where we are now-in line for TT-got Soarin FP's-- and so on. It was much quieter when they were sleeping ;) This was our first time playing Osprey Ridge and I have to say I really liked it. Beautiful course! On one whole we were all walking up to the green when 3 deer (looked like Mommy Daddy & baby) came running out. They stopped and looked at us (kind of like 'what the heck are you doing here?') and then ran off. Here's a pic from DH's blackberry:
IMG00019.jpg

When we got to the 16th tee (beautiful par 3 with water alongside) we could see lightning out in the distance and we got a weather warning on the cart that storms were moving in fast and to be prepared to take cover. We waited a few minutes as there was a group still on the green. Then we heard the thunder and saw more lighting and decided it would be better to be in the clubhouse drinking than out in the storm  We headed in and parked the cart in the "garage". Dad & son partners left, we decided to wait and see if it would pass. We grabbed a snack and some drinks at the Sand Trap and waited for the storm to pass. BTW, they have really good onion rings, but be warned that is one huge basket for an appetizer! The clubhouse wouldn't let anyone on the course until the weather cleared. It took over an hour before we finaly got to finish our round. The kids called and said it was trying to rain at Epcot but that was about it. A cab came and picked us up and dropped us off right in front of our villa. After showering and changing, we headed to Epcot to meet up with the kids and have dinner with the princesses :goodvibes

DH & I walked thru the gates at Epcot at 6pm. Our dinner ADR in Norway is for 6:15. We check in with the kids and tell them to check in for dinner, we'll be there soon. We made pretty good time and got there about 6:15-6:20. DD tells us they wouldn't let her check in because we weren't all there yet. We checked in and waited about 15-20 minutes for them to call our name and have us move over into another line. Then they take one family in at a time to meet the Princess who is greeting everyone that night. We met Belle when we came in. The photopass photographer takes your picture and then you're led to your table.

Food was pretty good. I really liked the shrimp salad and the cucumber salad on the cold bar as well as the cheese :) DH was happy to have the different types of herring. DD had a salad :confused3 and DS skipped the cold bar. DH ordered the traditional Norwegian dinner (basically meat loaf) DD had the pork (which fell right off the bone), I had the salmon (for those counting, yes that's 3 nights in a row) and DS had the kids cheese pizza  Our server did say that he could get another one if he was still hungry. --short rant to say that I hate paying Adult price for the 11yr old eating a kids pizza. I have no problem paying the Adult price if he ate the adult meal, but c'mon $40 for a cheese pizza and a coke?:furious: --Rant over :goodvibes
All the dinners were good, not "wow" or "fantastic" but good. Dessert was pretty good. We ordered a couple of coffees to have with dessert, but our waiter disappeared and we never got them. He managed to stop by to drop off our check but disappeared again. We were joking with the family at the table next to us, because they'd been stood up as well  We finally made it out of there, with full tummies but disappointed. This meal cost more than our wonderful dinner the night before at Brown Derby :(
Here are the princesses that we saw:
Snow White came by first
DisneytripJune08002-1-1.jpg

Then Princess Aurora came to see us
DisneytripJune08003-1-1.jpg

Alice came next (ok, a princess? really? )
DisneytripJune08004-1-1.jpg

Wow, couldn't believe who was next
DisneytripJune08006-1-1.jpg

He didn't want to take this pic, but Cindy & I convinced him to

One last thing about dinner at Norway: Ladies if you need to use the restroom, go before you get there and after dinner use the ladies room over by the Norwegian ship. I tried 3 times during/after dinner and it was full everytime-- with little princesses in their princess dresses who couldn't go by themselves. It was a nightmare in there. This ends tonights PSA :rotfl2:

After dinner the kids took off to use their FP for Soarin and DH & I finally went and saw the terra cotta army in China. If you get the chance, check this exhibit out. It's really neat :) We strolled around for a little while longer and waited for the kids to meet back up with us. We decided that we weren't going to stay for EMH, we were too tired. We had hoped to leave before Illuminations was over, but the kids didn't catch up with us (by SE) until afterward :( Then DS wants to go on Spaceship Earth. He never wants to go on there! Well ok why not :rotfl: Then we finally head out to catch a bus.

Tonight's bus service left a little to be desired. We walked up to the stop and there was already a line but no bus. WL/Ft Wilderness stop is next to us, they're full but a bus is there. 2 or 3 more busses come for WL/Ft W, but none for us. Finally a bus shows up and 2 women who were standing over by the WL stop walk straight over and get on our bus before anyone else. These women had only been standing at the other spot for a few minutes. This was such a full bus, that people that were in line, didn't get on. :furious: We did get on, but I was really :furious: about these line cutters, I just don't understand why people can't behave like civilized adults. These weren't kids, they were women in their mid 20's. I feel bad for the people that didn't get on the bus because them.

It was an uneventful ride after that. Once we got back to the room we changed into our swimsuits and spent some time at the Grandstand pool. It was a very relaxing way to end the day :goodvibes

Tomorrow's plan is Typhoon Lagoon & Yachtsman Steakhouse

I love the pic of your son with Cinderella! Great report so far. We're looking forward to our first stay at SSR in Jan. We've never eaten at Hollywood Brown Derby, so I might have to add that to our itinerary after reading your reviews!

We wake up Friday morning--ok, DH & I wake up Friday morning, the kids are still out cold. The plan is to go to Typhoon Lagoon today, come back to change and then dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse (a new one for us :goodvibes )

Again, I love this 2BR villa! We get up, make the coffee, shower/dress, sit on the couch watch the news while we drink our coffee....and the kids continue to sleep. The weather forecast is calling for a greater chance of storms this afternoon. Do we go wake the kids up and get moving? Should we let them sleep? What if we just wake up DS, since he's the one that really wants to go to TL? Maybe we should just have DH & DS go? Too many questions without enough coffee :surfweb: Dinner is at 6:30pm, maybe we should push that back to later so we'll have time to go to TL:idea: No problem, called and changed our ADR to 8pm. DS finally got up after 10am and wasn't really ready to get moving. We finally decided that it's unlikely we would get enough time to enjoy TL and that we would save it (and the money :rolleyes1 )for the next trip. Unfortunately, TL is always closed for refurb when we come down in December, so it might need to wait till next June. The one thing that we have decided is that it will be scheduled for the first day (or so) of the trip and not the last, so we won't be too tired :goodvibes

DD finally woke up, but just wanted to read her book, so DH, DS & I headed to High Rock Springs pool. DH & I enjoyed a cocktail and read our books by the pool while DS had fun going down the slide. We grabbed lunch from AP and ate by the pool. DS had the cheese flatbread and I had the roasted vegetable flatbread, both were very good! It started to rain while we were at the pool (good thing we had a table with an umbrella) we played in the pool in the rain for a bit, I even went down the slide. The sky started to look a little scarier, so we thought it would be a good time to head over closer to our room. Told DD to meet us at the Grandstand Pool, by the time she was ready, we were walking back to the room  We all changed and headed to DTD to do some shopping before going to dinner.

We had to get Mickey rice crispy treats, pretzels, and marshmallows at Goofys Candy store. I got my Christmas ornaments (learned last December to get them before they run out) and wandered around for a little while. We were all getting hungry and tired and decided to catch a bus for YC. Wouldn't you know we arrive at the Yacht Club around 6:20  Good thing we moved our dinner ADR to 8 :lmao: We walk up to Yachtsman and tell them our little story, the girl looks at us and then gives us a pager. DD notices that she writes "long story" next to our name on the reservation book :rotfl2:

We were seated right after our 1st ADR time. Sadly, I really wasn't in the mood for a drink, so we all ordered sodas. We started by sharing 2 appetizers: the Seared Maine Diver Scallops and the assortment of artisan cheeses. The scallops were incredible :thumbsup2 they were huge, cooked perfectly! They came on a frisee & Shtake mushroom salad with a warm bacon vinagrette. I could have licked the plate it was so good :goodvibes I don't remember which cheeses were on the cheese plate, but they were very good. The bread came out about the same time as the appy's. I love good bread and it came with a little dish of incredible whole cloves of roasted garlic. Ohhhh, yum! A little butter and a clove of garlic spread on the bread :cloud9: Then it was time to order our entrees. DS had known for months that he was having the filet (we ordered it with the winesauce on the side) DD decided to try the NY Strip served with peppercorn brandy sauce and potato gratin with Diamond white cheddar. DH decided to go with the Ribeye served with Horseradish Mashed Potatoes and Red Wine Butter and I couldn't make up my mind :confused3 I love ribeyes, but that's what I always order when we go out for steak, so I decided to have the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and a red wine sauce. All were fantastic! DD loved hers, and the potato gratin was very very good :thumbsup2 She ate every last bite and then helped her brother finish his mashed potatos  DH seemed to enjoy his meal, all I know for sure is his plate was pretty clean :) DS & I both enjoyed our filets. The redwine sauce was very good, but a good thing that we ordered it on the side for DS since it was a little too strong for his taste. DH & I ordered coffee after dinner while we decided what we wanted for dessert. Nothing on the dessert menu was really hitting us since we were so full :rolleyes1 Gotta say, love DDE! This was a very good, but pricey meal  My only complaint was that our server just wasn't very attentive. I don't like my drink to go empty at Applebee's, I certainly expect more service at a restaurant like Yachtsman. Fantastic meal and I'm sure we'll go back :goodvibes

Next up: Dessert :goodvibes

After dinner we walked around the BC for a bit and walked over to BCV to look around there. We decided to go to Beaches & Cream for dessert. I was really looking forward to my No Way Jose :cool1: Again, those plans don't always go the way you think. DH decided we should just go ahead and get the kitchen sink :scared: The kids have wanted to try this for a long time, and really it's cheaper than ordering 4 sundaes :rolleyes1 For the unintiated, here is the description of the Kitchen Sink:
Kitchen Sink - 8 scoops of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee and mint chocolate chip, smothered in every topping we have $21.99
When they say every topping, they mean EVERY TOPPING! When they bring it out, they turn on these flashing lights and announce that a family is about to take on the Kitchen Sink, describes it to all and then delivers it to the table.
Oh Dear Lord, here it comes!
DisneytripJune08002-4.jpg

Up close as we dive in
DisneytripJune08004-4.jpg

This is good!
DisneytripJune08012-2.jpg

We did pretty good
DisneytripJune08014-2.jpg

Wow, this was something! 8 scoops of icecream with 4 people doesn't sound too ridiculous, it's when you put the whole can of whipped cream; jar of marachino cherries; marshmallow topping; strawberry; pineapple; peanut butter; hot fudge; butterscotch; chocolate syrup; bananas; sprinkles; anglefood cake; oreos; candied orange slice; bundt cake and chocolate & peanut butter morsels :lmao:

It was around 10pm by the time we rolled out of B&C. We made our way to the boat dock figuring it would be easiest to catch a boat to DHS and then a bus to SSR. It was a pretty good plan, except that since Epcot had been closed for an hour there were very few boats running. Still completely full from dinner & dessert, we made it back to our villa without incident.

To make life a little easier when we get to our real world home, I finished up some laundry. Tomorrow is the sad day that we pack and head home :sad2: Tomorrows plan is to pack and load the truck up. Maybe play some mini golf and get on the road late afternoon. We're not planning to get home until Sunday.

Up next: When will I learn? Back on the road paved with good intentions

Love your TR! We are staying at SSR in Nov., I just may have to look into that golf membership. sounds like a great deal.

Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time!!!! The Kitchen Sink is so good. We finally got one on our trip last October!!! Don't know if we would ever do it again, but it is something that every family must try!!!:worship: we are bowing to the kitchen sink god!!!!

Yep, the kitchen sink was good, up until I got a huge bite of banana! (I hate bananas). Mmm, but my potato thing and my steak were good, and mohawk boy's potatoes were good, and the wine sauce that he had on the side...and the bread. Sourdough rolls and onion rolls...they were to die for!! I couldn't stop eating during dinner, it was too yummyful!

-Blondie :)

We did TL and the Yachtsman on Easter Sunday. We had a blast at TL (you have to get there next time) and we also all had different types of steak--everyone inhaled their meals!

Love your report. We leave in 29 days for SSR and your report is exciting even for my D20/D24 who won't admit they're excited until they get on ME<G> Love the pics and your son's mohawk.

It is a very good deal! It paid for itself the first time we used it in June 07 ($50 for the card & 3 of us at $35 each for a total of $155, that round should've cost us around $180 with AP discount)

It was good, but I don't think we'll be doing that again for quite some time. I agree that everyone should try it at some point, just make sure you have alot of people or at least a couple of teenage boys ;)

DH & I went to TL years ago (on our honeymoon so almost 17 years ago :rolleyes1 ) I can't wait to go back and try the Crush'n Gusher, that looks like fun. Then I want to be one of the "lazy people in the lazy river"
Maybe we would have done better on the Kitchen Sink if we hadn't inhaled our meals at Yachtsman :rotfl:

Thanks! I'm sure you'll have a great time on your trip, just remember to spend some time at the resort and enjoy it :goodvibes

That is one thing we learned last year, we don't need to commando the parks. We plan on enjoying the resort and watching my family and friends (yes the group is growing<G>) try to commando the parks and then realize that they don't need to anymore...our DVC isn't going anywhere.

So sad when you wake up and have to load up to go home :sad2:

DH & I got our stuff packed up and I packed up the kitchen/living room stuff. He was going to run up to the clubhouse at LBV to see if our clubs had come back (there was some confusion about whether they could send them back to LBV since it was closed) UH-OH, he was back a lot faster than he could've driven to the clubhouse  My truck didn't start :scared: He called the front desk (I know, he really talked to someone in Oklahoma ;) ) they sent someone over to jumpstart it. Not a great way to start the day. He then ran over to the clubhouse, and nope, no golf clubs :headache: A very nice lady at the pro shop said she would hunt them down and drop them off at our villa. DH came back, locked the truck with it running and (thank goodness for free internet) looked up where to get a new battery. He ended up going to the Car Care center on property. The car care center is running a diagnostic on my truck, the golf clubs are still missing and it's now 10am, and we're supposed to be out of the villa at 11! :scared:

DS had finished his packing, so he took off to the arcade & Community Hall for a bit. DD finished her packing. I walk up to the Carriage House to see if we can get a late check out somehow. I told them I was having a very "unmagical" day, the CM at the counter didn't understand to well (English was not her 1st language) but a Manager overheard and came over to help. She checked a few things and said we could stay in the room till noon and if that wasn't enough time for my truck to be fixed to let her know. All she asked was that I call when we did leave the room. Thank you!!! I really couldn't have asked for anything more and was very grateful :goodvibes

As I walked back to our room, I saw a golf club cart pull away from our building. When I walked in, there were all 3 sets of clubs :thumbsup2 Things were starting to look up :) DH called and said they were installing a new battery and he was happy that he was not being overcharged :thumbsup2 He made it back and we loaded up and were in the truck at 11am :rotfl:

Originally the plan for the day was to hang out, play some mini-golf, maybe go to a park for a bit then head out late in the day. We were just too tired and it was going to be really hot so we decided to just drive home. :sad1:

I also loved the " Green is the New Black " shirt -

just saw the Wicked Production last weekend - loved it !

:cool1:

thanks for sharing
really enjoyed your trip report
hope you got home saftly

Wow! What a last day! I'm glad everything worked out.

I saw Wicked in April and loved it! Her shirt is actually from AKL and is about the enviroment, but I can see how it would work for Wicked too :)

Thanks for reading!

Wow! What a last day! I'm glad everything worked out.

The last day certainly did not start well  Thankfully some Pixie Dust must have been thrown our way and it all turned out just fine. The Manager at SSR that gave us the extra time in the room was great (even though we didn't end up needing it). DH was really sure that the prices at the Car Care Center would be ridiculous, but it was under $160 for everything. He said he couldn't have done much better at home. pixiedust:

Funny story about the "missing" golf clubs, the morning we checked out I checked my email before packing up my laptop and saw that I had a voicmail at home from a (407) number --but I never remember how to check my home voicemail :confused3 When we got home, it was from the pro-shop at Osprey Ridge telling us that they couldn't send our clubs to the pro-shop at LBV so they sent them to bell services at SSR. 2 lessons learned: If our first & last name had been on the bag tags, they probably would've been easier to locate & always use your cell phone # as the contact #, so they can get ahold of you while you're on vacation :goodvibes

We had a good trip home. Everyone was getting hungry shortly after leaving so we stopped at a restaurant that I used to go to with my grandparents. We went to Toojays in Lake Mary (there are quite a few locations around Orlando) Really good deli! We ate till we were stuffed and then got back on the road for the trip home. We stopped a few times to stretch and were home around 9:30pm.

All in all it was a very good trip. DD finished the first round of antibiotics and did need to stay on them for another 5-6 days, but she finally recovered :goodvibes and is busy planning our December trip :thumbsup2

That's a really good tip! I will have to remember that for my October trip. We'll be transporting clubs between the Magnolia and LBV courses. I'll make sure both my clubs and my Dad's have my cell number on them. Right now, my clubs don't even have a tag! Guess I'd better get on that.)
