Just got back from Hilton Head

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all the lovely cast members we met there will not be too badly affected by Hanna.

Now that we've made our first stay at a DVC resort, I really wish we'd have bought sooner! Our kids were upset that our first stay on points wasn't at WDW, now they're asking how soon we can go back to HHI. Since our home resort is AKL, I'm guessing our first add-on points might just be Hilton Head.....

Good to know. We are in the process of buying into AKL and are looking forward to planning our first DVC trip sometime soon. We just moved to Streamwood, IL from Seattle. We are tempted to "someday" to make the drive to WDW. Have you ever tried that from the Chicago Suburbs? If so, how is it?!?! Looks like about a 18-19 hour drive.

We love HH too! It's one of our "home" resorts and every one of our stays there has been fantastic!

We did the drive to WDW once back in 1994. It's actually more like a 23 hour trip. We left around dinner time on a Friday and stopped at around 2-3 in the afternoon Saturday. At that point we were a couple of hours away from WDW, but our reservation didn't start until Sunday. We went to bed really early and got to WDW around 9 or 10 the next day (Sunday).

For our HHI trip, we took it slowly. We made stops in Indianapolis, Gatlinburg (wanted to take the kids through the Smoky Mountain Nat'l Park), and Charlotte on the way down. Since we only had two days to get back, we drove from HHI to Lexington KY the first day and from there to Chicago the second day.

I just got back from HHI too, about a week ago.
The first time we went we planned for it to be a one time thing, but got hooked very quickly. I am now looking to do an add-on of HHI points- if my DH lets me.

We were talking about hurricanes with B'Loou Crabbe while we were there, I sure hope everyone is okay. There are a lot of great CMs there, and I would hate to see any of them lose anything due to Hanna. My thoughts are with them this weekend.

It took us about 21hrs last February. Left around 8pm Friday and had dinner in Orlando at about 5pm on Saturday.

Straight through with a 3 1/2yo and a 1 1/2 yo Not the best idea!

From Maryland, it is 10 hours.

I think mapquest said it would take 16 hours, but realistically I think it's more like 19. It's hard for me to say, since we had to detour through Charlotte to visit some investment properties we have there -- making this a business trip and deductible And we lost some time coming back because we were 10 cars behind a semi that slammed into a guard rail and jackknifed across all lanes of traffic which cost us an hour or two.

I still have yet to stay there. Actually, in July I had to go out to Savannah,
GA on a family emergency and was sooo tempted to leave the hospital for a few hours and drive to HH just to check it out. Too bad I felt guilty and didnt do it!

That would not be a bad decision at all. Right now we have 150 pts. at VWL, 80 at HHI and 60 at AKV. DW and I have discussed many times that we wished ALL our points were at HHI. We've even thought about selling our VWL contract and buying a resell at HHI. We may still do that in a year or so.

We had such a great time in HHI (on our first visit) this past July we have a GV booked for next August and we're going to book 2 2brs for cash for a family reunion! Loved everything about it, looking forward to adding on in the next year or so-
