Just going for dessert?

What are people's thoughts about going to a sit-down restaurant just for dessert? I'm thinking of Flying Fish. It's pretty expensive and the entrees don't look all that appealing to me but they have a chocolate souffle like we had on the Disney Cruise and I would love to have that again.

I usually wouldn't be too concerned except I was considering going on Valentines night. Probably not the best night to tie up one of their tables just for dessert, right?

Don't feel guilty about tying up a table. Even if you linger, you're not likely to spend the time you would for a full meal - think of it as making up for someone who stays longer than average if it helps you feel better. :) If this is what you want to do on V-Day, do it and enjoy! I think it's a wonderful idea.

The Unofficial Guide recommends going just for dessert to Sci-Fi at MGM (apparently their entres aren't the greatest) just to experience the atmosphere. I think that's what we'll do this year, and I think that's probably not an unusual thing at WDW - people want to enjoy the cool restaurants, but not necessarily eat a meal there. ;)

I'm afraid we had a bad experience at the Sci-Fi a few years ago going just for a snack/dessert. It may have just been that particular night, and it was some time ago, but we haven't forgotten. Don't know if one might have a similar experience currently.

We only ordered shakes and fries that night. Unfortunately the size of the portions of the a la carte fries were indicative that the waitstaff and/or kitchen staff were not happy with us for not ordering entrees. Our a la carte french fry tubs each contained about 6 or 8 fries. We were quite disappointed, although the shakes were good.

Meanwhile my brother and his family, who were adjacent to us in the restaurant, were a little more hungry than us. They ordered full meals and really enjoyed the chow. Not only did their food look pretty tasty, their tubs of fries were overflowing and they got quite a kick out of our wimpy little fry portions compared to theirs. We hear about their "victory" at Sci-Fi to this day.

We plan on a full meal at Sci-Fi when we go in June. It's a bit pricey for what is probably about the equivalent of counter service food, but the kids really enjoy the atmosphere and movie clips. We laugh now at the bad experience, but we'll go back and try again, and order entrees this time around.

Thanks for the warning! I guess we'd better get the burgers, we don't want to get wimpy desserts at $6.00 a piece, that's for sure! lol :rotfl2:

Anyone experience desert only at rainforest? Being on the dining plan this isnt covered but thought I might be willing to pay for an extra desert or breakfast there for the kids to see the place.

If you are PAYING for a side order of fries, you should not settle for a partial order.....Really, you should have complained to the server and if neccessary, the manager. It is not up to the kitchen staff to tell you how much food you should order!

For what it is worth, we love the SciFi Diner--they make a great burger (which is what should order at a drive in anyway--what kind of nut orders shrimp alfredo at a drive in???).

We did the Sci fi just for dessert last October. We were treated very well, the server was very nice, and our dessert was spectacular, I had the chocolate tart. However, if you are using dessert to fill you up for awhile and you are taking kids, have them get an adult dessert, the kids sundaes are TINY!

beth cam, Definitely try the Rainforest Cafe for dessert. My youngest usually gets the SPARKLING VOLCANO (meant for two or more) as his MEAL! The rest of the family enjoys the food there,so we order lunch. But this dessert is SO HUGH that we all get to have some!( and my son is a GOOD eater!) Joan

didn't care for YSH for dinner but they did have a great desert sampler
