Just frustrated...

I'm so sorry! It's bad enough to be sick but then when it interferes with Disney it's just downright depressing!
Since you mentioned one of your reasons for not liking SSR is because it reminds you of home and not Florida, I suggest you try OKW. We were pleasantly surprised by it last year and now know why so many just love it! The villas are huge, it's vibe is totally a relaxing beach vacation, my kids loved the pool and other outdoor games, busses were fine, and if you book hospitality house area you can walk easily to everything you need with no car necessary. Just having breakfast each day at the full size table on the patio looking at the gorgeous Florida landscape was a treat!
Just a suggestion...

I'm just curious why you didn't purchase trip insurance? Trip insurance can makeup for those unexpected problems in life. I know from experience how it can help, the night before we were to leave on a week cruise with the family I ended up in the hospital with a bowel obstruction and spent a week in the hospital, luckily we had the insurance and got reimbursed

I'm sorry to hear about your health, but you will get better and be able to go to Disney and have a great time.
We tend to plan that someone will get sick and end up in the hospital, which is where I am tonight waiting for the surgeon to get here and schedule something for tomorrow

Not the op, but just wanted to say for some reason I never purchase trip insurance unless I'm traveling overseas or really flying. Don't know why. rarely going to disney will I use it.

Op, glad you're feeling better, I'll just repeat what others have said. take care of yourself first and concentrate on that blessing. Disney will be there when you're ready.

I believe I'd stay in SSR, whether I liked the resort or not. Any stay is better than no stay IMO. We don't own at SSR but have stayed there several times before and thought the resort was fine. I really liked being able to walk over to DTD.

SSR is our last "resort" also, only because of how spread out it is and we don't rent a car. However, it is better then not going at all. I love Oct. in Disney.... yet again, I love Disney anytime I am there and not here on Long Island. I hope everything else goes your way. Sorry for you disappointment.

I have questioned the travel insurance- but not sure how that applies to DVC rules- if I had the travel insc would our borrowed points go back to the previous year rather than expire? Would my expired APs have been renewed for the same length of stay on a future trip? I don't know that travel insc can save the things that were most frustrating- other than the $100 pr ticket fee from Jetblue.

All the insurance does for points is reimburse the dues for the lost points. It does not return them to your account. It does not extend your AP. It should reimburse the plane ticket. It does help with travel delay, lost baggage, medical expenses while on vacation. I never buy it, it seems expensive. If your stay includes points from more than 1 use year, you have to pay for each use year. I believe it's $79 per use year.
