Hi everyone

A few weeks back we were all wandering round our local shopping centre (Merry Hill, nr Dudley, West Midlands) deciding where to go this year. We are doing the whole Florida thing next year when Josh who is only 18 months will be a bit older, so were did not really want to do Florida this year. Anyway, Lunn Poly had a Florida weekend, massive saving to be had by all. So My wife suggested we try a beach holiday in the US if the savings were so fantastic. So we go in, stars and stripes everywhere, we sit down and the kids run off the cause the usual mayhem. I explain that we are going to do the Disney thing next year, so we fancied trying a beach hols in the US, due mainly to the fantastic prices that were splashed all over the window. The sales girl says well I dont know too much of Florida (good start) so I will call over our US/Florida speciallist.

I explained that we fancied the gulf coast, St Petersburg, Sarasota all the usual and her reply (Florida specialist remember), "Ahh, St Petersburg I have never been but I have always fancied going to Russia!!!!!!!!!" Oh, my god!

Anyway the prices were crap, all they wanted to do was flog Disney tickets even though we said we did not want to go there this time. All the other prices they gave us we could beat easily on the net. So were off to Cuba anyway.

Ahh, the Kremlin, right next to I Drive.!!!

No doubt, and another thing, have you noticed, no matter where in the world you want to go one of the sales staff has just come back from there. "What was it like?" "Oh it was fantastic really friendly good food". I wanted to say that I wanted to go to Mars, "Ah yes, Mars, Susan has just come back from there"

As a travel agent i feel very that this has happened to you! apologies on behalf of the industry! In our defence I can only say I'd never profess to be an expert on anywhere I wasn't COMPLETELY full of confidence about and she should never have been addressed as such but we are subject to enquiries for all over the world and have to have general knowledge of places as diverse as china and india and kathmandu!
sorry didn't want to make excuses just feel very this has happened.
In an industry that is fighting harder and harder to stay afloat I can honestly say that having a decent TA can make or break your holiday

Obviously nothing personal, but as yu say with the industry fighting hard to battle the internet it could have done without. I must say I cant honestly think long term how the industry will survive, more and more people are booking direct if not on the net, then direct with the brochures.

Cuba here we come, hopefully I will get to meet Frey Bentos (If noone watched the office this will be a quite tumbleweed moment)

In the branch of a major travel agents I worked in (and my friend still does),they deffo say they have been whereever it is they need to and rave about it She was the main one to do it!

I never ever did, I think honesty is always the best policy when it comes to making reccomendations like that
