Just discovered Disney Magical Express

I have not been to WDW in about 4 years and am delighted to discover the existance of DME. Just a couple of questions however: 1) has anyone had their luggage lost or misplaced in the transfer from airport to hotel (or vice versa)?; 2) is it possible to pick-up your own luggage at the airport(MCO), put it on the DME bus, and take it to the resort with you? Thanks for any help.

1) Not as far as we know. Misdirected/lost luggage is generally due to the airline, NOT Magical Express - and one of the perks of DME is that THEY will 'wait around the airport' for your luggage to arrive (assuming it's delayed and not lost completely) and deliver it to your resort when it shows up. Plus, once DME has your luggage, the tags are scanned no less than five times between the plane and your resort, and the trucks all have GPS systems for tracking. The only issue of which I'm personally aware is a friend who had two rooms did not get her luggage; eventually, when the occupants of the other room returned (from Pleasure Island) they realized ALL the bags had been placed in their room - but that's a Bell Services thing, NOT Magical Express.
2) Sure, if you really really want to. Just throw away the yellow DME tags when they arrive, then go wait for your bags at luggage claim, haul them around the airport to the DME counter...
