Just curious as to why so many people post to a thread saying subscribing.

If you do that, why? Just curious. Can't you just subscribe without telling everyone? I see some threads that will have 3 or 4 people in a row saying "subscribing' "subscribing also", "me too", etc.

LOL, I've always wondered that too. I have subscribed to several threads that I never post to and noone ever knew. :teeth: (usually the juicy ones. shhh)

I see it too. I don't know if they honestly don't know how to subscribe without posting or if they just want to add to their number of posts. I almost posted a "friendly reminder" for those that really don't know. Just in case someone is reading it...

Click the thread tools button on the thread you wish to subscribe to
Click on subscribe to this thread

Hope this helps someone. :teeth:

I always thought it was their way of keeping the post "bumped" to the first page.

I've never done it, but maybe it is their way of just saying that they are interested in the thread? :confused3

I also like when they forget to say something in one post and post right after it.
1st line is always AND 1 MORE THING or something like that .

Don't they know they can just hit the EDIT tab and add it to the OP.

I've been posting here for 2 years and have over 7000 posts. I just figured out a couple of months ago that you could subscribe without posting. I guess not everyone knows all the little tricks of the board. Or maybe they're just padding their post count.

Oh ok. That explains it. I just thought they were subscribing and then telling people.

Speaking of not knowing how to do things. If you want to quote more than one person in your post, is there an easier way to do it than cutting and pasting from another "quote" window? Thanks.

What does subscribing to a thread do?

Then you can get emails letting you know others have posted to that thread you are interested in, but what I do is subscribe without email notification and then I just go to User CP and see my list of threads I'm subscribed to. It's a great, easy way to keep track of any threads you are interested in.

I can't stand when people post "just subscribing" because if I'm subscribed to it and then get notification that someone posted, I go to check it out and get disappointed that it's just another "just subscribing" post and not a post contributing to the thread.

They should have a sticky on each board with these kinds of tips/tricks so everyone's aware of them.

I didn't know you could subscribe without posting eithier!!! When I do a "bump" though, that means I want the thread to stay towards the top of the boards so people see it.

I just figured out this one too! It's soooo much better. I have a few subscriptions to big threads with lots of posts and I usually get the notifications a day or two later. So, by the time I get them, I've already read the thread. Frustrating.

I don't know if this is the best way, but this is what I do: I use the "quote" button for one then I highlight/copy the other/s. When you're ready to paste just click the quote button at the top of the reply window. It looks like a text bubble (you know like in cartoons). Click it once at the beginning of the text you want quoted and then click it a second time after the text.

Hmmmm... been here awhile and never knew that  . I can see how the emails would get rather annoying to say the least... especially with a hot topic!!!
