I wanted to see if the car I am renting has gone down at all. Well...it is now $91 MORE than when I signed up for it last Friday! I will probably keep checking every now and then until December, but I am happy I reserved when I did!
I agree with you! I don't get it either. If anything you would think you would see larger vehicles like SUV's and minivans DROP in rates because people won't want to pay extra $$$ for gas while on vacation...it just doesn't make any sense. I tried sending an email to one of the rental companies awhile back asking why the prices were so crazy. I got some sort of generic response back telling me how to book a vehicle. I chose not to respond because I felt they were intentionally evading the question...**sigh**
Part of the problem is that the State of Florida takes an awfully big bite.
I found car rentals (mid-size, weekly) for $170, which one might think isn't so bad, that end up costing $250 after all the taxes and fees.
I ended up reserving for 2 weeks (wife and son are doing a pre-WDW cruise on RCarib out of PtCnvl) with Avis for $450 including taxes.
While I have been a long-time Dollar customer, I have recently had a few disappointments with Dollar in Texas and Washington State and I have had only EXTREMELY good service with Avis and I will now rent from them if their price is close.
