Just caught(?) my boss!

DH's boss gave him his phone because he was getting a new one. Well, somebody didn't get the memo, because while DH was playing with the phone the night he received it and a text message came over and it had a Texas number which is where the boss works it said "You look really great today..." and my smartass DH writes back:"Oh, Thanks, but how exactly can you see me 500 miles away?"

Final update: My boss and I talked about it -- talk about an uncomfortable conversation! His cover story, which I buy about 85% of, is that he and the other woman have recurring contests to see who gets most embarrassed by their e-mail thread. He told her what he accidentally did, which means she won that round. (Although she's probably a little embarrassed too, I'd imagine.)

Thanks, everyone, for being there for me while I quietly freaked out about this!

I would buy about 0 percent. If he is telling the truth he is still engaging in something that is tempting and could get out of control. I suppose you should probably put it behind you, but I feel bad for you because I think I would have a hard time not saying something to the wife.

Ewwww! Joke or not! I'm skeptical, so I don't buy it either, but that really doesn't matter. It doesn't seem very professional.

Don't get me wrong...I don't believe the guy's bogus explanation, nor do I think it's very professional. But, if the boss treats the OP fairly and professionally, then that's all she should care about. His personal life is not her worry.

I do like the idea of keeping a copy of the e-mail, in case he suddenly decides he wants the OP "gone". But I'd keep it at home and not bring up the subject ever again unless it became necessary.

You work for Bill O'Reilly? :rotfl:

I did have this happen to me too at a previous company I worked for. I was the Exec. Asst to the CEO and also was going through emails as required on the job. I thought something was fishy when I read the email and when I saw a reply from my boss stating, "my messages are read by my assistant - don't send any to the office!". He also started leaving the office at 4:30 (always never before 6:00pm, he prided himself on never taking vacations). I also did his expense reports and would see hotel bills for our area on them.

Long story short, I knew he and his wife weren't in the greatest situation, but when his wife is calling me asking his flights home, etc... and she thinks he's coming in another day, I had a hard time with that. I ended up leaving my job and great $$$$ because I wasn't going to be put in a situation of lying to his wife and he sure as h*** wasn't going to admit to it and get his rear end fired.

Too funny!

Like many of you, I tend to be skeptical in most areas of my life, but I'm still sticking with my theory that it's about 85% "joke" and 15% "my boss testing the waters with the other woman to see if she's interested in starting something." It could possibly be as high as 60%/40% in his mind, but no more than that. True, I don't think he'd joke like that with someone he wasn't at least a little interested in, but the e-mail was more of a wink-wink-double-entendre type of thing, not so much a let's-figure-out-when-where-and-how-not-to-get-caught type of thing. (If those kind of e-mails start flying, he'd BETTER make sure he's replying to the right person and not to me!!!)

He tends to joke around a bit in his working relationships with women -- and will probably end up toeing the sexual harassment line at some point -- but that's why I'm buying his story. It's very "him" to do something like this all in "good fun." Luckily, the "other woman" doesn't work with us, our department is mostly made up of men, and I'm too smart to play along when he starts trying to "joke" with me. I'm going to be even more cautious from now on, though...

Not quite the same thing - but VERY funny. A friend of mine told me she'd had an argument with her husband just before leaving for work. He worked at the same company but on another floor.

She decided to send him a quick email telling him how much she loved and cared for him. Our email system was one of those that would fill in a name if you entered just the first few letters.

Well I guess she had her hands on the keyboard wrong and somehow got the first few letters of a Japanese employee in our Tokyo office. Her husband knew this man quite well as he traveled to Japan frequently.

The husband and wife had the same first initial for their first names. His email was lastname@... and hers was xlastname@... I'm sure the recipient thought the husband was sending him a "love" note. Can you imagine this poor man's reaction when he got the email!! And to make matters worse my friend was so embarrassed that she never told her husband or sent a follow up to the other guy.

I have never laughed so hard as I did over this.
