Today we had plans to meet up with another couple. We're old roommates from university. They met us at our hotel around 10:30am and we sat around the pool and chatted. They've never visited any of the WDW hotels, so we decided to do some whirlwind touring. First stop was the Animal Kingdom Lodge. My friend lived in different parts of Africa for many years so she was particularly interested in the hotel. She said that the hotel had elements of northern and southern Africa all mixed into one. She was very impressed. The animals still weren't out today.
We decided to go to Gaylord Palms next. This was the first time on our trip where we ventured outside of WDW!!! I've been to the Opryland hotel in Nashville many times so I was eager to see this new hotel. The three indoor gardens are just lovely. We had a great time just wandering around and exploring. We all decided to have lunch next at the Waffle House. I had never eaten there before and was told to give it a try as it was a "tradition" for some of the locals. Our waitress made me giggle. She overheard us talking about going camping up in Canada next weekend. She didn't realize we were actually from Canada, so she started telling us how cold it was right now and to make sure we bring lots of clothing! hee hee After explaining we lived in Canada, she was a little embarrassed. Very politely I said that we live in southern Ontario which is very different from northern Canada. She was just being friendly, but it still bothers me how little some people know about Canada. Ah well. It was still fun to experience.
Our friends seemed to really enjoy hotel exploring so we decided to hit all the monorail resorts next. We went to the Poly, GF and Contemporary. They loved how each hotel has its own little theme. It was a Saturday so the GF had some brides taking pictures. What fun to see! They loved GF but thought the Poly was more their style. I think we agree.
After making a quick run to the car, we got our friends wedding pictures and had lunch at the Poly food court. It was so much fun catching up and looking through their photos (they just got married last year). I also had a terrific turkey croissant with carrots and grapes. It was so fresh and such a refreshing change from our typical hamburger dinner!
Dh wanted to go to the MK that night to catch the parade and fireworks again (since last Saturday it was raining) so we bid farewell to our friends and took the monorail to the MK. As usual for a Saturday, we were struck by the crowds. Wow! Thankfully we weren't trying to get on any rides today so we just took one ride on the TTA and sat with a strawberry swirl enjoying people watching. It was a beautiful day! We went back over to Frontierland to watch the parade. What a difference from last week. More characters were in this parade and our favourite floats were back! Yeah! We really wanted to watch the fireworks as well so we shuffled with the crowd back to mainstreet. We stood right in the middle of mainstreet and had a terrific view. Dh likes all the night shows in WDW, but he says there's something about Fire in the Sky that seems extra magical. I just love seeing him so happy here. We wandered through some of the shops on the way out and went back to the hotel. Tomorrow is our last day!
