i finally took the plunge, called my DVC guide and did it!

all he took was a creidt card for the deposit, didnt go anything we discussed or anything, and said they will send me paperwork in the mail by next week and to call him when i got it. is that normal? it seemed to fast and rushed for me, maybe he was busy. i am paying cash (via credit cards) so we didnt have to worry about financing. all he said was i am getting 150 points for a feb use year, and will get 150 bonus points starting upon enrollment, and another 150 in feb 06.

he also said that i would have to bank those 150 bonus points of spend them by july (next month) or would lose them. does that make sense to anyone?!?!?!?!?!

i feel so confused now!

Congratulations on your purchase. It's not good that you are confused. You shouldn't have to be. Call your guide back and tell him that you are confused and you need to understand everything.

It does make sense regarding the banking of the points. You can bank 100% of your points in the first 6 months of your use year. So with a February use year, that would mean you could bank all of the points by the end of July. That will be the best thing to do unless you have a trip planned before the end of next January. Even if you bank the points by next month, you could always borrow next year's points if you plan a last minute trip.

Good luck and have fun planning.

thanks so much for the quick reply. the guide was in such a rush, he took my credit card for a $500 deposit, said my paperwork with all info would be here next week, and payment is due in 30 days. it was such a fast transaction, left me very uneasy. wasn't a disney experience i guess...

anyway, about banking, i plan on going to WDW in Oct or Nov this year. i will prob only use maybe 90 of my 150 2005 points. so i can make a reservation in august (when i get my leave schedule from work) and then bank the rest no later than october correct?!??!?!

thanks!

Like HBC said, call you guide back and if he treats you that way again, ask to have another guide assigned to you or no deal. I'd bet he will chance his tone ;)

BTW, WELCOME HOME :cheer2:

We bought in July with the user year of February too. We got the deed and all the paper work in August. DVC allowed us to bank the points when we had all the paper work done. There was not a problem due to the time we were allotted the points. I banked them and had a great vacation the next summer. Only thing bad was now I want 300 points each year. :earboy2:

You can bank up to 50% of your points by the end of October or up to 25% by the end of November with a February use year.

thanks for all your help, i am not gonna ask for a new guide yet. he said i should have all the paperwork next week and to call him when i get it. if he is still short with me, then i will find someone else. is the deposit refundable in case i want to back out?

HBC, if she doesn't bank the points she will not be using in her current UY by end of July, how does the bonus points figure into the calculation.

If OP is only using 90/150 pts, that will leave her 60 points from the original contract and yes those points can be banked if done by October 31st. But what will happen to her bonus points that has not been banked yet? Won't she lose it?

congrats! I just did my transaction yesteday, my guide today called and gave me my member #, I then called MS and made a trip ressie for aug and oct (with the 200 points that are allotted). Feb is my UY and I will start off with another 200 points. We allready had these 2 trips planned, so it was a deal sealer to have these points to use now, and use the cash we were going to spend on CRO ressies to put down on our DVC. great that you didn't have to go through the financing headache. I dont expect a problem, we put 30% down, but just in case I am not canceling our CRO ressies yet. I am a worry wart I guess.....
We have august set for OKW, and oct/nov trip home to SSR. Kinda cool that we are doing this at the same time! My guide said to expect our package in the mail in 5 days.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!! :flower:

Rozzie...you got a member number before even signing the papers? did you just call them yesterday with a credit card deposit, and you already got a member number?!?! who is your guide?

REEDYCREEK-------They charged my CC last night. I was told that it is usually 24 hours before they have you in the system, then you get a member #. When you have that, you are in the system and are able to call MS for ressies. If for some reason (knock on wood) we don't get our financing, they just cancel our ressies and refund our card. That is why I am keeping our CRO's until the deal is in ink. (I'm possessive of my CR ap rate!) In your case since your a cash buyer, you should have no problem. I'll PM you with the name of my guide, he has been great. I don't know what the rules are for naming guides.
hope this helps! good luck!!! :goodvibes

Rozzie-- Yes please PM me that name, I am starting to wonder about mine now. all he said was to CALL HIM in a week, not that he would call ME with any information. does that soound normal?

Reddycreek, just call your guide tomorrow for your member number. Then call MS and start making magical ressies!

were your guides initials: BD? If so..that's how it was with us, too a few years ago.

Yes. Your use year is February, therefore you need to make your decision whether to use or bank your current use year points or you can lose them. So, what he was saying is, plan or bank your current allotment of points.

Is that clearer? Let me know if I can help further.

You're right, those need to be banked or some could be lost. The OP's original question involved the bonus points but my answer was really to all of the points. You bring up a good point regarding the original 2005 points AND the bonus points together. When it comes to the banking deadlines, both need to be considered

I would bank everything that I wasn't going to use by July 31. That sound like it would be 210 points and then if need be, borrow from 2006.

I agree. Don't panic, reedycreek!!!

One of the great things about buying direct from DVC is that you can make a reservation almost immediately. Your STAY cannot actually occur until after the real estate closing, so if you should try to pull out it's no harm, no foul--DVC just cancels the reservation.

Since you said you can't make a reservation until August, you really have no use for the member number at this juncture.

In about a week you'll get all of the formal paperwork. It will include a product understanding checklist, member guidebook, Public Offering Statement and a couple of nice gifts. You will get very clear instructions on what needs to be signed and returned.

The manner in which your transaction was handled was pretty typical--aside from the lack of warm fuzzies. They usually just bill your credit card for a small downpayment and make the rest payable upon return of the documents.

This is just my $.02, so take it as such. At this point, I wouldn't go to the trouble of cancelling and starting over again. All of those reasons you decided to buy into DVC still apply--it just so happens that you either caught your Guide on a bad day or perhaps he wasn't as outgoing as he could have been.

Realistically, unless you decide to buy more points, you may never speak to him again. If you want to make special arrangements to pay off the balance of the purchase, you'll be dealing with member accounting. If you have questions about the paperwork, you'll be dealing with quality assurance. And, whenever you want to book a room or otherwise manage your points, that will be through Member Services.

If you feel it justified, I would suggest a phone call or letter to his supervisor to explain your encounter. Cancelling with the intent to change Guides will (IMO) just cause you a lot of grief, and I bet the original Guide still ends up with the commission.

Hopefully this was an isolated encounter.

Congrats and Welcome Home!
