Just bought a new suitcase..... how long until it is destroyed? :-)

IMO Polyester is a good material but not the best. I would be more concerned with the 28" size. Its pretty easy to fill this bag to over 50 pounds. A scale might be helpful!
Also if your flying Spirit remember that 40 pounds is thier max before extra $$$$. on top of the regular bag fee.
Good luck ...........

Always weigh our luggage before travel....

No Spirit out of MSP.... Airtran and Sun Country are our carriers of choice.

I'd be more concerned about the size. Per the manufacture's specs that bag is 59.5". The manufacturer's specs never include the wheels and handles, plus with that bag being soft it will have bulges once it's packed. Air Tran's limit for a checked bag is only 61". That just leaves 1 1/2" for any bulges, the handles and wheels. I fly Air Tran all the time and for the first time this past Dec they were measuring just about all the bags, as they weighed them. I've carried my same duffle multiple times on Air Tran and have never even had it questioned so was shocked when they measured it. They leaned it up against the side where they weigh the bags and measured it including the part of the soft handle that stuck up on top just a tad, the wheels, and even the lean. The bag only weighed about 36lbs, but because stuff fell to the bottom when they stood it up they measured the bulge at the bottom, ignoring how the top part now sucked inward. They measured it from the bulge straight up an imaginary line to the top of the where the handle would be. That bag is nowhere near the 61", but the way it measured it that day it was exactly 61". I was really surprised, because I've never seen Air Tran measuring checked bags unless they were obviously oversized, but that morning they were measuring bags that weren't even close.:confused3 Thank goodness my duffel has those straps on it that you can tighten up to make the bag smaller. The bag was only about 1/2 full, so I had the straps tightened very tight making it much flatter that it would have been if the straps were not there. Even so when they stood it up stuff fell to the bottom making the bottom bulge and the top then didn't have anything in it. They measured it, like the whole bag bulged. That day they measured it at exactly 61" even though it was only 1/2 full and I had the straps pulled tight. All that was in that bag was a 18" packing folder of clothes, two pairs of flip flops, and a toiletry bag (that fell to the bottom of the bag with the shoes and packing folder, when they stood it up). When they stood it up the top of the bag was completely empty, but they still pulled the bag out and measured it like it was full and buldging all the way down, if that makes sense.

What's the over/under on how long before it gets destroyed? LOL

If you do curbside checkin I'd say destruction almost immediately, if you checkin at the counter I'll give it 5 more minutes.

Not sure why you bought the bag. :confused3

Bag will be oversized if expanded. Bag might be oversized if packed full, protrusions caused by bulges in the pockets count. It might even be oversized as is. Mfg don't always count the wheels and collapsed handles in their measurements. Bag probably weights more then it should.

You didn't ask about that. The bag is made of polyester. It's Kohls house brand, yet Kohls doesn't give detailed warranty information on their website. If you're lucky it will last long enough to make your return flight. Two flights max.

You understand the luggage never really sells for $220. My guess is $77 is the price most people pay.

I have to say the size is a killer. I used to use big bags to keep the count down and would blow through them every other trip and it was really foolish on my part to do that. We downsized to 4 smaller bags (Southwest almost exclusively) and I have used them for 4 trips already and packing them for a 5th now. They are scraped and snagged but still roll and hold just fine.

Packed full @ or near 50 I give it 1 heave and drop before the handle is bent into some shape other than "useful" and 3 conveyor belt changes before a wheel gets turned into a "stump".

Our luggage gets pretty banged up too! As others have said, I would be scared to death with a bag that large. I generally stick with my 25 inch bags and the last trip (last month) each weighed 49+. (I'm really good at keeping it just under 50). A bag that size would surely go over the weight limit quickly. I would avoid putting any toiletries or shoes in it when packing and save those items for a smaller bag. I buy suitcases when they are on clearance whether I need them or not. Just got an American Tourister 25 inch (lightweightXL) for $29 on the clearance rack at BonTon (local Dept. store). It was marked down to $119 with an additional 70% off and a 20% cardholder coupon. My DH rolled his eyes and I had to remind him, it's easier to pick up a bargain before we need it, then when we need it. OP, good luck on that new bag. Hope it hangs in there for a long time!

Saw a small roller bag at LandsEnd.com for $275. At first I was :scared1: but then realized it wasn't too bad if you were a frequent flyer since LandsEnd has an unconditional guarantee on their merchandise. I didn't buy it -- that's WAY out of my budget. lol

I have a 28" bag and have never had a problem with it being oversize (I don't pack it to the point where it is expanded). I have hit the 50 pounds if I pack work materials but usually am around 43-45 (I look at the scale at the check-in counter). I've had it a couple of years and it's still in good shape. I use it on Disney trips and work trips where I'll be gone all week. On shorter work trips, I have a 25".

This is us. We never pack anything in our bag except clothing. The bag is the exact same size as our other suitcase that we use on Airtran every trip. I am not concerned about its size at all. Just to make sure, I got out the tape measure when I got home and measured including the wheels and handle...... will be fine.

I had purchased an Eddie Bauer rolling duffle a few weeks ago for $25 on clearance. Total measurements said it was 57 or so inches.... My tape measure says it is almost 64! That's a huge difference!

We'll see how it all plays out!

We got our my in-laws some very nice luggage and just 2 trips (to Disney and back) and 2 of the three bags were damaged. We are having the zipper replaced on one and a 3 corner/puncture fixed on the other. I hoe yours hold up well!

We have been using the same rolling duffels for 9-10 years. They still look pretty good and function like day one. (Off to look at the brand) American Tourister. I got them on a black Friday deal so good I hoped they would hold together for just one trip. Now 20+ trips later they are still our 1st choice.

I just returned from WDW with a $20 K-mart bag I bought in 1997. It's been to WDW 4 times, on 5 cruises, too many camping trips to count, one trip to Italy, and two trips to Tampa.

I got the under; 1.5 travels.

I got you down.........

---------------------------------------------

This post was meant to be fun, everyone. I didn't ask if anyone thought it was too big... I am a big boy and know it is going to be close........ my tape measure has it under 61" and I am confident it will be when we travel.....

Enjoy!
