Just got off the phone with MS and had no problems reserving Thanksgiving at Hilton Head. This will be our first trip to HH and I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions of you HH vets as it gets closer to time.

This will also be our first time sharing DVC with the family so we'll see if they fall in love with it like we did.

Now, to update my countdown clock. ::yes::

You and your family will love it!::yes::

We have brought friends and family on 2 separate occasions and everyone had a wonderful vacation!::yes::

We'll see you there! T'giving is lovely at HH and we enjoy going there as much as we enjoy going to WDW.

By the way, we're in AL too!

Thanks Kristen! So you've done Thanksgiving at HH before? If so, any suggestions on what to do for Thanksgiving dinner? Is there a way to have it delivered to the room or maybe a nice restaurant to go out to eat for a traditional turkey dinner?

Any tips or hints would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks to all!

Yes, they will deliver a T'giving dinner to your room. You'll recieve the info about it in the mail sometime in October. It's rather pricey but it does include everything - turkey (roasted or fried) or a ham, plus your potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls, choice of pie.

We did that the first year since we were in a studio. Last year I "cooked," ok, microwaved our meal. This year we have a one bedroom so I'm going to cook for real.

They will also fax you a list of the activities for that week, if you request. My kids have so much fun here. The people - DVC'ers and CM's - are wonderful! We've befriended several families from these boards and we always enjoy going to dinner with them and catching up since our last trip to HH.

Be prepared to not want to leave!

Thanks Kristen!

The youngest kid with us will be 19 so we'll be more interested in the adult activities. Glad to hear they'll just send us Thanksgiving dinner information. How pricey is "pricey" on the delivered dinner? We plan to get some things at a grocery store but I really don't want to cook a full Thanksgiving meal.

I've never been to Hilton Head at Thanksgiving before but will this year. I'm so excited because it will be me and DH's 11th wedding anniversary plus 2 of my sisters and their families are coming down with us so there will be 10 of us. We can't wait!!! See you there!

We usually do a convenience/homemade Thanksgiving dinner. I buy a small turkey (enough for a few sandwiches afterwards, but not tons of leftovers ;) ), and buy Stovetop stuffing, gravy in a jar, frozen veggies, etc. It's a great way to have a "real" Thanksgiving without spending all day cooking. (We're usallly at the "Turkey Bowl" at the beach while the turkey is cooking!)

We've spent several Thanksgivings at HH and hope to continue the tradition for many more years!!

HH is our home. We have been several times, but never at Thanksgiving. We will be there this year also. We booked last week and are also LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. This will be our first holiday at a DVC resort. We have always wanted to do HH in the fall also. We've always been in the summer (in fact will be in 32 days as well!!)

I have to ask - what's the "Turkey Bowl"?

HH is our home resort as well, and this will be our first Thansgiving there -- 13 adults and 6 children. Can't wait!

It's a flag football game on the beach. It's always a riot.

They usually have a couple of games going on concurrently and it's always a lot of fun. I just bring my blanket and cooler and love watching them. It's for all ages, from kids through adults.

The Turkey Bowl has always been open to all guests of the resort. Last year, however, I know there were some concerns about younger kids in the same game with rather aggressive adults and teens.

They also have been doing the football game on New Year's Day; this year, it was limited to age 17 and under (I think). Not sure if it was to keep it more manageable in general or to help avoid any accidents with the younger kids.

YIPPEE!!!!
We'll be there too! Our third Thanksgiving at HH. We have LOVED it there in the fall. Our kids are passionate about spending Thanksgiving there. We are hoping to have DH's mother and stepfather join us this year.
Can't wait to see all of you there!!!

Cam,

Since you've been there before during this time of year, can you suggest things not to forget from home or must do's while we're there? We've never been to HHI before. Is the water warm enough to play in?

Thanks to all for the help!

Hi, PJ!!
You are going to love it.
We have never done anything beyond dipping our toes in the ocean at Thanksgiving. DD15 and DS10 both swim in the resort and beachhouse pools, however. DH and I love the hot tub, especially at night.
There are lots of wonderful activities available for people of all ages -- our kids have done kids' night out, teens night out, nature kayaking, marsh walking, gyotaku (fish painting on teeshirt), all sorts of other crafts. I have done the island tour which was wonderful. There are sooo many restaurants near by but we have found two favorites, so we will be hard-pressed to try new ones, since I actually love to cook there. I do a full blown Thanksgiving dinner with lots of shortcuts, like my dear friend, disneyaholic! DH and I LOVE to walk the resort, across the walkway along the marina and all the way around to the "boardwalk" that runs along the back of the resort, along the marsh.
We have gone to the movies near the resort, too, and hope to continue a tradition we started last year with Kristen and her wonderful family (Kristen, consider this an invitation for mellow mushroom and whatever new movie is out that weekend for families!!). We also like shopping at the mall right there because they have a BELK, which we don't have up here. A lot of people like to hit the outlets on Black Friday and Saturday, but I won't waste valuable HH time shopping, even to save a few bucks!! Call me selfish!!!

Getting back to your questions -- I have a very extensive packinglist that includes all the normal stuff, plus cooking supplies for turkey dinner and some other kitchen items I like to remember. We drive down and put all kitchen stuff in huge plastic rubbermaid thingie, so I am able to take whatever I want (like a 2nd pitcher for my crystal light iced tea and a huge drinking mug for ice water). It is always interesting to pack shorts & tee shirts as well as jeans and sweatshirts for the temperature variances. I'd be glad to share a copy, but it might scare you to death!!!

Sorry so long, hope this helps!

Cam, I was hoping that you guys would be back again this year! Kind of hard to go anywhere else, isn't it?

We'll have to do adults' dinner out again, that was fun!

Gosh, not that I want summer to fly by or anything, but this certainly gives us something to look forward to in the fall ! ;)
