Okay so I hope I made the right choice. We are a family of 6 and going to WDW for the first time July 2008. They said we could book the room only right now and that the rate can change as the 2008 rates aren't out yet. Is this all okay....

Family suites were gone already....

So it was between All stars Music or Pop Century. So we picked Pop? Okay disers did I do good for a newbie?

congrats on your first visit to disney! :cheer2:

did you book 2 rooms? a family of 6 would be majorly cramped in 1 room at POP. you will have just 1 tiny bathroom, 2 double beds, about 260 sq ft & really not any room to put an air mattress. POP (and any of the value standard rooms) only have a maximum occupancy of 4.

depending on the ages in your group of six and also if staying onsite is not important to you (& if you will have a car), you may want to check into renting a condo, townhouse or vacation rental home. if you booked 2 rooms at POP, you can more than likely get a private pool home in a very close by neighborhood for less than the price 2 rooms at Disney's value hotels, especially in the high season of July. You will have much more room to spread out and have at least 1 or 2 additional bathrooms.

Relax though, you have come to the right board if you would like lots of advise for on or offsite stays.

I did book two rooms. From what I hear it is more magical to stay onsite. I also wanted to not drive to and from the parks so shuttling was an optopn for us.

Keep checking back periodically for the family suites. People cancel all the time, so eventually a suite might become available. :cool1:

What makes a "Magical Stay" is so variable for everyone it is hard to say that either on or off site is the best way to go. It is true that it can be very nice to rely on the Disney bus transportation so that you don't have to "think" about where you are going. If your kids are older and you plan to let them travel from the parks to your room alone, then staying onsite is the way to go.

Staying on & off site both have pro's and con's, you just have to decide what is important to you.

We have stayed onsite at Old Key West. We rented points from a DVC owner and stayed very economically in a 2 bedroom unit for Sun-Thur night stays. Since we enjoy the extra space and the full kitchen that we had at Old Key West, we are staying offsite in a vacation home for our upcoming November visit. We are looking forward to the extra space, and having the pool and hot tub in our back yard instead of a 10 min walk from our room - and to having our own private pool, instead of sharing it with lots of other people. So we are having also have "magic" offsite too.

You're starting to plan early and that's very good. You'll have lots of fun planning and also have a more well thought out trip! It is Disney, you will have a good time regardless if you stay onsite or off!!!

Good luck!

the dvc rent/trade forum. The value resorts are nice, but from what I heard pretty small unless there are only 2 people in the room. The other thing is try and get something with a rate now so you can start doing your budget(unless you don't have one:goodvibes ) Either way enjoy the planning because that's have the fun!!!

Sounds great to me. We are family of 4 that stay in the value resorts out of choice. Yes, the rooms are small, but since this is your first time in WDW you won't be in the room much at all. Even now, we are barely all in the room at the same time unless its time to sleep! Have fun planning!

I think you made the right choice! Pop is great and staying on-site definitely has it's advantages.
