Just booked a car with National and have question on adding DH as additional driver

Just got a great rate for our upcoming trip in a few weeks. $227.00 February 20-28. But I would like to know if DH will be charged as an additional driver? I know some car rental companies don't charge for spouses.

join Emerald Club and spouse is free. You also get to skip the counter. You'd have to call to add your EC membership to the rental.

I think National charged about $10 per day for an additional driver, unless you're a member of the Emerald car club. I just let DH drive to avoid an additional $70.

Thank you Dudspizza! I went and joined the Emerald Club and called and had it added to my ressie so Dh can be added at no extra cost.

Also, check your reservation online. When you are Emerald Club you get "skip the counter" service. There are two types.

Emerald Aisle = reserved a intermediate car and can pick from the Emerald Aisle. There are mid-size and higher cars there at the mid-size price.

Emerald Reserve = You choose from the aisle of the car you reserved.

Either way.... you get to skip the counter. If your reservation still stays "level of service" and the "counter" then you have to check in at the counter.

Ah, no Emerald Reserve or Aisle at Daytona. I had to go to the counter in Reno a few years back... at least they will have all of your info on file to speed up the process....

Tampa does have Emerald Aisle there, but it doesn't matter for drop off, it is the same process for everyone.
