It was my spring break solo trip. I have to say that I was disappointed that my ocean view inn room at Vero Beach had the same unpleasant smell in the bathroom that it had last year. Last year I complained, but no other rooms were available. This year, when I checked in, they told me the resort was full, so I didn't request to move. They came and cleaned it again, but to no avail. I ran that big dehumidifier machine a lot, thinking that would help, but it didn't. Last year, I was under the impression that the hurricane (was it Isaac or Frances) in 2004 was the cause. If that is still the reason for the smell, then they need to tear out walls or something. Its a real moldy, mildewy, urine smell. No other way to describe it. The beach was lovely, the weather was great, I love the resort, especially the view from the OV inn rooms, just not the smell of the bathrooms! Last year I had a 4th floor room, and this year was 2nd floor. On the other hand, Beach Club was fabulous! No "smell" issues at all. My 3rd floor studio was immaculate and ready at 3:00 p.m. Weather was great, crowds not too bad. I really love the location of the Beach Club and the small size. Even though the resort was full, I had a very quiet room. All in all, a good solo spring break. Can't wait to head back to OKW in June!

Thanx for the report! :smokin:
You know, we've had that same bathroom smell in a couple different VB rooms, including a beach cottage.
I'm wondering if it's something in the sewer system or water? :confused3

Thanks for the vero report. I'll be there in about 32 days for my first stay. I'll make sure I pack air freshener for the bathroom :thumbsup2 . Susan

***I'm wondering if it's something in the sewer system or water?***

I have been there previous to 2004 in a 2BR and Beach Cottage as well as the OVinn rooms, but never had the smell before last year. It's really a turn-off in such a beautiful, small resort.

Also back from a stay at Vero -- we had two fourth floor OV rooms and had no smell or mold problems at all. We did have the humidifiers in the room. ....hope to get together a more detailed report soon.

Thanks for the feedback on VB. I'm heading down in less than two weeks. I have an OV Inn room booked. Cannot wait.

I'll post a trip report hen I get home.

We were in VB with 2 OVIR's for 5 nights in Feb and did have a truely awful smell one time returning to our room. It was only one time and it dissipated when we opened the doors for a few minutes, never to return. The source of our smell was the bathroom in our room (only). We were thinking it might have been from the septic since we left the fan on in that bathroom, creating a negative pressure. :confused3 It's a thought anyway.

What room did you have? Where did you eat while you were there?

I have been to VB twice, and it was several years ago. I do not remember a urine smell but I do remember going to the gift shop and buying one of the Tradewinds flavored Yankee candle keeping it lit when we were in the room. That candle seemed to solve whatever it was that was unpleasant.

Did anyone report these foul odors to management??? I myself would think if they are continuing, that they need to be addressed by them. :wizard:

We stayed ina 2bdrm in August. There was a dehumidifier in the room. It did smell musty and I kept telling my family that it was probably because of the hurricane. Now I'm worried because we're heading back this August....guess the beauty of the resort over ruled the odor.

Thanks for reporting, other than the bathrm sounds like a good trip.

We just returned from a VB trib in an OV inn room. There was a dehumidifier running in the room, but we didn't notice a smell. The sound was so loud from it, that we unplugged it for our entire trip. We replugged it in when we were leaving. We never noticed a smell anywhere in the room including the bathroom. My DH and DS have a very sensitive nose - nothing gets past them and they never complained about a thing.

This year I was in room 2227. I asked for a high floor because I have always had fourth floor, but they said rooms were pre-assigned, and since the resort was at capacity, I didn't quibble. As it turned out, the room was a in really good location toward the north end of the Inn building. I ate my first night at Shutters, which is now taking the Disney Dining Experience discount card. That was a nice surprise! I also ate at Capt. Hiram's and Squid Lips, which were both good.

How does the pool rehab look? Any changes? Is it done? I kind of miss the water basketball. The putt putt is often in need of repair. I really miss the playground that was near the put put area. That was a great jungle jim for kids to play on if it was too cold to swim. Hope that returns, it was a nice resort feature.
