Drove in this morning after spending the week at Jambo house in a studio. this was our first time at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We had two studio's. The first five nights we stayed in room #5206 as a savanah view and then moved the last two nights to #5122 a value view studio. I have to say that both looked over the sunset savanah, however, I liked the view from the value view much better. The tiny bit smaller room was really not a huge factor for us. My father-in-law had his own studio and was never much further than two or three doors away.

Overall, we really loved the resort. My DD10 loved the campfire stories and night vision binoculars. I loved the lush greenery and themeing of the resort. The drums were a little bothersome at night since we were located in 5th floor lobby area, but we didn't hear them when we changed rooms.

The one thing that really bothered me about the resort was the bell service and check-in. When we pulled up to check in, there were a few cars and a cast member came up to ask us if we wanted to valet park. We said no, we were checking in and he then proceeded to jump from vehicle to vehicle and pulled them up, leaving us literally behind about 4 vacant cars. No other cast member came to us until I had starting putting our luggage from our car parked behind several other empty parked cars (Waiting for valet parking) onto the area in front of the entry doors. I had the car almost completely unloaded. I then grabbed a trolley and started to put all our luggage on that when a cast member finally came over to hand me a ticket for the cart full of luggage. No welcome homes, nothing....

I then proceeded to check-in and was told my DD10 had her own room. I tried to explain to the check-in cast member that no her and I were in one room and my DFIL was in the other. The cast member said that I had it wrong. I finally took the room keys and showed him who was who and that she is only 10 and cannot be in her own room. It took a while but he finally understood and changed the room keys and rooms around. At this point, I felt a little annoyed and just wanted to get to our rooms. Luckily they were ready and off we headed.

This experience will not change how I feel about the resort, we really liked it. But really feel improvement is definitely needed. Even when we changed rooms, we moved our own luggage, Bell service was just not that user friendly nor were the check-in cast members.

Concierge on the other hand, particularly Ryan was outstanding. Everytime I needed something, they were on the ball and were able to accomodate me. My DD had burned her hand on my curling iron and we went to the store for burn cream, not luck, they told us to go to the front desk and ask. We did and were told that they were all out. We then went to concierge and Ryan actually went to the Kitchen and got some burn gel for my DD. I am certainly going to write to Disney about how truly appreciative I was of his true geniuine concern and willingness to go above and beyond. Thank you Ryan!

Parks were busy, but we went slow and enjoyed. Boma was exellent. And we had a great time.

Just thought I would share....

I agree about the view from that area of value studios. I was in #5120 and thought it was the greatest view, better than the view from my savanah studio a few years ago. Did you request a savanah view value studio or were you just very lucky?

Glad you had a great trip. Next year im going on a family trip and we are going to have to rent 5 value studios. Are they really that small. Each room will have at most 2 adults and a child 5 or under. If you have any picture of the room i would love to see them. Just a little nervous about size, we have stayed in the BLT studio and it can be much smaller than those.

I've got some pictures of a value studio. IMO, they won't be too small for the people you have-

Thanks for the pictures of the value studio. I've tried to book the value studio at the 7 month window several times now and have never been able to. I assume there are only a few of them and the 11 month window is important to get them (I'm a BWV and BLT owner and book standard rooms at those 2 homes at the 11 month window because I know it's nearly impossible at the 7 month window). I've tried to book during slower times like late January, early May, late September. I've tried for only a night or 2, but never been successful. I just wanted to take one on a test drive.....I'll keep trying.....but I do like that the bed is closer to the window instead of the other way around like all other studios. That was interesting.

Glad you enjoyed your stay! We are BLT owners and have stayed at AKV for our previous two trips and on our most recent in Sept did a split between BLT and AKV. We were surprised at how much more we liked AKV. It's so warm and welcoming. We've done 2 stays in a value studio and didn't notice a huge space difference from other studios, of course it's just DH, me and our DD (2). I'm sure when the new one gets here we'll want all the space we can get!

Keep trying as your trip gets closer! We booked BLT and decided to extend our stay when it was time to book the airfare. I called in July for our Sept trip and was able to get a value studio for 3 nights! I was shocked to say the least.

thanks for the review, we are staying in a value studio next week. Quick question as this is our first dvc stay are there plates/bowls/silverware in the room? Thanks!

Wanted to mention that studios only have paper and plastic plates/bowls/spoons/knife/forks. You will get real mugs and glasses, hand-can openner, and cork screw. We always pack a small paring knife in our checked luggage and a small cutting board.

We spent a week at Kidani in October and really enjoyed the property. Kidani is much quieter than Jambo House and our 9 year old son really enjoyed the savannah view and the pool.

Agreed. I love the peace and quiet of Kidani, and feel their CMs are among the best. Not to mention that the studio bathrooms are the best! Once you try Kidani, there's really no going back.

That may be because they are not Cast Members, but rather an outsourced service. One of the cutbacks.

To clarify: valet is outsourced, deluxe/DVC bell services are not (per the bell services folk at VWL this last august). However, bell services at the value resorts are outsourced. Not sure about the Moderates.

I asked Bell services at AKV about this.. They said Disney Cast Members bring your luggage from holding to your room, but the outsourced folks move it from your car to holding.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your AKV stay, The value rooms are great and a tremendous point saver.

We have stayed at Jambo once in a value 1 br and have stayed at Kidani several times. Kidani gives much more of a DVC feel, And the front desk and bell services staff are great there.

But we would stay in Jambo gladly.

Ah, OK, I never used the car to storage folk before since I usually arrive by ME and bring it to the station myself. Good to know.

Ick33, glad you enjoyed Jambo. Those drums do get loud, but the rooms down the hallways are beautifully quiet. The concierge person, was it up in concierge, or the desk down in the lobby? Either way, it sounds like you finally found the person to go to. ;)
