JUST BACK - The good, the bad, and the ugly.... :( :)

This is the second recent thread about "I had stuff stolen out of my stroller." Either keep everything on you or have your sent to guest services. I'm not sure you can stop people from stealing. Jeepers, how bold!

There was small stuff that you would normally not send to guest services (pirate swords, lanyards, etc). Stuff that your kids wear around the park. Sure, I should have stuff sent to guest services, but it doesn't excuse people from stealing, especially from kids.

I dont intend to sound mean about this, but why on earth would you leave a BIG disney bag, obviously filled with 'goodies' unattended in your stroller? That's just asking for someone to take it.

It's sad that it was taken, but I don't see how it was Disney's fault.

it was not disney's fault. We never asked them to do anything about it. The Stroller CM simply called security to have it reported and that is all we were expecting, to simply report it.

As for the bag, it was in a disney double stroller behind a backpack. They moved the backpack to get to it. Other items were on top of the stroller, hidden under the suncover flap. Those were gone too. Bold of someone to dig like that for stuff. I assume it was someone that saw us park the stroller and knew there would be time before we returned.

Geezus. I feel sorry for what happened to anyone who had things stolen at WDW, but come on! Where do you people live? CandyLand?

Anyone from a big city, and probably even most smaller towns, knows that everything, and I mean everything, is fair game for the low-lifes that inhabit this earth.

Next time, get a clue and protect your valuables and don't expect Disney to clean up after you. This was totally your fault, your responsiblity, and your mistake. The fact that Disney took pity on you is pretty amazing, since they had absolutely no obligation to protect you from your own carelessness.

Be sure to take that marvelous attitude with you to WDW and share those comments with everyone else that leaves things on their strollers, all several thousand of them.

Let me ask you this. If you had an kid, say 1yr old, in diapers, and therefore lugged around a diaper bag with you all day, where would you put that diaper bag when your entire family went onto a ride together? Thats right, the stroller. Sometimes, no matter how careful you want to be, you have to leave some things behind.

I did not share this story to be insulted. I shared it to show how Disney customer service always seems to go way beyond what you would expect.

The fact that you spent your 4th post on this board insulting someone else is just sad.

If you managed to get the names of the CMs that helped you, please, write a letter congratulating them, so they can be officially recognized.

Yes, we make it a point every trip to make a note of the names of the CM's that we feel go the extra mile to make our stay even better, and we always contact disney with those stories.

We have done it before - either taken the bag with us, or one person didn't ride. Thousands of people go to Disney parks every day with small children, and don't leave their items behind.

I was with you on this thread until now - whatever happened to taking personal responsibility? You made an error in judgement. You created a scenario in which you were taken advantage of.

Was it a nice thing which happened? No. But ultimately, you were the one who left your items the items for someone to take, displaying a lack of judgement.

Now I am quite certain that you or someone else will leap on me for saying that, but if this had happened anywhere else in the world several people would have said it by now.

Leaving items of value unattended anywhere is not wise. In this instance you were lucky that they were replaced. But being angry with people who pointed out your lack of judgement really isn't fair either.

unless I missed something, I NEVER said that it was not my fault that I left the items behind. I never blamed anyone else. Not sure why that is a common theme.

Look around any park, tons of strollers and many, well more than 50% of them are loaded with all kinds of items. Many people prefer to ride as a family than stay back and guard a diaper bag, etc.

That being said, my camera never leaves me. The camera could be replaced, but not the photos in it. As for the bag, I could have replaced those items, so I guard them less. (yup, still my fault :) )

We have 5 kids, ages 3 - 11, so lets be honest, I spend more time in WDW trying to keep track of those 5 kids than anything else :)

Again, this thread was not meant as a "hey, I'm a vacationing moron, look what I did", it was meant as a kudos to disney and a reminder as to why we all here chose to vaction there so much :)

yet another example of why we go to WDW every year. while we have never had anything stolen, how WDW handled the situation was first class! there is nowhere else we have been that takes care of their guests like WDW.

I feel for ya, OP. It's amazing how quickly these threads can go sour. I do appreciate your story - you were lucky and you know it! Disney was good to you and you wanted to share your excitement.
We've left just about everything on our stroller at one time or another, and we've been lucky. Our "baby" is a teen now so there's less baggage (not, of course, counting emotional baggage :rotfl: ) for a day in the parks.
At my DD's private school, there was a rash of calculator thefts. The school found someone selling them on Ebay (they cost over $100) and tracked down the student who was stealing them. When they brought the kid and his parents in, the kid says, "What's the big deal? They can all afford to replace them." When the parents AGREED with this sentiment, the kid was expelled.
I suspect the "they can afford it" attitude might be behind some of these thefts of light sabers and other toys. Someone probably just wanted them for their own kid.

Wow, can people stop attacking the OP and take this story for what it is--Exceptional WDW customer service? OP didn't blame anyone and didn't deny fault for the theft IMHO
Sad that you lost your souvenirs but wow, what a great feeling to know WDW came through so you wouldn't have a horrible memory of WDW.
I left stuff on my stroller too--including some souvenirs--and never worried about it being stolen. I will be sure to send merchandise to my room from now on without exception or to package pickup.

Ugh! That is great that you had your receipts and that WDW handled it the way they did.

It never ceases to amaze me as to what people will steal and sometimes it is just for the thrill of doing so and not for any monetary gain. We had a nephew's autograph book get stolen once and have had partial used water bottles taken as well.

You can just hope that karma will come back around and bite those people on the rump and hard. :rolleyes1

Yes, leave a DIAPER bag behind, not a few hundred dollars of souvenirs.

I have kids and it's amazing what you can pack in a Walt Disney World bag...diapers, wipes, 3 changes of clothing, wallet, snacks, drinks and rain ponchos.

Sorry, but I'm not buyin' it (the excuses). No sympathy here.

I can't help but smile when you said whoever steals from children at WDW should be taken to a back MK alley and beaten senseless by the goofy police! Well put and nothing could be more true! It sounds like you had a wonderful trip! The way your situation was handled is probably the #1 reason we return to WDW year after year and it's their service. The CMs will bend over backwards to ensure every guest has a wonderful experience!

Did I ask for sympathy? Mickey ears (times 5 kids mind you), etc. We didn't lose super-expensive things, just a bunch of small items. The bag was about the size of twice that of a typical walmart bag.

Its pretty sad how many here are assuming I am blaming disney for the theft or that it is someone else's fault. I am simply stating what happened as so many of us leave things on the strollers.

We NEVER asked for disney to do anything about it. We would not expect them to. How would it be disney's fault? The fact that disney did what they did is a testament to their customer service.

Whats more sad is in this post there are more attacks on me than there are to the theif himself! Its appalling that I even have to defend myself with this. Been on this board for several years, and this is the 1st time I've been personally attacked on here.

I goto WDW to spend time with my family. If I had to miss out on that cause I was guarding a bag, that would be sad. Even if I had to replace the $200 or so worth of stuff myself, I would not trade that for the time I spent with my kids on all those attractions that day.

As for being brought to the park entrance, that is fine. But, for those of you with kids, you know how it goes. At 9am they want the mickey ears, by 2pm, they are done wearing them, so you're stuck carrying them around. Sure, I can make each kid be responsible and carry around their own stuff, but lets be realistic, those of us with kids know the odds of the kids losing the stuff during the day outweighs the risk of it being swiped from the stroller, lol :)

Seriously though, each one of us at some point let down our guard at WDW, so enough on the attacks already. I don't blame anyone for the bag being taken.

This once again proves that the best things at disney seem to happen when you don't ask for them or don't expect them to happen. Thats Disney

Its so true. You always hear of people going a vacation somewhere and something bad happens, and thats all there is to the story. In my case, because we were at disney, disney made sure our story had a happy ending.

This always gives me another reason when people ask me why we vacation every year at WDW.

Glad you had a great trip with the family jdb and that everything worked out with the stolen items being replaced.

I definetely cannot understand what people must be thinking to steal someones things like that! Especially when children are involved... But i am amazed at how Disney handled your situation! How awesome!! Hope you had a great tip, and happy holidays! :goodvibes

and to the PP, you should not have to worry about others stealing your things while you are tending to your children and taking them on a ride... i do not even have children, but i know it's tough to watch parents juggle 20 things at once, and then who wants to lug around all of their belongings on a ride? What a very rude comment to someone who was just sharing their experience... As another poster said, you are relatively new to the boards, and just so you know, this is not a place to criticize others!

hear hear:thanks: I couldn't agree more

Sorry to hear of your misfortune but great that Disney came through for you. Not passing judgment, but it is sad that you cannot leave anything alone, even at WDW. My bet would be (unsupervised???) juveniles were involved in the theft.
