It was a short trip, but well worth it. I'm finally getting better with the flying. Since 9/11 I've flown 4 times round trip from NYC...I never had that problem before...
Anyway, on a lighter note...
It was me, DH, DD 8, DS 6. We arrived late on Wed. the 18th and stayed off-site at the Comfort Suites on Sand Lake BLVD. DH now calls it the Discomfort Suites!! He didn't sleep much that night.
Thursday morning we checked into Wilderness Lodge. I was glad we had switched our ressie to here from BoardWalk which we usually stay in the summer. Wilderness Lodge is my favorite place on Earth I think. It is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen, and I consider myself quite worldly. This is our third stay at WL but it still takes my breath away, especially with all the christmas decorations.
Anyway, since this is the restaurant boards, I'll get to the reviews, or I may be typing all night (and I could certainly go on and on about how much I love it there).
We didn't do any real gourmet dinners...no uncleromulus we didn't make it to Artist Point, we just were too busy...maybe in July I hope!
I will use my standard rating system:
10- everything perfect...food, service, atmosphere (very rare)
9- excellent, almost perfect
7-8- very good, overall great experience
5-6- mediocre, might not return
3-4- bad, not returning
1-2- should close this place down!!!
Thursday 12/19
Spent the day at MK, went back to the room, napped and came back for MVMCP (which was WONDERFUL). This was the hottest day of the trip...I think it got up to 80.
Dinner, Liberty Tree Tavern
I thought the food here was pretty good, but we came here mostly for the character interaction and holiday atmosphere. The food is family-style. We were served salad with strawberry vinegarette which we had seconds of. Next we were served a platter of turkey, ham, flank steak and stuffing and sides of veggies and mashed potatoes. We didn't eat much of the ham, mostly the turkey which I thought was ok. The mashed and the veggies were my favorite. Dessert was a Boston Creme CAKE not the traditional pie, which I prefer, but this was pretty good. The characters were great as usual. Surprisingly, even on a MVMCP night the place didn't appeared booked, so the characters came around twice. There was goofy, minnie, chip and dale and pluto.
Overall rating: 6 1/2, would do it again maybe for the holidays, but otherwise I think just a one time experience. No regrets though, glad we did it once.
Friday, 12/20
Breakfast, Whispering Canyon
It rained in the morning so we decided to have breakfast in the lodge, hoping it would pass. By the time we were done it was sunny and it ended up being a GORGEOUS day!!!
DH and I got the all-you-can eat skillet which had scambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon, waffles, biscuits w/ sausage gravy and breakfast bread (don't even THINK about fat grams right now). It was darn right delicious. Uncleromulus, I know you had bad eggs here, but mine were cooked perfectly...maybe you got a bad batch. However it was as loud as you said...but we LIKE that as you know! We had a good time, and yes, asked for ketchup!!! The kids both had pancakes and nearly cleaned their plate!
Overall rating: 7 1/2 for the food and fun.
Well will continue...DH and I have some after-christmas sales to attend to !!!
