Just Back - Obsevations from this Trip

How many people were in your log? When we went on Splash Mountain it was my hubby in the front, my daughter (4) second, and me third. None of us got soaked. DH got the most wet of course but we put on our hoodies after and were fine.

Oh, it was a full log. As I mentioned, my friend is a bigger fella too, so that probably didn't help. It still sounds like it didn't used to do that, so I wish they could tone it down a bit.

I agree about Splash Mountain. I have been soaked several times, to the point that I don't want to ride it anymore. I seem to have the bad luck of sitting in the wrong seat every time. Sometimes I'll be the only one that got soaked. Not fun if it's raining out or it's not a hot day.

Hmmmm. We love splash. Is this something that is fairly new? I'm 6 ft 6 inch and 285. Should I take the back to try and save our boat?

It doesn't seem to make a difference whether the log is full or whether it's just DH and me -- we really get much wetter ( yep, the "wave effect"!) now since the refurb. DH is much bigger than I am, and it does help if I'm in the front of the log, but we still notice the difference. So Splash rides are saved for rainy days (and we've been riding often this winter -- especially since CMs allow repeat rides on rainy days -- I think 4 in a row is our limit right now) when we're wearing all our rain gear anyway. Waterproof jackets, rain pants, rain boots? Bring on the waves!

The only Splash my DH and I had been on before was WDW's.. so this past October when we went on Splash at DL for the first time we were thinking "okay we'll get a little splashed, I've heard this version actually gets you wet.. " Big mistake. My Minnie ears were floating around the boat because they'd come loose from my backpack and the ears drenched in water. My shoes were sitting in the super high puddle. When I finally got to take my shoes off I dumped a couple loads of water from my shoes. We honestly thought it was funny. My ride photo has me shutting my eyes because I was sitting in the front and I knew that the water cannons were gonna be brutal. Next time we go, we'll do ponchos and flip flops but it really surprised me how wet we got! Fun times though, I dried off soon enough and my ears recovered.

Interesting notes on Splash. We're first timers going in May. Would we be best off trying to ride this right before leaving for the day? We do this for the water rides at Universal Orlando so that we can head back to our resort right after, and not have to walk around with wet underwear and shoes all day! Does it get you that wet where we should plan for this?

If we should consider doing this last so that we can go back and change, do Splash fast passes typically run out early? Or is the standby line usually manageable?

As far as the shop talk, It wasn't anything too bad, and I wouldn't want to really complain about it (in fact one CM was really trying to do something nice for another). I just feel like that wouldn't have happened within earshot of guests at WDW.

I just need to comment about this because it happens at WDW just as much as at DL. In fact, I see it MORE at WDW in general...all those CP kids are constantly gossiping and chatting with each other in front of guests.

This idea that WDW somehow this sacred place where cast members are always 100% "on" and fully committed to "the show" is ridiculous.

The drenching at Splash caught us a bit off guard! I had a poncho on, but the person in front of me did not. She had to go back to the hotel to change. She could have rolled with a little wet, but this wet was a whole body splash. Not the experience of my youth.

Edited to add photo. I just realized I had one of that fateful ride. I’m in pink!

It isn't necessarily that consistent -- you will probably get wet, but not always get soaked enough to need to change clothes. But, if you like riding Splash repeatedly (FP, SR, etc.), then I would save it for last so that you can get soaked without fear! If you want to ride earlier in the day, then prepare by wearing ponchos and flip flops so that you won't have to return to the hotel to change.

Thanks! How are wait times and fast pass availability, generally speaking? Priority one?

two years ago in Splash Mountain, I didn't get any water on the first and second drop. On the third drop, I got a little bit. It was a full log and I was at the very back.

I just remembered one observation from my trip that I found odd and puzzling:

  • I had never been in the Main Street Cinema - whet's with all the kids just laying around in there, taking naps and stuff? I referred to them as "vagabond children of Main Street." I dunno, it wasn't what I expected.

I’ve never seen that! We were last in there about two weeks ago. There are sometimes children running around and shrieking - last time, a few of them had those foam swords and shields and were fighting up on the platform. The benches in there are fairly new, and it’s an indoor escape from the weather, in the dark, so maybe they’ve encouraged nappers?

My daughter developed a fondness for the “Mickey cartoons” at a young age (she and I once rope-dropped and ended up with that as our first stop... I quit asking her what she wanted to do first after that.) I’ve been pleased by the benches but maybe they’ll remove them if they turn it into vagabond-land.

Mostly it was younger teens and they were laying about on the raised area in the center. It was like a little camp. I can't say if any were actually sleeping. I don't really have a problem with it, it just seemed odd and kinda funny. I think they go there because there is no supervision.

Ha! I love how only your nose and mouth are exposed. Nice coverage!
