Just Back! My thoughts on the parks...

My DW and I just had 3 fun-filled days at the Disney parks (July 9-11). This was the first time we have gone with less than 2 years between visits. We had just been there in November. It was also our first weekend trip. We had a blast, even though we were only there for 3 days. Here are a few random thoughts.

We normally go to WDW in the fall. So the 95 degree weather was definitely a shock to our system. However, we've mastered the knack of traversing the park by walking through the air-conditioned shops.

The lines were longer than what we are used to, but they were not excessively long. The longest line we were in took us about 30 minutes (Living with the Land). I have to admit that it was good to see long lines at classic attractions like Spaceship Earth. I remember going to "EPCOT Center" in the 1980's and seeing the line for SE snaking around and around the geosphere. The lines were back on this trip. When we go in the fall, lines for SE are nonexistent. And, while I enjoy just hopping on, it always makes me a little melancholy than nobody seems to want anything less than a "thrill-a-minute" attractions anymore.

The sight of the "Soarin" building was spectacular. You can get an idea of its size by climbing up the stairs in Canada to the landing on the level of the Hotel du Canada. It is a MONSTROSITY!!! We've been to DCA and been on Soarin' there, but it looks so much bigger at WDW. I think someone posted that at DLR, they were able to bury much of the attraction in the ground, but at WDW, with the swampy ground, this was not possible. I don't know if this is true or not, but that bulding is HUGE! Another good spot to view it is on the other side of World Showcase Lagoon, say in Germany.

We noted that some attractions are definitely in need of updating/refurbishing. For example, don't look too closely at the theatre chairs in France. The upholstery has basically worn out. It's such a beautiful film and theatre, it deserves to have the seats reupholstered.

This was our second ride on the new JII with Figment. OK, it's not as good as the original, but it is soo refreshing to be able to sing along with the old song! I still miss Dreamfinder, however.

This trip, even though it was 95 degrees, we did walk from the Studios to Epcot. It took about 25 minutes, walking at a relatively slow pace. We beat the boat by a long shot.

We had an excellent safari at AK. This time, a giraffe came right up to our truck! And a couple of antelope walked right in front of the truck.

Finally, one godsend on a 95 degree day: Ice Station Cool! Beverly never tasted so good! By the way, a woman came up with her fresh cup and headed straight for Beverly. I didn't say a word. It was so funny to watch her expression as she poured it in her mouth! Actually, I kind of like Beverly.

That's it for now, until I remember some more!

Thanks for the great and candid report. Makes me want to go so much sooner. . .

:wave2:

Glad you had a great time. We're off tonite!!! I'm so excited to see my niece and nephews expressions, their first time there!!!! Ages 7 and 11!!!

Welcome home and thanks for the review! Its nice to hear the lines are manageable. And what a great tip to check out Soarin.
I didnt think the Beverly was bad either...until the aftertase kicked in! :scared1: ;)
Glad you had a good trip! :D

Thanks for the report! I was thinking of taking advantage of low airfares and trying to squeeze in 3 days at the end of September. This would be the first time we've been there twice in a year.

Did you stay on-site? I'm hoping there are some good codes out there for September.

Thanks for the report and welcome home!

Thanks for the info!!! Sounds like you had a great time. We leave in 3 days. We are huge Figment lovers and miss Dreamfinder too!!! :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the report. I agree that some general maintenance needs to be done. On our last trip I thought that alot paint touch ups were needed.

Not quite on-site...we stayed at the Dolphin. My thread about our stay there is located here

Wow! Thanks for the link! It sounds like you had an absolutely 'magical' stay. I'm so jealous!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the trip report, I have friends there now. I guess somebody has to like Beverly (it is definately not Me!!) (yuk):D

I am embarassed to say - I don't know what Beverly is! Care to share?

Beverly is a soft drink made by Coca Cola. It is found in the Ice Station at the soft drink area. I think that it has the country of Italy on it. Don't get me wrong, I think that every one should at least "try" it. It is definately not the "real thing" in my book!! Enjoy!!

Thanks - I think I will try it in August... at least for the experience!

I also like rides such as Spaceship Earth. I remember those extremely long lines of the past. On my last 3 trips, Spaceship Earth was a walk-on. People who enjoy these kinds of rides need to make it a point to never skip them in order to show Disney that some people still appreciate those kinds of rides. Too often some members of a family are so busy running for the thrill rides that the rest of the group doesn't get to ride the rides that they want to ride. Then the execs at Disney see lines a mile long for the thrill rides & the others have short lines. The next thing you know they are tearing these kinds of rides down to make thrill rides. Two examples are Horizons & World of Motion.
