We arrived at about 4 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 1st. Not only wasn't there any cars on the aisle, but none in the full size section (which we had reserved). Thus began my trek to find a National Employee. After finding 2 that spoke no English (there was no one in the booth either). I found a not-so-pleasant lady sitting in the passenger seat of a car with the door opened. I asked her if she worked for National and she just stared at me and didn't answer. I assumed she was though, or she was just crazy about green shirts, so I told her that there were no vehicles on the aisle and no full size vehicles. She told me "just wait." By the time I got back to the aisleway and waited, still nothing happened so I just chose an intermediate (Mitsubishi Eclipse which ended up being fine).
Check out was quick and easy however, they took my coupons and just let me go. Check in was even easier, took under 2 minutes. They charged me $1.22 for gas which, by California standards, is an absolute bargain.
I would rent again from them based on the ease of just walking out and avoiding the counter, but would probably only rent an intermediate. I do think its a shame that their service is so terrible, especially considering their are DW's "official" car rental company. They should have someone there to help those arriving at the airport.
