Dh, ds and I are just home from a week at the VWL. We did MNSSHP on 10/31 (fun but crowded; we felt they were much stingier with candy this year than last) and park-hopped the other days. We did a lot of fun things, and Philharmagic and Wishes are not to be missed! :D

The first few days of our trip (10/29 - 10/31) were fine -- busy, but not overly crowded. However, on 11/01, WDW became an absolute zoo. The infamous "Jersey Week" had begun, earlier than we'd anticipated.

From that point on, the crowds were the worst we'd ever experienced. There were huge lines at the WL boat dock every morning. All the rides had long waits. Just moving around in the parks was difficult. And everyone we talked to (or overheard) said they were "down from New Jersey". I mean *everyone*.

I actually had an at-length conversation with a woman from New Jersey while we waited on the WL boat dock one morning. I said, "What is it that makes all of you come here at one time????" She said that they were vacationing for 2 weeks and her kids were only missing 4 days of school. I said, "Yes, but why do you all come HERE????" She said," Because it's the best!"

I couldn't argue with that of course, but it definitely made our trip the least enjoyable one we've taken. Never again will we visit WDW during Jersey Week -- it really *is* as crowded as they say it is. :(

Jersey week is really not any different than when everyone else has spring break.
Of course, everyone wants to go to Disney on their break. New Jersey people are just the same, only they go in the fall instead of the spring.
I certainly can't blame them for going. I would do the same.
Actually we are on our way to Disney tomorrow, I wonder if most of the New Jersey people will be on their way back home this weekend?

I'm not "blaming" them for going, just saying I'll never go again during that particular time frame because it's too crowded for us to enjoy. We don't go to Disney during spring break for the same reason.

My two DDs like to listen to Playhouse Disney on Radio Disney. Every day, BB says hi to the fans and tells you who is visiting from where. Well, this week it seems that everyone she mentions is visiting from New Jersey!

We hit Jersey week two years ago. We arrive at WDW Monday and we are hoping that the crowds thin out from Jersey as well as Super Soap!

Wow - thanks for the heads up! Another factor is probably that Nov. 1st was the first day of "value" season - combined with the Fairytale Package & Jersey Week, and Super Soap Weekend and the Food & Wine Festival and the Festival of Masters.........

need I say more!!

I too am a little nervous, as it seems that EVERYTHING is booked up, we arrive on Sunday - plan on checking out AKL and all it has to offer, might check out the Food & Wine, to try to avoid the SSW crowds. I know that in NH, many schools have this Mon & Tues off due to teacher's workshops & Veteran's Day, so we will only be missing 3 days of school - that's why we chose this week!

We leave on Tues Nov.11, so when does the "jersey week" end? Please fill me in! Thanks!
I'm pretty sure you'll be arriving after. It was my understanding that this week (starting 11/03) was the main week for folks from New Jersey to be off. Hope you have a great trip with low crowds and nice weather!

We were there during that same time and remarked that there didn't seem to be as many people as other trips. I went the same time last year and it was more crowded than this year.

I would't hesitate to take a trip this time of year because of Jersey week.

Teachers convention in NJ is Today (11/07/03) and yesterday. Therefore I believe that most people were probably down there this past week. The only exception would be that some schools have off monday as well for Veterans Day so people might be taking a 5 day weekend that way.

As for why all the NJ people go there... think about it. The kids have off from school and it's actually low season in Disney - how often does that happen? Every other time the kids are off everyone in the country is and so everyone in the country is there.

Also, when on a Keys to the Kingdom tour while on our honeymoon (consequently it fell over teacher's convention) the cast member told us that a majority of their guests were from NJ and NY. I guess when you're used to the fast paced lifestyle that comes from living in the NY metro area a jammed packed disney trip is just par for the course.

I have 2 friends who are down this week with their families. We're heading down in early December-- supposedly the quietest time at Disney. I'd rather take my kids out of school than deal with the crowds (we're going for 5 days, and they are only missing 3 days of school)

It's precisely because I'm from this crowded place (NJ) that I want to avoid all that stuff on vacation!
