We just got back - we loved Disney again - but MGM seemed not so good for kids. Does anyone else feel this way? I have 2 daugters 4 and 1, and the 4 year old wanted to ride rides - some rides, any ride. Any with the great movie ride closed, it was kind of a bummer. (Even with that its not really a fun ride ride.) She like the Bear in the Big Blue house, and "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Little Memaid" and "Muppets". But I really think they need to add a kids' ride section - maybe with some movie themed kids rides. Just some rides like Dumbo, or a carousel, or a tea cup type, or something ... Otherwise we will skip MGM next time and go to Sea World. (At least until our kids are older and can ride RnR and ToT.)

On a positive note - Animal Kingdom has really improved in 2 years. The Dinoland section is awesome for kids - they loved the dino (kind of like dumbo) ride. And my older daughter got on Kali RR and the safari and the shows Festival of the Lion King and the Bird show were great. I have to say Animal Kingdom has passed MGM on my list (partly because I have seen everything in MGM).

Magic Kigdom and Epcot were awesome as usual.

I totally agree with you. At first I wasn't sure if it was just the timing of when we went to MGM that made it seem not so great, or what. On Monday we had a great day at AK and Tuesday was awesome at MK but on Wednesday when we went to MGM, my kids were the same way as yours, just wanting to ride rides. They just weren't that interested in seeing shows. My 8yo rode RNRC and we all rode Star Tours, but that was it. Besides that, we all liked Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast and Millionaire. We were all ready to go home around 2:00...it felt like a big let down. If I had to make a choice, MGM would be a park I would be able to skip seeing next time.

Cool, nice to know someone agrees. We also did MGM last - maybe it was a let down after the other parks? Maybe we should have done it earlier but we always start with MK :) You are lucky your son could ride RnR, my daughter who is 4 could not ride RnR and she didn't get upset, but she talked about it (like "Daddy and Mommy rode the car" (she called it that, because the entrance had an upside down car) "but the man said I wasn't tall enough"). She could ride TOT though - but DIDN'T - of course. What kind of planning is that - a really scarry ride (I mean realllly scarry ride) that a 40 inch tall could get on?? But the roller coaster is 48 inches - duh?? So she didn't ride either.

She did like Bear ok, and Little Mermaid, but the park needs more - I hope they add more - they are really adding nicely to Animal Kingdom.

Dave,

We were there in May and I feel the same way you do. I have a six year old daughter and she was ready to leave because there was just nothing for her to do. We did the Fantasmic dinner package so we got there around 10am our dinner reservations were for 5:30pm, we were all ready to leave by 3pm. We did everything we wanted to do, there was just not anything to keep us there but we thought it was pretty foolish to leave since our reservations were for 5:30pm. I probably would not do MGM next time unless they add different attractions.

We always use MGM as our "show" park and not a "ride" park. We really enjoy all the shows. Actually, MGM is quickly replacing MK as our favorite park. None of us can stand the crowds at MK. We only go to appease our youngest DS who is 4. He really enjoys MGM as well though. He loves the Indiana Jones show, Muppet 3D, Mermaid, the playground.

MGM is also my kids' (both age 7) least favorite park. They enjoyed Indiana Jones, but they're past the Bear in the Big Blue House Stage and not brave enough for TOT or RnRC. The Great Movie Ride was also down when we were there. People always talk about AK not having enough shade, but I thought MGM had a lot less shade. We enjoyed visiting the MGM, but spent the least amount of time there.

I love MGM, but I agree! I have a 4 yo ds. He's not into Little Mermaid or Belle. He's almost past Playhouse Disney. He doesn't care much for the Muppet movie. Plus, he's still to young for the thrill rides. Soooo, that park is kind of a bust for him! We enjoy the park, but we don't spend as long in it as we do in the others! :D

MGM is my favorite park. So when we took our 4 yr old we went on our sleep in morning got there after a late CB at Cape May went to the shows saw the parade, which is my DS favorite parade, the went to Epcot later that nite. It was one of the more relaxing days we had.

Not all Parks are created equal. Disney has to appeal to a wide demographic and not all parks can or should fill all the slots.

Magic Kingdom is kids, kids, kids. Kids of all ages. A wide variety of rides and attractions.

Epcot is a bit more "adult" in flavour. More shopping, more drinking, techno exhibits. Less "rides".

Animal Kingdom is a zoo. Some rides, some shows but its a zoo. The animals are the main attraction here.

MGM is a "studio backlot". Some rides, more shows. More "teen-thrill ride" oriented. This is Disneys answer to Universal and seems to pattern itself on the studios in LA.

MGM is not my fav. I've been to Universal Studios in LA and don't much like it either.

Just remember the parks have seperate flavours, they are what they are and that doesn't mean including everything in each park. If that was the case, why have choices?
