WOW !!!! Great store !!! Radio Disney was there broadcasting live, and .... THEY HAVE PARK MERCHANDISE !!!! Theme park post cards, pins, Disney Coffee... many of the items that they sell in the "World of Disney" store in WDW.

Living in NYC, I went to the "old" 55th street store many times. Basically, the store looks the same on the first two floors (except for the merchadise being sold- they now have an entire candy section in the 1st floor!! ) The layout basically looks the same. The 3rd floor is an interactive area. Layout looks basically the same as the Gallery that was located on the 3rd floor previously, but now they have computers and interactive games.

The CM's trade pins, which is pretty cool, and they were handing out free "Aladdin" lanyards, that came with two great pins !!!

Overall, the store is great !!!

Oh, and they had "The Incredibles" shirts for adults !!!

I'll be in NYC next month and will definitely make a stop.
I may not mention the fact about the pins to my husband
(he is a huge collector)!

Thank you for the info! I'm going next Saturday. I have to come to work (34th ST.), so to walk up 5th Ave. will be my reward to myself. Can't wait!

1) That's great !
2) What a novel idea !
3) Sell park stuff at a store, instead of cheap plushes.
4) I wish they would have done this before.
5) It could have saved the Disney Stores from a sale.

Wow, I just got back also. Wonderful store. I wanted to buy everything. Got some NY pins and a Opening Day pin and a great NYC Disney shirt. I am planning on stopping by there quite often. They even had watches - the good ones and add-a-links. We're heading down to Disney for Thanksgiving and I plan on wearing some of my WOD NYC things.

I stopped in today. I wasn't impressed at all. Its great to have the store re-opened so I can get a quick Disney fix, but personally I was underwhelmed.

Hi

I was wondering if they sold any furniture or room decor items. Last time I was in disney world I bought a sweatshirt blanket and I want to get more.

Also- did they have theme parks t-shirts?

Anyone have any pics

thanks

Oh, I wish I lived a bit closer! I'd go very often!

I would love to hear more reviews or pictures??

I'd love to hear from anyone who does the Cinderella's Court too!

I saw on Regis and Kelly this morning that Kelly went and took her 2 younger kids to meet Cinderella. She showed a couple of photos.

I'm jealous!

Finally i can by park stuff and not lug it home from florida! (well i have to take an 2 hour bus ride home.)

DH visited new store today since he works in NYC. He said that the interior of the store had not changed much. He found quite a few items that were produced specifically for the NYC store. He brought home a Statue of Liberty Minnie NYC tote bag (cute, cost $24), two smaller wrist purses which had WOD NYC printed on them and covered in clear sequins(look much better than it sounds). They were $14 each. A NYC photo album with Mickey on it ($12), NYC street scene postcards with the Fab Four superimposed ($5 for 5 cards). They are about 5 by 7 and would be cute framed. A NYC shot glass with a hidden Mickey cut into the NYC ($6). A couple of NYC pins, WOD NYC sign with Mickey ($6.50) and Mickey on Wall Street ($8.50). T- shirts were about $28. He said that the third floor had quite a few collectibles but he didn't have enough time to check it out (lunch hour and it was crowded).
They were giving away an Aladdin lanyard with two pins as you entered the store. It was the same lanyard and pin set that you received if you pre-ordered the Aladdin DVD at WDW.
He did not see the Cinderella court but there were quite a few characters around that you could take your picture with.

Where on 5th? I was just there on business, but my business takes me to NYC from time to time.

lulu71: It's on the corner of 55th & 5th.

I was at the grand opening on Tuesday but could only stay for a few minutes before I had to go to work. I went back at lunch time that day but the store was so crowded it was hard to really look around. I'm going to try again today. I want to get a Mr. Potato Head!!!

I'm going this weekend, have been dying to go since the 10/5 opening! Can't wait!!

No collectibles on the 3rd floor. It is the Princess Court room, interactive computer games, gameboy games, and a travel planning area. I met Mr and Mrs Potato Head up there, too. It is somewhat underused space, actually.

Note: The Disneystores have the SAME incredibles adult shirts, and kids shirts for at least $5 less. (actually, TDS have even more or a selection, hard to believe!)

I liked the Potato head area, with exclusive NYC pieces.

Thanks so much. We are surprising DS with a trip over today after church. I'm so excited that they have park merchandise!:hyper:

I agree. I became less impressed as I made my way up. The first floor was fun (I was glad to see that the ENTIRE floor wasn't filled with candy, as I'd wrongly thought) and the new york merchandise has definitely improved, the second floor felt kind of a-little-bit-of-everything-but-not-enough-of-anything, and the third floor was just a complete disappointment. I can't believe what a waste of space it is.

Still, I bought the Mickey Mouse cookies-and-milk glasses that I left behind at the parks on my last trip, and I was happy about those. :) (By the way, anyone buying those, be careful. I realized once I got home that they were marked $6 and I was charged $8. Too lazy to go back for the difference, though!)

Out of curiosity, what ever happened to the Disney Store smell? I used to love that smell at the parks and at the stores. Never could pinpoint what it was, though.

I was there this past Sunday and I could not believe the mess I witnessed. My 9 year old daughter went straight to Goofy's candy section and there were Gummy Worms all over the floor, those pixie sticks the kids make themselves were on the floor. It was crowded, but nothing like it will be closer to the holidays. I did not understand why it was in such disarray. As I walked near a table with folded cashmere vintage mickey shirts, I thought I was seeing things and my wife corrected me. The shirts were folded on the table with no special care some very messy and the price tags on these shirts were $320 for one shirt. I could not believe they would charge that much and the shirt wasn't even that nice. O.K. it was cashmere, but still. It should have been displayed better then just have them out in the open like that.

As I walked the rest of the store all three levels I walked out with a so-so feeling about it. It was very anticlimatic, on the one hand I like getting some of those items without going to Orlando, but on the other hand, there wasn't anything eye-popping or spectacular that makes this store stand-out.

I took a peek while the kids were meeting with Cinderalla and that looked cute, but definitely not worth what they are charging for it. I'm a native New Yorker and I'm used to high prices, but this store takes it to a new level.

I kept looking around, thinking I had missed something "great", and of course, there wasn't anything, although my daughter was floored by her visit with Lilo and Stitch (how did they get to New York Mom, did they fly on Jet Blue like us?)

Very disappointed. But it's all us New Yorkers have. All our other Disney Stores closed.

I cannot figure out what took 4 months. There are NO new installations!

No offense but wasn't building the Friendship Room on the the 3rd floor an entirely new installation? I've been there, and the third floor did not look like that at all when it was the Disney Store. That entire theater/greeting room area took the four months.

and have to agree that I too was a little underwhelmed. While it was nice to see such an assortment in one place, I couldn't help to think that some of the magic was being lost by having the "special" disney world only merchandise available somewhere other than WDW. It has always been a treat and special to go shopping while at the parks and see all of the other merchandise that I couldn't get in the stores or via the catalog. The princess room is a neat idea (Lilo and Stitch were there), I noticed that the princess experience things was limited to kids over 5 (what about the little ones?) and thought the picture prices were a bit steep (something like $25for two 4x6's). The NYC themed merchandise was neat given that the World of Disney will likely be a tourist stop like FAO was or Toys R US is. I almost think that there were some key items missing that I can find in my local (yes, still open, thank goodness) Disney Store, like a wider variety of PJ pals, etc.
