Just Back From Western 10/4-10/11

Our servers were excellent (Godwin and Marko) - they entertained the kids at our table and helped them relax. If the kids are happy - everyone is happy.

Was Marko from Serbia? If he was, we had him 9/27 - 10/4! We loved Marko!!!!

Thanks so much for posting! I am with some of the other PP and am booked for the Western on Nov.1. Yea Brent:goodvibes

What the heck is up with that rotation? Was someone drinking when they planned it? I really liked it being APLAPLA. Simple to remember!

Can't wait to go!!

Marko is from Serbia and Godwin was from India. They were great!!!

OMG!!!!!! Like I said, we LOVED Marko! The week before he was serving with Oppie, but Oppie got off the ship when we did! Wait until I tell my DF and my future DMIL that you had Marko! :)

I've read a few reports that the magic was terrible after having come out of dry dock:sad2: One person even canceled their next cruise because they were so disgusted at the condition of their room & food service, & the care given at the kid's club.
How do you feel about what has been done? We don't sail for another year, so hopefully things will have worked themselves out by then.
How was the food?
Did you go to Palo's?
How about the kid's clubs?
thanks

We also just got off the Magic on the 11th! This was our first Disney cruise and I can definately say it WILL NOT be our last. We had tonnes of fun and enjoyed every part of it. For us the best part by far was the Oceaneer's Club we have three kids 5, 3 and 1 and the older two spent as much time as possible in the club and when they weren't there they were asking to go there! I found everyone we encountered at the club to be very professional and were awesome with the kids! I also found that a small thank you can go a long way too, we dropped off some treats for the counsellors a couple of times during the week and they were more than appreciative. I never had any concerns about anything with the club in fact my dd 5 said she had some issues with some of the boys during one of her times there so I addressed it with the councellors the next time we were there and they were more than happy to let me know the stituation and that the boys who had caused the problems had been spoken to as well as their parents. The only thing I wish I had of known was that we could leave the kids in the club for excursions in port. We booked a tour in Key West (Yes, it was really hot!!!) that we would have left the kids in the club for had we known we could do that rather than pay for them to go on a tour they got nothing out of but a nap! LOL

The ship was in excellent condition and I was amazed at how much work was constantly being done like painting, cleaning, etc.

The food was very good, we dined (early) in the dining room almost every night and enjoyed the service and the food. We had Ali and Christelle and both were great and more than happy to accomodate any requests.

Our room host was awesome too (Roland) always making sure everything was taken care of and always made sure to make special surprises for the kids especially my ds 3 and I loved the fact that so many cast members got to know our names and remembered them. Again I found a small thank you went a long way, Roland was always appreciative of anything extra we left for him and he always make an effort to thank us each day. I always appreciated when people asked about the kids by name too...being that we are there for such a short time it meant alot to me for them to get to know us and our kids.

Our most favourite part of the trip was Castaway Cay I agree Disney should build a resort there I don't know that I vacation anywhere else! DH went on the deep sea fishing excursion in the AM, they caught way more fish than the guides had ever seen so it was well worth the $ for the trip. I spent the day on the beach with DD1 and the other two were in Scuttle's Cove for most of the day and swam in the ocean which they loved. Castaway Cay is an amazingly beautiful place and I can't wait to go back!

Anyways I hope all who are venturing out on the Magic in the near future have a superb trip and enjoy every minute of it because it truly is amazing!

It was ds' and my second cruise, but first for the "folks" (took my parents on this one).
They will cruise again. They aren't sure it's Disney, but they will cruise again. Unfortunately I told them that Disney's bar is set pretty high so don't be disappointed when the service and food isn't as good on another cruise line....

We had so much fun, want to book again in 2010.

Met some terrific people, had a great time, and other than a few rain showers on Grand Cayman and Cozumel, we would probably do this cruise again in October.

Brent is still the Cruise Director, and yes, he is hot.
Darren is Asst Cruise Director and he's pretty hot too....:cutie:

Anyway, much going on during the cruise, little painting here, cleaning there. Certainly didn't put us out of our Cruise plans, and was nice to see they are keeping the ship "ship shape".

Disney all the way!!!!!

Can anyone tell me whether or not you can plug a portable DVD player into the new tv's in the cabins?

Thanks...

I didn't notice anywhere to plug in, but didn't look at the back of it. They hae tons of channels playing cartoons, moies, etc 24 hrs a day. You are sure to find something for the kiddos to watch.

Can anyone tell me the schedule of themed dinners? We have a Palo ressie booked but will probably have to change it since we don't want to miss any of the special dining room dinners since It's our first cruise.

Thanks so much.

Yes, you can plug up you portable dvd to the new flat screens. I was on the Oct 4-11 Magical sailing. The hook-up is in the back of the t.v. We brought our player along with the white, yellow, and red cables and had no problem. Also, there was an electrical outlet behind the t.v. and another outlet near the dresser. No need for an extension cord.

Disney was showing so many popular movies like Iron Man, Hancock, Kung Fu Panda, along with old Disney classics, like Cinderella, plus, the Disney Channel and a classic sitcoms channel (Home Improvement, Addams Family, etc.), we hardly found time to use our dvd player. Additionally, in Disney Buena Vista Theater, first run movies were shown, like Beverly Hills Chihuahua and the new Spike Lee movie. Plus, I went to most of the shows. If breakdancers/comedians, "Seymour and Albert" are on your cruise, go see them - they are HILARIOUS!!! I saw them 3 times!!!

It was my first Disney cruise and one of the best out of 14 previous cruise on different cruise lines. Looking to do another one real soon.

My husband will be estatic. He bought my DS a special DVD that he wants to play for him and since we'll have the player for the plane he just wanted to know.

Too piggy back on this post.

We just returned from Oct. 4-11th Disney Magic. First time cruisers and we will be back in the future. You just can't get everything done that you want too. The ship was in excellent condition, our room 8066 was great. Reeda was our hostess and she worked very hard to make our stay comfortable.

Godwin and Marko were our servers and they are the greatest two guys to take care of you. The kids loved them and they catered to all our needs.

Brent is the Cruise Director and was very nice to talk too.

Excursions:

Key West - we booked the trolly tour online and it was too hot sitting on that trolley to get to the southern most point. Recommend renting a electric car or scooter there.

Grand Cayman - we did Rum Point Beach and will definitely go back. It takes about an hour to get there (15 minute bus shuttle and 40 minute ferry) but well worth it. Beautiful beach and great fish and chips. Washrooms were immaculate, water was crystal clear; very relaxing.

Cozumel - we did the Dolphineris swim. Worth every penny. I was a little worried about the organization at the beginning putting you into groups. Once in your group and in the water interacting with the Dolphins it was a great experience for our kids and me. Ended up buying the $136.00 CD/DVD package it was so good.

Castway Cay - Great beach. Snorkeling is well worth it; especially if you have kids.

Agree with other poster, would rather do two days of Castaway Key and drop Key West.

Any questions, just post and I would also be happy to respond.

Reeda was our stateroom hostess too on our Oct. 11th-18th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the report! We're sailing on the Magic's western over Christmas this year, so it's been good to read about the changes to the ship and ship activities. Our boys are 11 and 12 so they'll both be able to go to Ocean Quest.

What were the treats you gave to the counselors and your room host? I want to plan ahead. I've read about phone cards. And I think you tip at the end of the cruise.

Want to take the RED pill and go somewhere again!!!!:hippie:

modlitekrt1, My DH and I were considering renting an electric cars in Key West. We have 4 and 5 year old boys and were wondering if car seats were necessary (or required). Did you happen to notice how the little ones were secured while riding in them?

Many thanks!
