We had this once....
The doc called it "swimmers itch". and said it happened in shallow water, ocean or lake, where plenty of birds have "congregated".
The critters burrow into your skin, and if you don't towel off vigorously, they stay on you and decompose under your skin(yuch) hence the bumps and itching.
