It sounds like a reaction from medication and sunlight, the same thing happens to me if I'm in the direct sunlight too long. I'll get samll redish white bumps over my arms and legs.

WHAT IS A NO-SEE-UM? No-see-ums are tiny biting flies that often live near water. You often see many of themswarming together in a cloud. Keep your mouth shut or you might breathe some in or swallow them! (It won’t hurt you, but it will probably make you cough.) Biting midges are called no-see-ums because they’re so tiny that it is hard to see ‘um. No-see-ums are less than ¼ of an inch long.





WHERE DO NO-SEE-UMS LIVE? They often stay in shrubs or the thick layer of dead leaves that naturally covers the ground. Scrubbing your feet around in the leaves is a good way to get them stirred up. Don’t do it! Most no-see-ums never fly more than 350 feet from their breeding area, so if they’re bothering you, you might be able to get away from them by moving a few yards

WHY DO NO-SEE-UMS BITE? Only the females bite and suck blood. They need the protein in this blood to make their eggs. No-see-ums will take blood from mammals, birds, and reptiles. Male no-see-ums are nectar feeders and do not bite. While the bite is not painful, it becomes very itchy. Some people get a red spot 1-2 inches wide! Try not to scratch the bites; it makes them itch longer and can make the bites get infected. No-see-um larvae (babies) can be found in water, mud, or moist dead leaves. They especially like to live in the dying plants along the edge of a salt marsh. The larvae eat dead plant and animal matter.

HOW CAN YOU AVOID NO-SEE-UM BITES? The best way to avoid getting bitten by no-see-ums is to wear insect repellent when you are outside in the spring, summer, and fall. Also, move quickly away from the areas where they’re swarming. If you get far enough away, they won’t follow you.

if the bites are along the edges of where your clothing lies (waist line, sock line, etc) then it might be chiggers. they like to gather in the warm moist parts of the body where the clothes gather....

My daughter is 12 and I just took her to a dermatologist yesterday. She is getting a blocky, itchy rash on her face and throat after being in the sun. The doctor said that she has solar urticardia, allergic reaction to the sun, and can occur in some floresant lighting. Sunblock will not help so they put her on allegra. She is sooo upset because it last for 24 hours each time. She is worried about going to disney, the waterparks,,,,etc.
I don't know if this is what you have, but it is worth a check up...

I don't know much, but maybe it is hives? My sister gets them with only one type of cherries. She has only gotten them once, and eats cherries a lot. But it was the on strain and it gave her hives.

What a coincidence -- I just returned and I have the same rash! I'm fairly certain it's from the sun. The one day I forgot to put sunscreen on, I got the rash on the tops of my feet and on my calves. They're just now starting to fade.

I sometimes get a rash just above my sockline on my legs. It is blotchy and very itchy. It happens after I spend time walking around on the pavement at the theme parks. I notice that it happens most often right after I've shaved my legs. I think the shaving actually leaves the skin sensitive. The reflection or heat from the pavement irritates the skin.

I have come back some years from spring break with the ithchy bumps. I've been told that they are from the no-see-ums. Mosquito type things that you don't see! I never thought of the benadryl so now I'll just add that to my medicine bag. I've actually been so bad that the first aid at Epcot suggested I go to the clinic. They itch really bad and tend to come out over time not immediately like a mosquito bite. You really do not see them! One year DH got chewed at Vero -- won't go back there! But I won't give up WDW!

We just got back and my DFIL had a reaction to spray on sunblock.

Did you use anything that you don't usually use? A new product? I also had an allergic reaction. I am allergic to WISH laundry soap, which I already knew, but forgot about and I ended up with an allergic reaction. BUT it was red blotches, not bumps. It was burning and itchy, but not bumpy.

Hopefully it goes away soon.

They are red bumps mostly on my arms and legs. They're itchy and a little sore. I thought they were insect bites at first because they kind of look like mosquito bites but I have more now since I got home. Also my dh and dds don't have a bite on them. We were in the parks Saturday thru Friday and also at Ft Wilderness for the campfire/ movie Friday night and at the ocean in St Augustine Saturday. Any ideas what these might be? TIA!!!

Hmmm, since you were at the ocean they could be "ocean itch/sea lice" - not really lice but jellyfish larva that is in the ocean from March - August. You might have walked into a cluster of them - they're no bigger than a spec of pepper so you wouldn't see them.

This is exactly what happened to me on our trip in March. I only had to shave my ankle area and that is where I got the rash the next day. It was horribly painful. I figured it was from shaving & the sun. I have a hard time believing that it would be any kind of bug since I was the only one with the problem. My DH shared the bed. My DH, girls & I pretty much did all the same things otherwise.

A couple of years ago I got a severe rash around my ankles just above my socks (shorty socks), and could not understand what happened. Found out that it was from the reflection from the pavement. There was even swelling, itching, and burning that went along with it.

i got this last time i was in Florida.My nurse mum calls it prickly heat.I take green tea capsules to prevent it from happening now.I also bought something
called gold spot-very smelly cream.It did work, though it took about a week to completely calm down.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I took Benydryl twice since last night and the spots are already starting to fade and feel less itchy! Again a big thank you!!!

Did you go to the doctor? I'm sorry if I seem like an alarmist, but I also had a rash with little pimples on it and couldn't figure out what it was.
If this isn't you, maybe one day it might be someone else, so let me tell you about this: (don't want to scare you)

One time I had a staph infection so bad, my regular doctor, my dermotologist & my gynocologist couldn't figure it out. I had to take a trip to the Planned Parenthood office and the doctor who works there also works the ER. She took one look and said, oh, my God, that is a really bad staph infection. She had to prescribe the medicine they use for flesh-eating virus to clear it up.
So out of four doctors, only one diagnosed it. And because of the doctors not knowing what it was, it got much worse.

Staph infection is also little pimples or boils with a rash.

If it doesn't go away, even with the benedryl, get to the doctor. CDC did studies last year about the rise in people getting staph infections in places not even near a hospital. People are getting it because of the overuse of antibiotics. That wasn't my case, but I still got it anyway. NOT LYING - she said I got it most likely from sitting on a toilet seat with urine on it and I had a scratch and the bacteria got through.
Warm, humid environments also contribute to staph infections, and excessive sweating can increase a person's chances of developing the infection.
I've just read something on MSNBC about how the CDC is worried about the rise in non-hospital related staph infections in the general public.

I just saw a segment on tv saying that some people are allergic to sunscreens. It can cause bumps and rashes, such as many of you have described. Just an idea. I hope you feel better soon!
