We just returned from a wonderful week at Disneyworld and SSR. The room was ready at check-in and our first stay in the Grandstand. Our room was 8201 which was a good room. Everything was spotless and I have no complaints. I love SSR more each time I visit. The resort is so quiet and peaceful.:goodvibes
I want to share an example of Disney Magic :) Without going into the details, my grandson had a sudden bout of a stomach virus while at EPCOT(in the restroom) and needed some replacement clothing. I called my husband on his cell phone to come to the restroom and make sure our grandson was okay. At that time, I was not aware he was sick but concerned he was in the restroom so long. An attendant noticed the situation, escorted me to the gift shop and helped me with the check out process. When it was time to pay, the lady stated I only owed $1.86. I explained that this was not possible because the shirt and pants were both $22.00 each. The attendant then stated that Disney was taking care of the charge. I could not believe the attendant was so kind. He then took the clothes to my husband and grandson who were still in the restroom. I neglected to get the employee's name because everything was so crazy at the time. I really regret I didn't get his name because he deserves some special recognition.
Anyway, other than that little mishap everything was perfect. The crowds were pretty heavy on Good Friday. The weather was great the entire week we were there.
I am now planning our next trip @ AKL and Vero Beach on July 4th.:yay:

Sounds like a great trip! How nice that the CM was able to help out a difficult situation :goodvibes

What a wonderful trip. It is nice to hear the good things that happen as well as the bad. Glad you had a good time. I am soooo excited we leave for OKW in 5 days. :goodvibes

WOW! That's the DISNEY I love. We had a situation where my mom purchased a pin at the MK at one of the shops on Main Street USA in the beginning of our trip. The last day of our trip she lost it and we searched the room, rental car, and retraced some steps in the park but couldn't find it. We went back to purchase another one and when the CM overheard my mom tell me that this was the one she had purchased earlier in the week and lost somewhere on her way from the room to the MK, the CM took it off the plastic card and pinned it on her sweater:confused3. The CM then looked at me and mom and said - I really don't know what your mom is talking about, the pin is right there on her sweater - she didn't loose anything:wizard:. And proceeded to thow out the plastic card and tell us to have a Magical day. I wish I could remember the CM name as she really made my day. While we certainly were willing to purchase another, her gesture really made an great impression.

Love hearing any story where someone goes the extra mile to help someone else out. Hopefully he was up and back in action quick. Nice that there are people who care out there!!!

Glad you had a great trip

wow, what an awesome story! thanks for sharing! While I've never had a "magic moment" like that happen to me personally at WDW, it's nice to know that they do happen for people out there.

I wanted to ask you a few questions about SSR.

1. Was this your first trip there?
2. Is it really as much walking as it seems? It seems like such a huge resort that you would have to walk at least 10-15 minutes to get anywhere.
3. How are the buses there?
4. How is the main areas/food courts/restaurants?

I think SSR would be a good home resort for me and my DH but I worry that it will be too big and the buses won't be so great along with the food there. I think the decor in the rooms, however, are in the top 2 or 3 of all the DVC resorts... at least it looks like it from the photos I've seen!

thanks! glad you had a great trip!

I am not the OP, but I'll give you my opinions. First, we are SSR owners, bought two years ago after a cruise to the Bahamas. We used our SSR points to stay at SSR every time. We do not think the walking is that bad, in fact I have posted many times that the walking at SSR is slightly longer then some of the resorts. (I can give examples if you want). Besides, unless your Brogan, you are walking every where in Disney. I have stayed Congress Park, Paddock and Grand Stand sections and have found them all not bad at all. Carousel section is the only one that I would not like or want to be in.

On our stays, we have found the bus service to be great. Much better then when we have stayed at the moderate resorts and in the Epcot Resorts.

As far as dining options, you have three choices - Artist Pallet (which i think is the best resort counter service), Turf Club (hit or miss table service) and DTD restuarants. Getting to DTD is very easy and not too unlike the Epcot resorts walking over to the World Showcase, except you don't need a park ticket.

The decor really is a personal choice, but we will agree with you that we like the SSR decor alot.

I will say that if you are going to buy DVC, buy where you want to stay. If your not sure of which resort you like best, take the time on your next trip and go visit the different resorts, take the tour at SSR.

thanks for all your replies! It may sound silly but the interior decor of the room is really important to me! I know most of the time is spent in the parks or maybe hanging by the pool in the resort or on the resort grounds.. but some of the other DVC photos I've seen...well, I just don't like the decor of the rooms! (I won't name names! LOL).. they look a bit worn and just.. off.

But I'm going to take the tour this December and hopefully will find the time to go to the resorts and take a look around.

SSR does sound pretty nice. I don't think the CS/TS food situation would be that bad for DH and I. We like pretty much anything and with the kitchen we would probably eat a light breakfast and eat elsewhere for lunch and dinner anyway. I do like being close to DTD as well.. just think of how easy it would be to get back to your room after a night out at PI or maybe seeing a concert at HOB. (DH and I are big concert go-ers).

thanks again!

also not OP here but I'll give my 2 cents:goodvibes
SSR was my 1st DVC trip....and I loved it.

I was in the Congress park section....5 min walk to main pool and food court.
10 min walk to DTD.
The least convenient area without a car is Carosel.....so as long as your not
there.....you'll be OK.....even there it is not so bad.
Resort is beautiful....and very peaceful....very nice helpful CM's.

I didn't have any problem with buses....lots of bad reports lately.....but this
is at ALL resorts.....till they work out the kinks in GPS system.

the decor of rooms is very nice and new:goodvibes
I think the food court was very good....they had the best potato chips and
flatbreads.....no french fries though....nice break actually.
The pool is awesome....great slide and zero entry.

The best was being able to walk to DTD and get any resort bus for dinner.

Once you buy DVC...you'll find you spend a lot more time in your room.....cause it is so nice.
I find I linger a lot longer drinking my coffee in the morning....
also my afternoon pool/room rest time keeps getting longer....

The parks now are a place to go to fill in the time between relaxing;)

In response to your questions:
1). No, this was not our first trip @ SSR and will not be our last. We really love it there and are proud DVC owners.
2). I do not think the walking is bad at all even though the resort is large.
3). Overall I think the bus service is good and have not had any issues.
4.) I agree with tomandrobin and think the Artist Palette is the best resort counter service - at least of the counter services I have tried.
I think the resort is nice and think you would really enjoy staying there.:)
