Just back from Polynesian LVC and GF- More Pics

How are the non-concierge LV rooms at the Poly? I am getting SO confused. Are there any King beds at Poly?

Do any of the GF Boca Chica LV rooms have a king bed? I really want a King with the 2 kids on the day bed/roll away.

Now that a LV has open at Poly, I am between 3 choices...

Poly LV
GF LV
WL Deluxe Room (sep seating area) but only Queen beds :(

All three are about the same $ for 5 nights.

Pros:
Poly-transportation, theme (more our style) and view
GF-monorail to mk, view if i can get it, chance of king bed
WL-extra room

Cons:
Poly-renovation or older rooms and no chance of king bed.
GF-is spotty reviews
WL-is of course no monorail.

HELP!

I can't imagine 2 kids sleeping on the daybeds at the Grand Floridian. They are small. Not twin size, more of a nice bench with a pad on it.

THANK YOU! They are small and good sound sleepers, but smaller than a twin is not good. This means my husband and I will have to each share a queen with a kiddo. I much prefer a king with a pull-out sofa bed! So many decisions to make. I know this is supposed to be fun, but planning is too stressful for me.

Kris, can you not put the kids in one of the queens, so you and hubbie have the other bed?

Here is a photo of the beds at the Grand Floridian. The daybeds at the Polynesian are larger if that helps.

Sadly hubby and I don't sleep well in a queen. We are not big people, we just take up a great deal of space. I like to sleep on my stomach like the chalk-out-line dead body tracings :) He knees me in the shins. I had bruises of unknown origin for about a year until I realized what they were from! We need a king or a small child that won't knee me. Plus a king keeps him far enough away from my arm slug when he starts snoring ;)

Thanks for the pictures. Maybe I will sleep on the day bed :)

That definitely made me smile. My wife and I have similar 'sleep aggression issues'.

At the Polynesian you could get a room with two queens and you or your husband could share a bed with a 'non-kicking' offspring, while the second child sleeps on the daybed. I'm sure this could be accomplished by some configuration at GF as well (two queens and rollaway?)

With very young children I would recommend even more strongly that you stay on the monorail ... you can roll strollers on and off, etc.

Good luck

alohaguy, thanks for the info on the new decor.

We check in on 10/12 so if the dates hold, I guess that means we'll have a brand new room! :cool1: :cool1:

See you there, lovesdumbo!

 Can't wait! I was a bit worried that my trip last week would lessen my desire to go in October but I am in fact even more excited to go home to the Poly.

I want to get this as close to perfect as I can.

It doesn't get much better than Poly LVC! We will be a party of 6-allowed with 1 under 3. This is our 3rd trip with this group. Next time DD will be over 3 so we'll have to leave our friend at home or pay for 2 rooms. The first time we rented a full size crib from an offsite company which fit perfectly in the room next to the amoire. BUT...DD(11 months at the time) wouldn't sleep in it so I was in a queen with 2 kids and didn't sleep well. Last year it was DD(21 months then and walking so got a lot more tired, well she had a stroller of course but at 11 months she wasn't walking yet and didn't get as much "floor" time as she did at home and I think she napped too much in her stroller during the day to sleep well at night but last year she slept great) and I in 1 queen, DH & DS in other queen, DFriend on the daybed, and DD(5 1/2) in a rental toddler bed. For our October trip I plan on mailing a ready bed (sleeping bag with built in air matress) for my 6 year old. They cost about $30 and I figure we can easily pick it up and get it out of the way during the day. Perhaps this would work for you. How old are your children?

Have you considered concierge? I think we work with our group in 1 room because we also have the lounge to relax in. We just LOVE the convenience of the lounge. It is so great to be able to pick up a snack, milk, juice, and soda just down the hall. And I also really like that I know exactly which longhouse we will be in.

I hate that I keep hearing the Oct 11th date for concierge to re-open. We actually arrive Oct 7th, but have a regular LV room for those first three nights, and then we have our concierge rooms booked starting on October 10th. I have heard from others who heard from concierge that is the reopen date. Hopefully this is one of those things that different CMs have different info, because noone has contacted us to move our ressie for the 10th.

Here's hoping we're in a new concierge room on October 10th!! :cool1:

edited to add, I guess we'll see you there, BCV and lovesdumbo! :)

If the Polynesian has not contacted you yet regarding Oct 10th, then I would feel pretty secure your concierge room will be available. Not every CM knows every detail of the rehabs - there is so much going on at that hotel, and schedules change so frequently, that it is impossible for many CM's to receive the correct info. I do know, though, based on multiple sources, that the contractor is firmly scheduled. Whether they finish on the 10th or 11th, who knows. For your sake, I hope it's the 10th. Good Luck

Think positive thoughts! :sunny: They may actually be planning to have it done by the 9th or 10th but just releasing the date of the 11th. And think about it....you'll probably be the first in a brand new room. That's neat!

:wizard: Pixie dust that you'll be in the room you want on the 10th!

One of the details I forgot to mention about the Concierge building rehab at the Polynesian was that the three desks in the reception area will be replaced by smaller ones. The CM I spoke to speculated that this might be in an effort to allow room for four desks during crowded months. This would cut-down on wait times when making ADR's etc. Don't know for sure ... just a thought from a CM. I think it might be a good idea, though.

Thanks for the great post, alohaguy! I am MOST happy to hear that they are starting over with Captain Cooks. I have never been so disgusted with an eating establishment in all my life. It was always dirty and had a certian smell to it, although I have no idea what it was and the "food" was hardly edible. My kids like to go there for the drink refills, but I always feel like I needed a shower after walking thru there! Can't wait to see it once it's done and to see the new menu!

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Alohaguy,

Great pics and review. I will be staying onsite at the Poly for the first time ever this December. After reading this I am really getting excited for my trip!! I feel like it is my first trip all over again with so much to look forward to. :cool1: I wasnt able to book LVC because we need two rooms (5 kids), and unfortunately we didnt plan for that in our budget because of the extra cost. The view looks fabulous though. I am really looking forward to watching Wishes from the beach. Thanks again for getting me even more excited for our trip!! :earsboy:

Kerry34 -

December is our favorite time of year at WDW. Enjoy your first on-site visit - you picked a great location and a great hotel.

Have Fun

I've seen several people have this reaction to Captain Cook's. I've never thought it was particularly dirty or disguisting, just not anything more than standard counter service - which is often not particularly appetizing. I've always been able to find something to snack on there, but we don't go more than once or twice per trip, and usually late at night. I like their chicken caesar salads for a quick bite.

It will, however, be nice to have a more updated and upscale menu. Something that bridges the gap between hamburger stand and table service. I think the upgrade will be a vast improvement, I just wish the arcade wasn't going to be anywhere near it.

Kerry, the view is just as fabulous from any of the beaches as it is from Hawaii. We truly find the Polynesian as magical staying in a gardenview room as staying lagoon view concierge. Plus you have the blessing of enjoying those beautiful garden views with 5 children. As alohaguy said, you've made a great choice!

From your mouth to the Imaginee'rs and management's ears!

I finally made a decision. I called today to move my GF LV ressie to Poly GVC and there are no more AAA discount rooms available  So, now i need to decide if it is worth giving up the AAA discount I already have at GF to switch.

Do AAA rate rooms ever come back open? Or should I not bother trying?
