Just returned from my 40th birthday trip at the poly. Had a lagoon view room booked and wanted tahiti. upon check in was told that tahiti was being refurbished in two days so we couldn't have that. Offered us tokelau corner room second floor. We were bummed. When we called the desk around a hour later my husband asked the women how the view was from that room. She said it wasn't very good she would change us to tuvula second floor. We got to the room and it was smack in front of the castle. We had a great view of the fireworks every night and the electric lights water parade. It was the best room ever. Everything was great about the resort and the trip. Would be glad to answer any questions.

Glad you enjoyed your trip! I don't have any questions, I'm just sitting here on a dreary, yucky January morning in Chicago wishing I was at the Poly with my family!!

I really miss the Poly today!!

We will be staying there in April for 2 nights. My mom and dad are coming with us and she was problems with her knees, so walking is hard - will have to use wheelchair in parks. What building should we request? We have never stayed there, so I don't know what to ask for. Thanks!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. It is such a special resort isn't it?

Interesting to hear about Tahiti. I wonder if the change in decor is starting in that longouse. Perhaps we'll soon read reports about that. Can't wait.

Did you happen to notice any construction going on near Captain Cook's or in the lobby?

you should request Rapa Nui. It's very wheelchair friendly. Never stayed there, so I can't give you firsthand experience. However, the building has it's own parking lot to make it easy for folks in wheelchairs. It's the closest to the TTC too!

look at the map on tikiman2001 website it gives a good indication of where all the rooms are situated. Our room in tuvalu was very convenient to the volcano pool, and the Great ceremonial house where you catch the monorail to the magic kingdom and the other resorts. However, there was no parking lot close by. Also, It was a little more of a walk to the ticket and transportation center monorail for epcot as it was one of the furtherest buildings from there. Also are you getting a garden or lagoon view? That will help with you decision. Either way you will love the resort. Have fun.

There was some construction hidden behind green barriers that wasn't very bothersome. Yeah I was surprised to hear about the refurbishment in Tahiti also as I hadn't heard anything previous about it starting so soon. Just as good. The 2nd floor Room in Tuvula was great anyway! This is now my favorite resort.

Also - forgot to mention how nice everyone was. Since it was a birthday trip for me, when I got back to our room the last night there was a basket of fruit and some decorated cookies and milk left for us from the hotel. Also an autographed picture of Goofy wishing me happy birthday.

I'm so glad to read another positive report about the Poly. I'll be going there in Dec and it must be at least 15 years since the last time I was there.

I'm surprised about the construction starting early on Tahiti. I think it was scheduled for April. I've requested Tahiti for my stay in Dec because of the location and because I think of it as "my" longhouse since that was where we stayed in the past.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. I think that the Poly is a wonderful resort.

Yes, we just came back from the Poly as well. I loved it too. The theming, the soft background music, the pool, access to transportation.

But darn, I forgotten all about the electrical water pagneant. Boo!

Did you happen to notice if there was still some work/painting being done on the outside of Tokelau? We were there early Dec. and they were busy doing cosmetic work on the pool side of the longhouse. My husb and I are returning soon...our first ever spontaneous trip! :)....and I'd love to be in Tokelau again.

Thank you for the update.

What a nice birthday surprise!

I can't be positive, we only stopped by tokelau when we first got there and thought we would be staying in that longhouse before we moved to tuvula, but I don't remember seeing any construction there. With any of the construction going on, you were not really bothered by it with any noise and it was hidden discreetly by green barriers.

Thanks!

I just checked with the Polynesian and no rehab is going on at Tahiti. Here is what someone incharge of the front desk email me.

"Currently, the Tahiti building is open. I'm not sure why a guest was told it was closed other than last week there was a scheduled power outage on one day and then the next day a scheduled water outage so some work could be done. We did not check guest's into the building on those days to reduce inconvenience. The guests that were already there were notified of the outages and times and offered room changes if they wanted. We only had a few guests in there as we had planned to keep the rooms unoccupied. Otherwise, the building is up and running."

Aloha

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the info. We were definitely told that they were doing rehab in two days so they couldn't place us in Tahiti. Maybe the front desk clerk meant because of the power and water outages they couldn't place us there but he did phrase it as closed for rehab. He wasn't the most friendly and outgoing person though he wasn't nasty or rude either.

However, whoever we talked to in the back room when we checked to see if our room was ready yet was super nice. She checked the location they were going to put us in in Tokelau and said the view wasn't very good for this room and she would move us to Tuvalu 2412 which we loved.

I loved this resort and can't wait to go back.

Did you pay for a lagoon view room? If so there are two rooms in Tokelau that are sold as lagoon view even thought they face sideways. I am glad they moved you to a true lagoon view room. I stayed in the first floor room just below that. I bet the person in the back was the same one who sent me the info. She is now in charge of the front desk crew and she was assigned there to improve the front desk staff. If anyone can she will.

I am glad to hear you had such a good stay. Thanks for the report. Any photos?

Aloha

Steve
