Just back from NYC Inaugural cruise: info inside! UPDATE:*pics on my web site added*

Thanks for posting! What type of food was served for the captain's gala menu? We have our palo reservations that night and I am thinking of switching it to a day that is less formal.

.

Captain's Gala has lobster and venison as the big meat entrees, so you don't wanna miss that night! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the report! :thumbsup2 In the middle of what has been a crazy weekend, this just gave me a break from reality so I can dream about 2 months from now. :cool1:

Marla, I replied in the other thread too....but for ppl only following this thread...

Tisa was the club host. We also had Brittany, Brad, Andy, Kat, Lara, Dj Jesse, and Frankie on board as cruise staff. Peter Hoffer was the cruise director.

Brittany is leaving the Magic after the current cruise that's out. She's due for her break/contract ending.

Thank you for the extremely helpful reports. I enjoyed reading them. Please feel free to add any more information that you can think of. Did you do any excursions at Nassau or CC.?? I would be interested to hear how that went. Thank you in advance. Also, in your opinion, would you say that the ship was overcrowded, in particular.... The pools.???

We did the Ardastra Gardens and City Tour. We liked it. It was fairly low-key, which is what we were looking for in an excursion. My favorite part was going in to the area with the colorful lori birds and hand-feeding them slices of apple. You'd hold up the piece of apple and the birds would fly to you and land on your hand or arm and eat the apple. They were gentle, didn't seem like any of the small kids were afraid. We also stopped at an historic fort, and for $1 fee you could go inside the fort. There were excellent views of the island and cruise ships from up there.

There were signs that said that the ship was full but it didnt feel that way to me. Keep in mind that we were a party of 4 adults so we only used the Adults Only pool. Someone with small kids will hopefully comment on the family pools.

We have this cabin on July 8th! I'd love to see any pictures if you have them! Does the curtain divider go the whole length or just halfway? DD will be sleeping on the sofa and we'll most likely stay up a bit later than her and will not want to disturb her. TY!

The bed is down on the right side of the cabin, and the curtain runs between the bed and the rest of the cabin. If your DD was sleeping on the sofa, you could close the curtain between the bed and sofa, but the TV is in the sofa area of the cabin. The bathroom is at the left side of the cabin, so the sofa is between the bed and the bathroom. I will post pictures once I get them onto my computer.

If you don't mind answering a more mundane question- which pier did you depart from in NYC?

I'm trying to decide if we could make the walk from our hotel to the port or break down and take a cab or something.

TIA....

Thank you so much for the awesome information. Planning Palo for Sunday- Day 2 at Sea and sounds like not so good timing we will miss Prince and Princess Dinner. Trying to change to Day 3-at Sea. Don't want kids to miss Formal Night

Looks like Palo is full most evenings at Sea. Again thanks for great information!

We were docked at Pier 88. Right next (or so it appeared) to the Intrepid.

That sounds like a good plan. :) Some people like to go to Palo on Formal Night and some people like to be in their main dining room for Formal Night. We like to go to Palo on a cruise casual night. :)

We were able to book Brunch, Dinner, and Afternoon Tea at Palo. At the beginning of our cruise we received written invitations in our Fish mail holder for each of the meals, as reminders.

We went to Brunch first, on the morning of our second sea day. We had a great server named Nikola from Serbia. We liked him so much that we asked if he would be working there on the night that we were coming back for dinner. He said that he was, and when we left he said "See you Tuesday night!" and when we checked in for dinner, there he was waiting for us. LOL

He also served us a few days later during Afternoon Tea.

Palo Brunch was awesome as usual and is now officially my favorite meal there. ::yes:: There was a great variety of foods, we weren't rushed, Nicola explained each of the tables, and the hot breakfast and hot lunch items. $20 per person, plus we tipped.

Dinner was good but I really like the more relaxed feel at brunch VS at dinner. I had the filet and it was very good. Not the best filet I've ever had, but still good. All of the food was tasty. The chocolate souffle' was as good as ever! :thumbsup2 $20 per person charge (and we tipped on top of that). We went to dinner on the night of our Castaway Cay night. This was a good choice, except for the fact that I chose 7pm Palo, not realizing that this would make us miss the presentation in the Walt Disney Theater that night all about Walt Disney. I would've liked to have seen that, but when I booked this, I had no idea what shows would be that night.

Afternoon tea was very nice. Only a few tables had people dining at them. I know that they never fill up the restaurant during tea, but this time it was fairy empty in there. I don't know if it's due to less people wanting to do tea, or if they are limiting how many tables they seat. There was a $10 per person charge, and we tipped too. We did the tea on the second to last day of our cruise, which was a sea day. This worked out well for us as it didn't interfere with anything else that we wanted to do that day.

On our last day we received a hand-written Thank You note from Nicola. That was a nice touch. :)

Just want to add that we returned to Pier 90, not 88. don't know if this will change each week. Obviously this week's cruise left from Pier 90..not sure which Pier it will come back to.

Pictures of the Menu at AP on Pirate night in Alaska this past August:

Maybe it will give you all an idea :) I hope you can read it!!;)

Added:Before, when we have dined in Parrot Cay on Pirate night, we got menus that were rolled up like a scroll/treasure map. I will have to look to see if the foods are the same. Since it wasn't a "full" pirate night (no fireworks) I am not sure if the menu was the same or different!

Thank you for all the information everyone has been posting!! I know you missed out on the Walt Show, SeaSpray, but if someone did watch it, could they elaborate a little on it? I know I saw somewhere that there were old film clips and such, but was the whole thing a movie/film? TIA!

On the PC day, Did they have the activities all day or just after a certain time?

They showed movies on the big screen out by the family pool all day long, such as A Bug's Life, Hatching Pete, Mulan, Cars, Lady & The Tramp, etc.

At 5pm they had characters in the lobby such as Mickey & Minnie; then Lilo & Stitch at 5:15; Goofy & Max at 5:30pm; Chip & Dale at 5:45pm. They had characters in the lobby twice more that evening at around 8pm and again at 9:30pm.

Vibe and The Edge both opened at 12 noon that day.

Oceaneer Lab was open all day from 8:30am until past midnight.
Edited to add: I see that the Lab was open from 6:30am, they started with a "morning movie".

Oceaneer Club opened at 5pm and was open until midnight.

By 7pm there were activities for all ages going on.

I saw it. It was movie and old clips interspersed with songs/dancing from the theater cast- songs from his movies, songs from attractions and the theme parks, etc. It was not all a movie. With narration from the theater cast, it went thru walt's life adn acheivements and legacy in clips, song and dance

Awesome info - Thanks for sharing it all!!!

I read somewhere here on another thread that the Magic's horns were upgraded, and it was playing all the tunes that the Dream class ships play, including New York New York... Can you confirm this for me please?

Thanks!!
