just back from MUSIC and RIVERSIDE see both reviews

4 nites a ASM. we are 49 and 44 with a 9 year old and our oldest are 20 and 22, they did not go. for us this resort would have been better if we had went when our oldest was 9 and we were younger and more in tune with the others who were staying here. they were 20s and 30s with little ones mostly. did have a couple of problems and before those cards and letters start rolling in, this disclaimer. i am going to relate these events EXACTLY the way they happened there is no racial slur intended. i stopped at the singing spirits pool bar for a beer one afternoon and a british family, husband, wife, daughter and son in law, sat down near me. near them was a black man who had had way to much to drink he started bothering them with statements like "this place is BO BO man only f---ing po people stay here, if people here had any money they would be at the beach club" and "the only f---ing reason im here is i dont have a job and its all i can afford. these comments went on for more than twenty minutes and the bartender did nothing. those people from england are going home and telling their friends about us drunken loudmouthed vulgar americans. i would probably not even tell you this exept for what happened two nites later. we got our supper at the food court and took it outside to eat it. the tables outside are near, you guessed it, the pool bar. there were 3 black ladies there and one of them was in charge of 3 very handicapped adult men, so much so that all they could do is sit in their wheel chairs and wave their arms at everyone who walked by and say things that could not be understood. the one or ones in charge parked them facing away from the bar in the walkway behind it. the 3 ladies were getting drunk and ignoring their charges. what were they doing there, these men deserve outings but i hardly believe that is what the state of Florida has in mind?? th ladies were yelling for the bar manager and complaining that the music was not loud enough and cussing and swearing that they could not get "off" so maybe they should switch to something stronger. my DD was frightened and wanted to take our food back to the room. again no one did anything and believe me a lot of people were offended about both incidents. the cast members in the food court were not very good either, they rang up the wrong stuff or rang up to much etc etc. cant give this place a good rating would not stay there again. 6 nites at RIVERSIDE. BRAVO RIVERSIDE!!!!!!!!!!! i cant say enough nice things about this resort, cast members well trained and attentive, service very good, rooms nice, ol man island is nice but it does need the impending rehab. it has the feel of a deluxe for a moderate price. and if you do anything while you are there you must eat breakfast at BOATWRIGHTS everything from the signature omelet to the deep fried cinnamon french toast is just wonderful. be glad to answer any questions.

I did not have the same experiences that you endured, but after visiting AS for several hours, my husband won't even consider staying there. The people were obnoxious, the food court was standard at best and the rooms were too small with little to no amenities. If we can't afford a moderate or deluxe onsite, we stay offsite.

Did you complain to a CM or management about the cursing? And really, that's all these people were doing wrong...cursing. The reason I'm asking if you complained to management, is that I'm sure it's a touchy situation for CM's to have to confront a resort guest in these situations....and if no one actually complained about the cursing, they might not have known those folks were disturbing people.

sorry jennymouse but drunk and disorderly is a better definition and there were 2 bartenders and a manager right there and they all just rolled their eyes and kept pouring the drinks

so sorry about your experience. We are in our early 30's with no kids and have never experienced this as AS or anywhere in Disney. As a matter of fact we had commented on well things are kept in check at PI even with all the drinking going on there. The bartenders there should know when to cut someone off. It is a shame people do not have manners anymore. Hope you have better experiences in the future.

Sorry, just going by your origional description and you said it was EXACTLY what happened. All I read that they were doing wrong is cursing. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have liked listening to it either, I'm just trying to understand what happened.

So, I guess the answer to my question is no, you didn't complain?

no i didnt, my dw and dd told me not to make a stink. what i left out is that the first guy was not sitting on a stool saying his thing he was up in the british peoples faces doing it and staggering around and the tone was that they must be poor people or they would have sought out better accomodations and he also tried to shock everyone with things like "my brother is married to a white chick, what do you think of that?" when i said EXACTLY i was trying to put across the reason why i was saying black people was just because they happened to be not because i had a thing for them

I feel so sorry for what happened to you. I also encountered some very "un-Disney-like" language when I stayed at ASMusic. And I chose to stay there when I was displaced when Riverside closed down last year. All I kept thinking was "I miss Riverside..I miss Riverside!" (Actually I really thought "I miss Dixie Landings"). That's probably why ASMovies looked so much more appealing-I can deal with rambunctious little kids running around, but obnoxious cursing...Why do they go to Disney?

Yes, I think I'm getting the picture now. I believe I would've walked up to that manager and quietly, without making a big deal, and whispered in his ear something like "Are you going to do anything about this guy or am I going to have to call the police?"

I'm sure Disney doesn't like the police coming to thier resorts on drunk & disorderly calls.

WOW - It seems like standards have dropped at ASMO. We enjoyed the reort so much this year we were thinking of going back in May, to end our stay after POR nights. I must admit that I thought the resort was very clean, bright and fun. However I do not want to mix with rude people on my holidays, so because of this I am now having second thoughts about ASMO. I want to reassure you all that I am from the UK and do not think anything bad of USA citizens just because of 1 or 2 incidents. I think Americans are the most wonderful , friendly and nicest people I have ever met.

Your chief complaint seems to be with people of color since the 2 events that you related to us occurred with people of color. You indicate that there were other annoyances, however, those were not listed in as great detail. I agree with the other posters that the color of the individuals was not necessary to your story.

I also agree that you should have approached management about what happened. If you had complained I am sure that someone would have intervened.

That does sound like a bad expierence for your family. However, what on earth does race have to do with it? The story could have been told without race, and it wouldn't not change anything for me. Drunk and disorderly is just that - it has nothing to do with black or white. If it was a white man that was drunk and saying he "dates black chicks", would that bother you too? If so, then there was no need to mention color in you story. JMHO

Why is everyone always so quick to cry "racist"? dalt01 also mentioned that the other family was British - does that mean he has something against them, too? Did no one read his disclaimer? I think he was just giving details of what happened, plain and simple. Simply mentioning that someone was black does NOT make one a racist! Geez, people, lighten up!

There are obnoxious people everywhere, black and white, British and American, Christian and Jewish - the point is, none of us wants them in our face, especially when we're at the "happiest place on Earth". I think dalt01's complaint was a valid one.

That was stated right in the very first post! Did you (Ripley & Tigerlilly's mom) skip over this one? Dalt was just giving the facts. It just so happened to be a coincidence... I think.

I, personally, did not skip over anything. I'm just stating that there was no reason for race to be mentioned at all in this story - it has no value whatsoever. If the same exact thing happened to me and I was relating the story, it wouldn't occur to me to mention what someone's skin color was. I wasn't bashing anyone either, to each his own......

There may have been no reason to mention race in the original story, but there was also no reason to point that out in other posts. That shows that some people are extra-sensitive to it or just don't have anything better to do than nitpick.

Well, I read her post and it sounded like it was drunk and disordlery and not just cursing. I would have went to the manager at the front desk or something. I don't care what color someone is. If they are acting drunk, obnoxious, and disorderly around my kids then they are not going to be running their mouths much longer! What a shame you had to go through that. I'm just glad I don't stay at the All Stars.

It is the OP's post and she should relate the story how she wants. I really do not think anyone here should be telling her what she should and should not say in her post. It sounded like a few black people were acting obnoxious and rude. Like it or not, some black people can be obnoxious. Just like white people., and american indians, and mexicans, and so on and so on.......... I'm so sick of all this PC crap! And this coming from a Democrat!

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at ASMo. In the three times we have stayed at the All Stars, most recently 10 days last August at ASMo, I have never seen this type of behavior. If I had I would have either walked away or if it bothered me that much I would have informed management.
