Hi everybody....just back from 9 days at the Hotel Royal Plaza. My family also went to the Dixie Stampede Dinner Show. Hubby did the Richard Petty driving experience. If anybody has any questions...feel free to ask. Weather was beautiful but we came home to 40 and cloudy and rain.

Let me know if anybody has any questions.

We are staying at the Royal Plaza in DEc. ANy area of the hotel we should request our rooms in? What type of transportation did you take to and from the hotel? Any DIS tips would be great!

I would love to hear what you thought about Dixie Stampede. Did you go early to see the horses before hand? Overall, did you feel the cost was worth it?

When we ck'd in to our hotel, we had booked the cheapest room possible. When we arrived at HRP, the lady at the desk asked if we wanted to upgrade to a tower room for $20 more a night. I asked her if we could upgrade for any cheaper and after walking into another room and coming back out, she said that they could upgrade us to a tower room for $10 a night, so we took them up on that offer. We were on the 12th floor overlooking the swimming pool. The view was fine, but I have heard that a view of Pleasure Island is nice. I have no complaints about the room or the service we rec'd while there.
Getting to and from the airport....we used the car service called ********.com. Our driver was Thom and he was wonderful. Very friendly, his driving didn't scare me, plus he was even about 15 minutes early picking us up to go back to the airport. If you go to www.********.com you can print out a coupon for $5 off your total bill. I would definately book with him again. I would not take the Mears transportation due to the fact that you are not the only family they are transporting at one time, and the price for ******** was the same as Mears.
Shuttle buses at the hotel were kind of a pain. It wastes about 2 hours of your day waiting for the bus, going to the parks, etc. After getting on the bus, if we were lucky to get a seat, we would stop at 3 or 4 hotels after us. Bus drivers were friendly, but after staying at the poly on my honeymoon, we are spoiled by the monorail being right outside your door. My hubby and I decided that next time we go back, we are booking at the poly. This trip, our room was $79 a night, with the fourth night free. Money wise, it was a great deal. The fact is, when it's hot, your tired, you're traveling with a 6 year old, it is very nice to leave a park and be back to your hotel within minutes. Every time we left a park, it was 45 minutes to 1 hour before we got back to our hotel.
By the way, we booked our room through Mousesavers. It took about 7 minutes to walk to downtown disney.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!!

Dixie Stamped was a lot of fun. Of course, we cheered for the North and we won. We went early enough to see the pre show and all the horses were in stalls right outside the building. Being that we live in an area where Amish drive their horse and buggys past our house weekly, it was not a big deal for us to see the horses pre show. If you are from a city, I am sure it would be quite a thrill to see them. The dinner was a lot of fun and we did not walk away hungry. I would rec this show for anybody. My 6 year old son really enjoyed it and got right into all the cheering and screaming that goes along with the fun and games. Food was excellent and no matter where you are seated, you have a great view of everything.
We took a taxi from our hotel and I do not rec that. The driver never came back for us until we called a half hour after he was to show up for us. My husband and I both think that we could smell alcohol when we got into the taxi, and the driver put some kind of rap music on with very bad swear words in it......some words that I hope my 6 year old son didn't pick up on. Some people will think that maybe I should have spoke up to him, but he looked like he would have killed me if I opened my mouth. I was just very thankful when I got back to my hotel that I threw open the door and grabbed my son running into the hotel. Needless to say, no tip for him!!!

Glad to hear another good review for the Dixie Stampede:jester:
