We just returned from our latest Disney trip and our stay at the Hotel Royal Plaza. We were very pleased with the hotel and the rate we obtained from TravelZoo. ($69 a nite in a tower room with the $7 resort fee waived and the 4th nite free). We were somewhat apprehensive about staying here but our worries were completely relieved. We stayed on the 14th floor with a Downtown Disney view. We were able to view the fireworks at Epcot from our balcony which was great. The room was nicely sized with a small sitting area near the balcony. The bathroom was absolutely great with separate tub (jacuzzi) and shower. From the small window in the bathroom you could see the Space Mtn. in the distance at MK. We will definitely consider staying here again on our next Disney trip especially if we could get the same deal again.

Thanks for the review!

Im considering booking this for me and my two children 4 & 6, but I read somewhere that even though there are buses you still have to walk alot. Can you verify please?
Also if renting a car, how far is the drive to say MK, is it an easy drive? I'm asking because I've never driven in Fl (or on highways) coming from a small caribbean island.

Thanks so much!!

Thanks Doubled07!

Daisey,

I can't help you much on the Downtown Disney bus system because we had a rental car and drove to all the parks. I did see the DD buses frequently pulling up to the hotel though. Insofar as the drive to MK from the Plaza, well I drove to all 4 of the parks with no problems whatsover as there are signs throughout Disney giving you directions. I had never driven inside Disney either before this past trip. It's about a 6 mile trip to MK from the Royal Plaza and takes maybe a 15 or 20 minutes. You have to take a tram from the MK parking lot to the TC then take the Monorail or Ferry Boat to the Park. Hope you enjoy the Royal Plaza as much as we did.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay there! I stayed there a few months ago and just loved it and I'll be checking in again today for a week long stay. :)

Daisy64, I never had any problems with the buses from HRP, I had my own car but never felt the need to use it. The buses ran every 30 minutes and HRP is I think the 3rd stop for the DTD bus so I never had a problem finding a seat either. You will hear vastly different stories about the bus system at DTD but the only time I had any complaints was when I stayed at the Grosvenor, it's one of the last stops so if the bus was full before it got there it just went on to the parks so you'd have to wait for the next one. You shouldn't have that problem at HRP.

The DTD buses do drop you off in the parking lots of the parks but it's within short walking distance of the front entrance, you wouldn't need to take a tram like if you drove there yourself. The only exception is the MK, you will still need to take the fairy or monorail over but you would have to do that if you drove too.

It's just a matter of what is your idea of convenient. To me, not having to pay for parking over the course of a 5 day trip is a good thing, if you have a regular AP that may not be an issue to you since you have free parking. I don't want to spend extra money on gas that's way too expensive up there, again, may not be an issue to some people. I'm on vacation, I would rather let someone else do the driving. So you just have to think about what matters most to you and make your decision based on that. I have waited for some of the buses for the on-site resorts longer than I have ever waited for one of the DTD buses so you just can't ever tell.

I hope you have a great trip whatever you decide. :)
