Had a great almost 2 weeks.

Hilights were Chef Gordon's private affair ( best meal of the vacation) , scoring a par 4 on the 18th Harbour Town ( we won't worry about the rest of the round LOL) and a dolphin cruise. All the staff were great. Oh and not related to Disney but getting an upgrade to 1st class on USAirways on the way back to England :D:D:D

Lowlight was getting the phone bill. Local call one minute charged at $3.50, international calls to the UK charged at $20 for one minute call ( when you have three calls of one minute $67 is NO JOKE) . I can't believe that Disney can't get a better deal for it's members than that from AT+T, IMHo those prices are bordering on extortion !!!!!!

I'll do a full trip report over the next few days and post a link on the DVC boards

Glad to hear about your highlights!

As for the lowlight, you might want to try phonecards when you come to the US. You can get them at lots of stores and the rates can be very good. For what you spent on calls, I'd bet you could have talked to England for over 100 minutes on a phone card. We always bring one on vacation so we can keep up with things at home.

Chef Gordon remembered you - we mentioned that we found out about the "private affair" on the internet, and he mentioned that another guest said the same thing last week - we figured it had to be you, because he remembered your name.

Hate to tell you this about the phone call, but Disney probably does have a good rate with AT&T on the phone calls. You can typically expect a 50% to 100% upcharge on direct dialed long distance calls billed to your hotel room (sometimes even higher). I think this is a terrible practice, but it's not regulated, so everyone charges whatever they think they can get away with - what I don't like though is that DVC shouldn't be raking members over the coals like this. The best suggestion is to use a phone card (800 number), or even a pay phone - don't do direct dialing long distance from your room.

Welcome back Vernon! We were at Hilton Head during the same time (December 19-24). Sorry our paths did not cross. Next time I'll be sure to wear a lime green ribbon. Also, next time I'm going to schedule the Private Affair, everyone makes it sound wonderful! Perhaps our paths might cross at Hilton Head in the future!

We'll be at HH in May. Can you tell me about this "private affair"? I'm really not up on the HH experiences. Sorry if this is common knowledge

If you follow this link it will take you to Doc's great explaination. This is where I first saw the program so a big thanks to Doc for putting me on to it.

The Grand Villa isn't in inventory at the moment and is used for promotions and a number of things organised by Chef Gordon. You can pick from his "menu" or if you have some ideas he's more than happy to talk over things to see what you'd like.

Hope you have as good an evening as we did :D
