Just back from CR - NGW

We just returned yesterday from our NGW CR room through SOG. It was excellent to stay at the CR on the SOG price. What a deal! That said, I do have to tell you that I was kind of disappointed in the CR. The rooms were plenty big, but it just didn't seem very deluxe to me. The place certainly needs to be upgraded (carpet in the hallways very dirty, tile in the bathroom dirty looking, bathtub was very grungy, very small elevators.)

We requested a quiet room. We got a room (3rd floor) next to a mechanical room which kept the noise down on the headboard side of the bed, so that was nice. We have two little ones (4 and 2) and wanted to make sure they would sleep well. Of course, my 2-y-o DS passed out on the way out of the MK one night (with thousands of people swarming around him), so noise sure didn't bother him!

We were in a corner room that looked onto the playground (8301) and were quite a ways from an elevator. Keep the elevator locations in mind when requesting a room.

We rented a fridge and requested bed rails.

I much prefer the food courts of the moderates to the fast food joints at the CR and the Poly. The selection is no comparison.

Our kids were really too young for the arcade but it looked awesome. It was nice to be so close to Chef Mickey's.

Overall, I have to say I was not impressed with the CR-NGW (sorry to the CR fans). I would never pay full price to stay there (the tower may be different), but was glad we were there since I would love to stay at every Disney resort someday. For monorail convenience I would definitely go with the Poly (we stayed there a couple years ago on SOG overflow.) I thought it was much nicer. We did a lot of walking at both places, but the walking at the CR was in the hallways and on bare cement. The walks at the Poly wound through trees and plants. Much nicer atmosphere.

If anyone has any questions, fire away.

Just when I was starting to look forward to CR......;) I hope it wasn't too bad. I would never choose this resort either, but couldn't pass up the SoG price. This has helped me decide to split my stay for sure.

Just saw your other post! Thanks.

The Tower at the CR is very different from the garden rooms. I like the Poly better but I would stay at he Tower again.

I never stay in the garden wings only in the tower. Perhaps that makes the difference. I love the Contemporary. :smooth:

It is amazing how different folks can go to the same place and have a completely different experience.

We stayed on the second floor of the NGW last week and would gladly do so again. We have scheduled our next trip so we take advantage of the SoG rates at the CR one more time.

Our room overlooked the lake and beach area. We were able to watch the fireworks nearly every night—even when they woke us up at 12:35 a.m.! We could easily see the spires of Space Mountain. We loved the easy walk to MK.

Our room was spotless. The bathroom was very clean – no grunge anywhere and I looked! We even spent some time studying the carpets in our hallway because of the crazy patterns and they were pretty clean.

The food court was okay. Not as big of a selection as ASMo, but we only really snacked there anyhow. We ate breakfast in our room and ate most of our meals in the parks.

The kids loved the pools and thought it was the coolest thing in the whole universe to have the monorail come right into “their” resort.

Just a different point of view, of course. Your mileage may vary.

Wow - sorry to hear about the dirty room you received. We've never had a room at the Contemporary that wasn't spotless (from our vast experience of 2 times).

We didn't have a problem with the elevator because we were on the first floor each time.

I do have to agree with you about the food courts. In my opinion, the values and the moderates have the best food courts.

Anyway, sounds like you had a good trip anyway. I also don't pay full price when I go (at the very least I get Disney Club discount).

Do you know what specific areas or floors Sog uses in the NGW? I was told before that they did not have the entire NGW.

I didn't mean to sound too negative. After all, we were on vacation and at Disney World!! I'm not sure if I would split my stay just because of the hassel factor. Maybe you should just go with what other people said about where their rooms were located. That would help a lot not to have the elevator hassel. We had two strollers and so had to use the elevator every time.

The main thing about our tub was that the drain control had tons of mold around it. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years.

I'm not sure if SOG has all of the NGW. I did see lots of military folks walking the hallways though!

I'm still very glad we got to stay there. The price could not be beat, but I do think the tower area would have been much better.

I read they have 40 rooms on the first floor and all the second and third floors. Will find out TOMORROW!!!
