Just a few observations and comments:

CR--the view, as always, was gorgeous
--Not thrilled with the new decor--too much for the business travelers not
vacation-y or Disnified (is that a word? :confused3 ) enough. I miss the gaudy blues and reds. I know that this is a convention hotel BUT it is a Disney hotel and is closest to Magic Kingdom, too.
--no counter space in bathroom. Someone else on these boards has mentioned this and I agree completely. There is only a THIN strip of counter between the two huge sinks. . . that's it.
--my DKS loved the gameroom at CR.
--big rooms :woohoo:
--no wait at front desk
--mousekeeping was iffy--kept leaving 3 towels for a family of 4; didn't leave shampoo or conditioner and I had to leave a note; no liner for the ice bucket upon arrival. . . requested one and the front desk said that they would send one up right away. . . got it the next day when the mousekeeper cleaned the room.
--Internet is still free. . .probably; I read the paper in my room about it, but to make sure, I asked concierge at the front desk. The lady there said, "No, it is $9.95 per day." The lady working next to her overheard and told her that it WAS free while they were trying out a new system. :confused3

AKL
--this place has great activities for kids around the resort. . .save one day just to explore/participate in resort activities.
--believe me, there is construction and construction noise. We were Arusha Savanna, 4th floor, and every day from 9:00 to 5:30 we heard drilling and pounding. Finally, we asked a security guard (they were ALL over the resort because of the construction, they said. There were 3 stationed all day just between our room and the lobby) Apparently, in the room right next to ours, several workmen were going through the ceiling of 4th floor room to access wiring, plumbing, etc.of the room on the 5th floor. Why they put us next to a room being gutted is beyond me! We weren't in the rooms all day, but we did sleep in some days and did come back for naps. We asked their work schedule and they told us that they worked until 5:30.
--Not as many animals in the savanna as I expected. I don't know if I just expected to see herds of migrating animals parading past my balcony or what? :rotfl:
--Kids loved the bunk beds.
--Halls and bathroom are dark, but it adds to the theme.
--Beautiful theming and architecture.
--Very lush landscaping around pool and spas
--pool was not TOO crowded.
--good placements of Simba's Clubhouse, laundry, pool, quick serve food, and gameroom-all in one general area.

Overall, the parks were more crowded than any previous June, but the lines weren't too bad if you used Fastpass judiciously. Only rained once, though, in almost two weeks.
Forget eating table service if you have no ADRs.
Star Wars Weekends were a lot of fun.

While your right the Contemporary is a convention Resort you got to remember Coronado Springs hosts just as many conventions as the Contemporary, so why not make those same statements about that Resort?

Mousekeeping can be great or offy at any of the Resorts, so it's just luck of the draw on what type of you get.

I think the $9.95 cost for the internet is the price of how much it costs when you bring your own laptop to WDW, so I think that is what the 1st Cast Member was referring to.

While we were there the internet was free whether you brought your own laptop or used their computer. I simply plugged the ethernet cable into my laptop and turned the kids loose on Disneychannel.com. :)

Boy I can't help but wonder sometimes if you secretly own the CR. You defend it so much. I understand your love of the CR, it's my favorite resort as well, but why do you always seem to take such offense when someone says anything even a little negative about the resort?

I don't think I said anything wrong. The way I see it is my 1st comment has some true facts. In other threads people sometimes make the comment about all the conventions they host, however why does no one ever make the same comment about all the conventions Coronado Springs hosts, when they host just as many conventions as the Contemporary does.

First, because I've never stayed at Coronado Springs so I don't KNOW what it looks like. . . whether it has a "Disney" feel or not, but I have stayed several times at the Contemporary before the remodel and know how it looked/felt before.

Re: Mousekeeping--that is true, but at a moderate I would pay $180-$200 and at a value I would pay $99 to $150. Since I'm paying $400 per night for a deluxe room at the Contemporary, I did expect exemplary service (as I've had there in the past) and not "the luck of the draw." (No, I'm not saying that if you pay less per night that you deserve a dirty room. I've had wonderful service at CBR and POR.)

The $9.95 for the laptop is if you borrow their connection cable that is in the closet and "forget" to put it back. The Internet is free, the other CM said, because they are field-testing the electronic concierge system at the Contemporary. Internet still costs at the other resorts because the CM previously worked at the Beach Club, and she said that it is $9.95 there for any connection to the Internet.

Don't get me wrong. Contemporary has always been, if not my favorite resort, then certainly one of the top two. I just have high expectations for it since CR has met or exceeded my expectations in the past.

I just tried to give an objective report of my stay at these two resorts
which I succeeded in doing since you think that I may have been too hard on one of my favorite resorts.

On another note, glad to hear the AKL is noisy. One of the reasons we chose the WL over AKL was due to the construction, so it helps to know it is a problem.

LSUDis, I tend to agree about the renovated CR. We were die hard CR people, as you can see by our signature, but since the renovation it just feels different to us now. DDs and I were looking at old room photos from prior trips the other day and we all could pick out the CR room due to the decor. The new decor photos just kinda blend in with all of our other upscale hotel photos. It used to be if you asked for something there, you had it, no questions asked, almostas soon as you put the phone down. This trip I had to ask FOUR times (each morning with a note) for a laundry bag for wet swimsuits and a fresh liner for my ice bucket. We normally use our own soaps and shampoos but decided to give the hotel stuff a try this time since it was new. I had to ask for more our first morning since we had four people in our room. The maid left us one more shampoo, and another bar of soap, even though she could tell by looking that we were using the gel stuff. I mean what was I planning to do, bring it home and sell it on eBay? ;) We also almost ran out of toilet paper . Years ago, when you went into a hotel room there was a fresh roll on the holder, well, at the CR those days are gone. We checked in with a full roll on the other side and less than 1/3 on the other, although it was folded into a pretty little point ;). Well, again with four people and small rolls, it doesn't go far.

LSUDis,

Thanks for your honest comments and observations about the CR and AKL. Most people appreciate it.

Hmmm, I'm staying in AKL in October and everyone else said noise was not a problem so this worries me. Did you asked to be moved or receive any type of discount?

Thanks for the reviews. I appreciate your honesty. Now I dont feel so bad abandoning my beloved AKL this year for WL. I was very worried about daytime noise and nap time.

Prehaps Coronado Springs does a better job than the CR making their vacation travelers feel like they are on vacation despite the fact that they also host conventions? I've never stayed at either hotel, but that is the feeling I've gotten from the majority of the posts I've read on these boards.

Seeing people with lanyard badges from various conventions walking around the 4th floor does not mean the Contemporary does a bad job of hiding the fact they host conventions. A lot of those times those people are with their families, the only difference is they are dressed nicely for their work.

The other times during the day they are in the convention center and unless a non convention guest had a reason to be there, they would not even notice them.

It didn't sound like the OP was saying "burn down that sorry excuse for a hotel." It just sounded like they noticed a few things that could have been better during their stay. (To me anyway." :) . I appreciate the OP's honest opinion.
